Cambridge Tests

Book Fair
Middle School students and their Language Arts teachers are to be
congratulated on their incredible work in the Book Fair. On Friday,
Oct. 30, 24 different groups made book presentations that truly
brought the stories alive with the use of drama, costume and
displays. All of our students, parents and people from other
schools were invited. Well done!
Who will be the AIS Math Wizard?
On Tuesday, Nov. 10 the Math Wizard competition will be held in
the school auditorium from 1:30-3:00 pm. 14 students from Grades
5-8 were selected following the results of a written challenge. They
will now compete in an oral exam to be named the Math Wizard.
Parents are welcome.
Math/Science/Tech/Art Fair
Students in Upper School will be participating in our annual
Math/Science/Tech/Art Fair on Tuesday, Nov. 24. They have been
working hard with their teachers to prepare their presentations and
experiments. Parents are welcome to attend.
Victory on the Rugby Field
The AIS Barbarians have once again beaten the competition in
rugby. They played local team Los Toros on Nov. 25 and won the
game 7-0. Congratulations. We urge the school community to
support our team in their next game on Sunday, Nov. 8.
Students in High School will be writing a mock Cambridge
English test on Wednesday, Nov. 11. This is a mandatory
examination for all students from 8th to 12th Grade. This year’s
Cambridge tests will be held on:
• Friday, Dec. 4 – PET
• Tuesday, Dec. 8 – FCE
• Wednesday, Dec. 9 - CAE
Soccer Field and Gymnasium
The school is happy to have its brand new gymnasium and
soccer field. Students are already using them during recess
and physical education classes and after school clubs.
Students are reminded of the following:
• Only sneakers can be used in the gym
• Soccer cleats must be worn by Upper School
students when on the field
• Food and drink are not permitted in the gym nor on
the field
• Hats and sun-block must be worn when outside
• PE classes are given priority over students on recess
in the use of the facilities
• Fair play among students must be maintained
Study Tip of the Week:
“It is always better to study for tests with a pen or pencil
in hand. You will better remember the important facts and
concepts if you write them out.”

Pajama Movie Night

Put on your pajamas and come watch a movie at

the school on Friday, Nov. 6. Hosted by Lower
School Student Council for students in Grades 1-
4 and their parents, the movie will be shown in
the auditorium at 6:00 pm. Entrance is free and
food will be available for
purchase. Everyone is
asked to bring a donation of dog food
which will be given to a local charity that
takes dogs off the street and helps them
find new homes.
International Day a Success!
With 15 different countries
represented, International Day was a
huge success. Held on Saturday,
October 17th, approximately 800
people participated. The event was
spearheaded by the PPG. It began
with impressive presentations from
each country. Elaborate displays were set up to represent different
cultural characteristics. Participants dressed up in different clothing
from the various countries and, to top it all, off, delicious foods were
provided. Congratulations to all people who helped make this a
fantastic and enlightening day.
PSU Exams
First Communion
Many students in Grades 5 and 6 took their First Communion
on Sunday, October 25. They are to be congratulated, along
with their Religion teacher, Maria de la Luz Garces, on their
hard work in preparing for this important event. Events such
as these are important in a person’s spiritual development.
Bullying and On-Line Safety Workshop
An informative workshop was held for parents on Thursday
Oct. 22. This evening workshop for parents of students in
Middle School addressed the issues of bullying and internet
safety. It provided parents with useful strategies to help their
children manage these important issues.

Students in Grade 12 will be writing the PSU examinations on Nov.

30 and Dec. 1. The students were recently taught relaxation Important Dates to Remember:

Murals and Mosaics

You may have noticed the construction of many murals throughout

the school and of mosaics in front. This is part of our interactive art
philosophy in which we have students helping beautify our school
environment. It is fascinating to watch as the art develops. Have
any extra paint that you don’t want to throw in the garbage but
which is needlessly taking up space in your home? Consider
donating them to the Art Department where they will be
incorporated into the new projects.
