HOW TO FIT THE HANDLEBAR STEM The following operations should be performed prior to fitting the stem onto the frame: REMOVING THE BOLTS Carefully remove the bolts and apply grease to them. CLEANING (FOR METAL STEMS ONLY) Using medium-fine grain Emery cloth, remove any burrs or sharp edges from the stems clamping surfaces: on a quill stem, lightly sand the quill section below the minimum insertion mark, and the inner surface of the handlebar clamp. On a threadless stem, lightly sand the inside of the steerer clamp and handlebar clamp, making sure to remove any burrs or sharp edges. CAREFULLY REFIT THE SCREWS. POSITION THE STEM Carefully position the stem in line with the front wheel. POSITION THE STEM A quill stem must be inserted into the steerer tube so that the STOP line is not visible. Quill stems are fitted with M8 conicalhead aluminium expander bolts (tightening torque 10 N/m) and special conical adjusting washer. If it is desired to use a steel expander bolt in place of the aluminium bolt, it is absolutely essential to also remove the conical washer.

BOLTS Tighten the bolts only with the use of a torque wrench, observing the following torques: Fork fastening Quill stems (i.e. with expander bolt in fork steerer tube) M8: tightening torque 10 N/m

Threadless stems (i.e. clamp on the exterior of the fork steerer tube) with M6 steel bolts: tightening torque 10 N/m. M5 steel bolts: tightening torque 8 N/m. M5 titanium bolts: tightening torque 8 N/m.

FITTING THREADLESS STEMS (FIRST ASSEMBLY)

25,4 (1)

CHECK THE DIAMETER OF THE STEERER TUBE If the steerer tube outside diameter is 25.4 you must use the reduction bushing supplied, taking care to position the bushing with the notch at the slot of the stem steerer clamp. EXPANDER FOR STEEL OR ALUMINIUM STEERERS Insert the special steel spider, suitable for aluminium and steel sleeves, inside the fork steerer tube. Follow the headset manufacturers instructions for positioning and steerer length. FOR CARBON STEERERS use the special DedaElementi Spadca aluminium expander. Follow the headset manufacturers instructions for positioning and steerer length. IMPORTANT! The inside of the steerer tube and the Spadca must be clean but not greased and their mating surfaces may have to be roughed up with sandpaper in order to obtain good locking.

Carbon

After having aligned the stem, fit the top cap using the special M6 bolt (tightening torque 10 N/m in order to compress the entire steering system), which will be bolted into the expander previously inserted into the sleeve. PLEASE NOTE With regard to threadless stems: it is necessary to cut the steerer to size, remembering to leave 2 mm under the upper limit of the stem clamp, so as to allow fitting of the top cap.

ON THE OLD FORK STEM If the threadless stem is to replace a quill stem the threadless stem MUST BE FITTED WITH A SPECIAL ADAPTER AND SPACERS. The Deda-Elementi Spada adapter allows a threadless stem to be fitted onto a fork with a threaded headset system with an internal sleeve diameter of 22.2 mm. The Spada quill and expander is inserted inside the fork steerer and fixed using the M8 steel bolt with a fixing torque of 10 Nm. The minimum insertion mark on the Spada must not be visible above the headset

FITTING THREADLESS STEMS ON FORKS WITH THREADED HEADSETS

The bolts MUST BE tightened in cross sequence: Tighten the bolts in sequence (1-2-3-4) initially to a tightening torque of 5 Nm, then tighten the bolts in sequence (1-2-3-4) to a tightening torque of 8 Nm. Distance A MUST BE precisely equal to distance B. DO NOT EXCEED THE MAXIMUM TIGHTENING TORQUE.

