Children should have 60 minutes or more
of physical activity daily, and adults should
have at least 30 minutes daily. The built
environment, or the physical components
of where we live and work (e.g. homes,
buildings, streets and open spaces), can
infuence the amount of our physical
activity.
Creating Healthy Communities (CHC)
evaluates neighborhoods, and identifes
assets and barriers that can infuence
health outcomes, such as presence of
sidewalks and bicycle or walking paths.

CREATING HEALTHY
COMMUNITIES
The Creating Healthy Communities
(CHC) Program is the offcial Health
Promotion and Worksite Wellness
initiative for the City of Cincinnati. CHC
encourages environmental, policy and
systems changes in various environments
to improve nutrition, increase physical
activity, promote tobacco cessation,
and provide chronic disease prevention
education.
HEALTHY EATING,
ACTIVE LIVING
H.E.A.L. empowers community members
to make healthy decisions in the fght
against obesity. CHC uses H.E.A.L
principles to support communities in their
efforts to enhance physical environments,
increase access to healthful foods and
provide residents with more opportunities
to be physically active.

TOBACCO-FREE LIVING
Tobacco-free living means avoiding use
of all types of tobacco products - such
as cigarettes, cigars, smokeless tobacco,
pipes and hookahs - and living free from
secondhand smoke exposure. Living
tobacco-free reduces the risk of developing
cancer, heart disease, asthma and chronic
obstructive lung disease, gum disease and
other diseases that contribute to premature
death.

CHRONIC DISEASE
PREVENTION
Chronic diseases account for 70% of all
deaths in the U.S., or 1.7 million each year.
These diseases cause major limitations in
activities of daily living for almost 1 out of
10 Americans. CHC collaborates and plans
events with local stakeholders to address
prevention and control of chronic disease.
