These instructions are intended to help people navigate the site Honto.jp, a website for buying manga, without knowing how to read Japanese. In the case that someone wants to Kevin Jolivette March 24, 2014 2 support their favorite manga author whose works haven't been officially translated yet, they can always buy books from here to help make sure their favorite author can stay serialized. This guide will assume you already have a browser (ex. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome), an email, basic knowledge of how to navigate a shopping site (ex. Amazon, Itunes) and the ability to do a Google search. Its not a requirement to complete this guide but its good have a broad idea of the Japanese language. Things like Kanji shouldn't be an completely unknown term to you.
Working internet connection Browser (IE, Firefox, Chrome etc.) Debit/Credit card Email Address (gmail, yahoo, hotmail etc.) Patience (Its coming from Japan, shipping can take a while. 1-3 weeks with Fedex)
First of all, it should be noted that shipping can be extremely expensive. For this reason, Its recommend you buy everything you want in one go. As depicted in the picture below, the standard for manga is usually 150~200g.
http://help.honto.jp/faq_detail.html?id=10207 This might not seem like much at first, but when we look at the shipping rates for FedEx below, which is the shipping option I recommend: Kevin Jolivette March 24, 2014 3
According to the above image, no matter what you buy, it starts at 2000. 100 is approximately the same as 1USD. Therefore, the total for shipping will start at about 20 dollars (19.4760 USD). The more weight it has, the more of a discount you get. Doubling that amount will cost you $30, just $10 more. This is the reason why you should buy everything in one and and be prepared to drop money to get the most bang for your buck.
You may also want to keep in mind that honto.jp does not calculate the shipping for you until after it ships and depending on the book, there is no way to find out how much it weights. Be sure to estimate the price as best you can and set aside a certain amount as collateral.

The idea is that if you save up enough points, you can buy things for free/discounted using this system. Western site could learn a thing or two from this practice.
Once you're done with everything above, confirm your purchase.
23 If everything looks okay, there is only one last step.
Congratulations! Honto.jp will spend 1-3 days processing your packaged before they ship it. Kevin Jolivette March 24, 2014 18 You will get an email once it is done, they will tell you the price + the shipping at that point. You will be charged as soon as it ships, so make sure you have the money ready for transition. It took approximately 2-3 weeks total for my package to come.