HOW TO FIT THE HANDLEBAR

MATCHING THE DIAMETERS Only fit DedaElementi stems with DedaElementi handlebars. Ensure that the diameters of the stems handlebar clamp and the central section of the handlebar match perfectly. (DEDA DIAMETERS 26-31.7). CLEANING Ensure that all points of contact are scrupulously clean, smooth and free from burrs and sharp edges. POSITIONING THE HANDLEBARS Gently insert the handlebars into the stems handlebar clamp. TIGHTENING WITH SEVERAL SCREWS With multiple bolt handlebar clamps it is essential to proceed progressively, taking care to leave equal gaps, tightening the bolts in cross sequence. FIXING TO THE HANDLEBARS Tighten the bolts only with the use of a torque wrench, observing the following torques: STEMS WITH 2 M6 BOLTS: TIGHTENING TORQUE 10 N/m STEMS WITH 4 M5 BOLTS: TIGHTENING TORQUE 8 N/m It is recommended to blow through all threaded holes with compressed air prior to greasing and replacing the bolts. It is essential that the threaded areas and the clamping surfaces on stems that are to be painted be protected from paint. After painting, or any other surface treatment, it is essential that all threading be re-tapped. If the tightening torques are exceeded there is a risk of stripping the threads, breaking the bolts or damaging the handlebars; even if the damage is not visible, the stress resistance is weakened and the original safety of the components compromised.

PLEASE NOTE!

Do not modify, mark or drill the handlebar stem or the handlebars. Bent or damaged handlebars should not be straightened: the strength characteristics would be further compromised. It is essential they be replaced as soon as possible. Do not load the handlebars with excessive weight: the maximum approved weight is only the resting weight of the cyclist. Use a torque wrench for fitting control levers or grips, making sure not to exceed the manufacturers recommended tightening torque

SEAT POST

How to fit the seat post Carefully remove the bolts and apply grease to them. Ensure that the outside diameter of the seat post matches the internal diameter of the seat tube. The maximum permissible tolerance between the tube and the sleeve is 0.05-0.15 mm. Carbon seat posts and the corresponding seat tubes must never be greased. Light greasing is only recommended for metal seat tubes and seat posts. Observe the tightening torque of the seat post clamp specified by the frame manufacturer and the tightening torque for the seat post saddle clamp. Deda models include single bolt and dual bolt clamps. Models with 2 M6 bolts have a tightening torque of 10 Nm Models with a single M8 bolt have a tightening torque of 20 Nm All Deda models are only designed to house 7 mm diameter round saddle rails. Please note the minimum insertion mark embossed on the seat post. Never ride with that mark visible above the seat tube. The general rules for correct maintenance should be applied for correct maintenance

COMPLETE TIME TRIAL HANDLEBARS

All Deda products in this category, whether carbon or aluminium, consist of two assemblable and adjustable parts. The complete handlebars consist of: Handlebars Clamps Extension Elbow rests Padding The right and left clamps to be fitted to 31.7 mm diameter handlebars may be opened, and are fixed only to the round section of the handlebars using M5 bolts with a tightening torque of 8 Nm. The upper section of the clamp has the housing for the extensions, with M5 bolts with a tightening torque of 8 Nm, and M5 bolt holes for fixing the elbow rests, using special bolts.

CENTRAL Aero EXTENSIONS

For both carbon and aluminium Deda models, extensions are fixed using a central clamp, with two side clamps for fixing the elbow rests. The extension clamp is fixed to the round section of the handlebars using M5 bolts with a tightening torque of 8 Nm. Prior to fitting the clamps, ensure that the handlebars are of the correct diameter (31.7) and they can withstand the load resulting from the tightening torque. Reducing bushings are also available for handlebars with 26 mm diameters. Check the tightening torques of all fasteners after competitive use, or each season in the case of light use. Replace the fasteners periodically every two years for improved safety. Periodically, check the general state of the individual components, in order to identify any immediate damage. Replace them if necessary. The strength characteristics of the handlebar stem and the handlebars deteriorate naturally depending on actual use (competitive cycling, frequency of use etc.); Deda Elementi recommend replacement after each competitive season and, for those not involved in competitive cycling, every 2 to 4 years depending on frequency of use. Handlebars may be cleaned using any domestic detergent, providing it is not abrasive or corrosive. The shine on anodised components may be best preserved by using a Vaseline wax polish or simple Vaseline or oenological oil. NB: Do not expose carbon parts to high temperatures for long periods of time and the aluminium carbon fittings to temperatures above 60C. All DEDA ELEMENTI components are tested according to UNI EN 14781 and UNI EN 14766 safety regulations and test methods For your safety and the long life of the products subject to precision fitting, it is recommended that only Deda Elementi components be used. Deda Elementi declines all responsibility if these simple rules are not respected. Deda Elementi S.r.l. declines all responsibility for improper use. Use with incompatible products may lead to reduced product lifespan.
