What you wanted to learn
I'd like to learn how to make manuals like the ones you
provide for these workshops.
This is my first time hearing about MS Visio. My first task to
know more about is creating program manuals. Everything
after this is a plus!
I have not used the program before, but would like to learn
more about it and it's functionality for presentations.
Mainly flow charts and guides.
I have never used this program so I was interested in learning
all about it :)
Whats in this guide?
This guide contains instructions on how to
1) Create:
a Visio drawing and save it as a drawing, portable document format (pdf), and jpg.
a timeline with markers for specific dates, today, time periods, and format the timeline.
an organizational chart with images.
2) Format objects by color, effects, size
3) Design: Create and modify design schema for setting default colors and effects of objects.
4) Practice using the application to present information.
5) Interface: Compare the advantages and disadvantages of using Microsoft Office
PowerPoint and Microsoft Visio for creating graphics and presenting information to an
audience, creating guides to resources or programs.
When you see the PC symbol, click on the graphic to access online video tutorials.

Quick Shapes, Basic Shapes and other
STENCILS are always available. You may
choose which ones you want to add to your
STENCIL menu on the left.
You may SEARCH for specific shapes you would
like to use and then add the stencil for those
shapes to your left side menu.

As you add various shapes to your menu,
Microsoft Visio will create a DOCUMENT STENCIL.
This Stencil will track all the shapes you are using
in the document and place them in a single menu.
This way when you want to use a shape again,
you dont have to hunt it down. Its in your
DOCUMENT STENCIL.

Write text here. Like Microsoft Office Publisher, Microsoft Visio documents are based
on objects.
Unlike Microsoft* Office Publisher, you can only hyperlink objects, not individual words
or phrases of text.
So if you want it to appear as if a word or phrase is hyperlinked, then you would draw a
transparent object and use CNTL + K to open the hyperlink dialog window.
You can make the object look like a hyperlink underline in text by drawing a narrow
line, rectangle or rounded rectangle and placing it under the text you want to
hyperlink.
Then, the reader can click on the transparent object, that looks like an underline or a
lined box, and go to the website linked. You can also create objects that look like
clickable buttons, such as the ones above the red heading in this example. Each
object may be clicked to take you to another page in the document or online.
*If you attempt to create a hyperlink with text, you will succeed in creating a hyperlink
associated with the object in which the text appears. Therefore clicking anywhere on
that object (e.g., this text box) will take you to the linked website or page in this
document.

You cannot
precisely size
any object. In
other words,
you cannot
click or type in
the number of
inches for
width, depth
or height.
You can adjust
all the other
features such
as color,

width and
color.

FUNCTION
Presentation tool is limited.
The advantage is that you presentation screen adapts to the size
of your page in Microsoft Visio. In other words, the space shown
on the presentation screen is the space holding all of the objects
on the page, rather than having to fit the objects to the standard
size page of Microsoft Office PowerPoint.
Disadvantage: You cannot animate your presentation. If you
think animation is important to your presentation, please use
Microsoft Office PowerPoint
