The Ludlow Cable Committee will be awarding a $1,000 college scholarship in memory of Karyn M. Kernan. Karyn, a long time Ludlow resident, passed away October 11, 2006. She was a member of the Cable Committee and an avid champion of education in the Town of Ludlow.
Candidates must agree to volunteer part time as an Intern with LCTV for a minimum of 40 hours. Any previous volunteer hours may be used towards fulfilling this commitment. It is hoped that the Scholarship and Internship will help educate and train candidates who seek to enter the broadcasting field. Additionally, it is LCTVs intention that the program will enrich both the volunteer and LCTV. Scheduling will be at the mutual agreement of the recipient and LCTV. Internship must be completed within 2 years of being awarded the scholarship. Recipient agrees to repay LCTV in the event Internship is not fulfilled. A letter of acceptance or some other documentation must be provided as proof of intent to attend an institution of higher education, before check is paid.
1. Eligibility is open to Ludlow High School seniors who will be enrolled in an undergraduate college degree program during the 2014-2015 academic year and upperclassmen currently enrolled in a degree program with an emphasis in an area that may lead to employment in the broadcasting or cable industry. Applicant must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA and intend to declare a major in journalism or related broadcast field at an accredited university or college. This scholarship will not be based on need.
2. Applicant must be a resident of the Town of Ludlow.
3. The applicant must be in good standing with their High School or the currently enrolled college.
4. Each applicant must complete a scholarship application form and submit it with the required material.
Selection of the recipient will be made by the Ludlow Cable Committee. Applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria: grades, leadership, personal achievements, and extracurricular and community activities.
Students must submit the following items with their completed applications.
1. An academic transcript of grades. 2. Three references, one of which should be a faculty member and one reference that will recommend your work ethic. 3. List your personal or educational achievements and any honors. 4. Write a brief paragraph of your career goals. 5. Write a short essay about yourself.
All items requested must be received in order for the application to qualify for consideration.
DEADLINES: APPLICANTS MUST SUBMIT COMPLETED APPLICATIONS TO THE COMMITTEE NO LATER THAN May 16th, 2014.
