Week 2: Atlantic Revolution

Haitian Revolution
On a scale from 1 to 5, one being the lowest, how well did the Haitian revolution produce liberty?
On the same scale, how well did the Haitian revolution produce equality?
What evidence supports your evaluation?
The Haitian revolution produced equality by abolishing slavery Haiti proclaimed its independence from !rance,
as a republic "ll of the people from the revolution e#cept for the salves conceived of liberty and equality with
special terms for their own situations $eople didn%t support the abolition of slavery because that was their main
source of money was from the plantations and in order for the plantations to continue running they needed
slaves They were trying to ma&e liberty and equal rights for all but at the same time ' feel li&e the whites cared
more about them selves but once they reali(ed the blac&s were more powerful than them, the slaves drove
them off the island "nd it produced equality because it was the first slave rebellion of modern times equali(ing
all blac&s with whites
American Revolution
On a scale from 1 to 5, one being the lowest, how well did the "merican )evolution produce liberty?
On the same scale, how well did the "merican )evolution produce equality? * rrrr
What evidence supports your evaluation?
The "merican )evolution is the reason we have equality today $art of the reason the war was fought was due
to lac& of equality The "merican )evolution created equality because once the )evolution was over we
started to see things such as the +ill of )ights and our ,onstitution "lthough there was still slavery The
"merican revolution created liberty because it allowed the colonies to become independent so the +ritish
-mpire was no longer in charge of them
French revolution
On a scale from 1 to 5, one being the lowest, how well did the !rench revolution produce liberty?
On the same scale, how well did the !rench revolution produce equality?
What evidence supports your evaluation?
The !rench )evolution started after the "merican )evolution when the people had seen how much power the
"mericans got, therefor they wanted a country which the people had power The ordinary people suffered for
too long and a change need to be made They fought for respect and a say in the government The conclusion
of the war allowed them citi(enship, nationalism, inalienable rights, and peace and enlightenment

...Which of these "tlantic revolutions best lived up to the ideals of liberty and equality?
...What evidence supports your argument?
Honestly it is hard for me to /ust pic& one because the "merican )evolution was the stepping points for The
Haitian )evolution and the !rench )evolution because they all rebelled after the "mericans because they
wanted change +ut these revolutions really helped in terms of liberty and equality because overall they
emphasi(ed the universal ideas of enlightenment including equal /ustice under law by disinterested courts as
opposed to particular /ustice handed down by a local noble 0iberty and equality raved through all the colonies
and countries
