Paragraph 1 Introduction
Title: Why Is Memory So Good and So Bad?
To begin the topic your mind works a lot like a computer. Your brain puts
information it judges to be important into "files." When you remember something,
you pull up a file. Memory doesn't always work perfectly. As people grow older, it
may take longer to retrieve those files.
Paragraph 2
Secondly In psychology, memory is the process in which information is encoded,
stored, and retrieved. Encoding allows information that is from the outside world to
reach our senses in the forms of chemical and physical stimuli. In this first stage
we must change the information so that we may put the memory into the encoding
process. Storage is the second memory stage or process. This entails that we
maintain information over periods of time. Finally the third process is the retrieval of
information that we have stored. We must locate it and return it to our
consciousness. Some retrieval attempts may be effortless due to the type of
information.
Paragraph 3
In addition to this the human brai-n is like a library that stock-s memories instead of
books. In some ways, that makes the hippocampus, the part of the brain most
involved in memory, the brain's librarian. The hippocampus has the most
responsibility in this cranial library, juggling the new releases of short-term memory
while cataloging materials for the permanent collection of long-term memory. It's
not the only part at work, however, in storing these chapters of our lives. Different
kinds of memory are stored in different areas of the brain. An additional with such a
large system, the brain needs a system of encoding and retrieving memories,
something a bit more complex than the local library's Dewey Decimal System.
The brain has to be able to pull information at the drop of a hat, whether it's a fact
on hold (such as a telephone number) or a dusty memory that's been sitting in
storage for years (the memory of your first kiss). No one likes a library that loses
books or shelves them in the wrong place. Yet sometimes we find ourselves with a
very poor librarian on our hands, one that doesn't allow us to retrieve memories
when we need them. Sometimes it's trivial, like when we tear apart our homes
looking for glasses perched innocuously atop our heads, and sometimes these
lapses in memories are more embarrassing, such as when we call a colleague
"sport" because we simply can't remember his name.
An additional disadvantage of the brain fragility recreational marijuana use causes
long term effects on two brain areas involved in emotion and motivation, according
to a new study published in The Journal of Neuroscience. The finding suggests
that even occasional consumption of this substance may cause permanent
changes in the brain .
The use of marijuana is often associated with impairments in memory, learning,
attention and motivation. Previous animal studies have shown that continuous
exposure to THC , the psychoactive component of cannabis, causes structural
changes in brain regions associated with these functions. However, little is known
about how the occasional and moderate drinking affects adolescents .
During the investigation, doctors at Northwestern University and the
Massachusetts General Hospital used scans to compare the brains of a group of
young , 18 to 35 years old , who smoked marijuana at least once a week with
people with little or no history of substance use . Psychiatric evaluations showed
that participants were not dependent on the drug .
They found significant differences in the size and shape of the nucleus accumbens
, the brain area involved in reward processing , and amglada associated with
emotion in the brain of those who used marijuana . These abnormalities were more
noticeable as more of the substance consumed by the participants. Study results
suggest that even occasional use of marijuana causes structural changes in the
brain .
Conclusion.
The goal of the whole essay Tips to strengthen memory
Eat well . Food also plays an important role in our work to strengthen memory. It is
key that we choose foods rich in certain chemicals that help the brain to work well .
Thus, we must include foods rich in phosphorus ( cocoa powder , egg yolks , oily
fish, almonds , dairy ... ), potassium ( avocados, bananas , wheat germ , oranges
... ) and magnesium ( sunflower seeds, peanuts , soybeans , whole grains ... ) . We
must also ensure the necessary input to the brain glucose better slow assimilation .
Bet on supplements. There are certain substances that help improve our memory
because they have antioxidant compounds and improve blood circulation . For
example , green tea is one of the best antioxidants , oregano improves blood
circulation in the brain , as do the gingko biloba or ginseng .
Drink with moderation. Alcohol is not a good friend of our brain and that there is
more to see how he tries to speak, think or say a person with few drinks . These
effects are not as devastating accompanied by red wine, in moderation , since it
contains resveratrol, a flavonoid beneficial for the arteries and , of course , also for
blood to reach the brain.
Cultivate your interest. There is no doubt that the things that interest us that you do
not remember much better. For this reason , it is important that we capsize in
matters and if we look bored , try to associate them with other things more
enjoyable for you . If you are able to recite by rote the alignment of your favorite
football team also will be able to remember other things you like less , you just try a
little harder .
Practice meditation . A study by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology , in
collaboration with the universities of Harvard and Yale , meditation can help
strengthen the areas of the cerebral cortex responsible for attention and
processing external sensory stimuli. In addition to combat stress and anxiety , it
seems that daily meditation practice has more benefits
