The Healing Ministry

Before you can even begin to familiarize yourself with what the healing ministry is you

must first know the meaning of the word healing. According to the Merriam -Webster

dictionary, the word healing means, to make sound or whole, to cause an undesirable

condition to be overcome. Upon looking up the word healing the word faith healing also

came up. Faith healing is a method of treating infirmities or diseases by prayer and the

exercise of faith in God. The bible is really big on the children of God having faith, in

Hebrews 11:6 it says “Without faith it is impossible to please him” and according to

Romans 12:3 “God has dealt each one a measure of faith”, so it is up to us as children of

God to access our faith or make our faith work for us. Since we know what healing is

what we need to know now is what ministry is, ministry is simply a person or thing

through which something is accomplished. So when we put the two words together we

can conclude that a healing ministry is an institute that treats infirmities, or an

undesirable condition through prayer and faith in God. Healing is central to the gospel,

healing the relationship between God and man is the very essence of Christ's work in his

life, death, and resurrection. During his ministry we see Jesus heal lepers, blind men, the

lame, a hemorrhaging woman, the demon-possessed, and even raised the dead. Jesus
involved his disciples in the work of healing, in Matthew chapter 10 we find Jesus giving

his disciples power over unclean spirits, then he sends them out and commands them to

heal the sick, cleanse lepers, raise the dead, and cast out demons; the book of Acts

contains accounts of healing by Christ's followers, and the epistles of Paul discuss

healing as a gift of the Spirit. Today the healing ministry is experiencing a rebirth.

Christians are realizing that Christ's commission to heal the sick was meant for all of us.

Everyday people pray with each other for healing because they believe Christ's

commission to heal the sick. We believe in a God whose love has the power to heal

physical, emotional and spiritual wounds.

Jack Coe

One of the boldest Pentecostal preachers of the Voice of Healing days was Jack Coe. Sr.

Coe was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on March 11th, 1918. In 1941, Coe joined

the army after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. During his stay in the military, Coe was born

again. He was so sold out to God that he attended church services every night. This led to

much persecution from his fellow soldiers, who didn’t understand the strong call of God

on his life. Coe was a very large man with a dynamic platform presence. He was well

known for his blunt and direct preaching style. The boldness of the Spirit of God in his

life was quite evident in his ministry because he was never afraid of telling it the way it

was. Those who attended his meetings loved him because of his frankness and his simple

way of communicating the very things they were thinking. He truly understood the needs

of the people and there was no beating around the bush when he spoke.

Coe was a highly opinionated man and was never afraid of a spiritual fight. He enjoyed

healing the sick and casting out devils. Hundreds of people who used wheelchairs would
attend his healing services. He would line them up adjacent to each other across the front

of the platform. After a song of thanks to God, he would grab them by the hand and jerk

them up out of the wheelchair in Jesus’ name. This was a bold act of faith on his part but

the proof that God was with him came from watching the healed walk away from their

wheelchairs. Many religious leaders were irritated by Coe’s frankness and thought that he

lacked the sophisticated polish needed in ministry. Even though many religious leaders

attacked Coe for being a radical and an extremist, it never appeared to affect him in a

negative way. The greater the religious opposition to him, the happier he seemed. If there

was any man who had an overwhelming passion to touch the world for Jesus, it was Jack

Coe. According to Dr. Kenneth Hagin, Sr., founder of the Word of Faith Movement,

“Jack Coe had the strongest healing anointing of anyone in my lifetime.”

Teresa Johnson

Not all healing ministry has to do with the physical healing through the supernatural in

some way. Many times healing has to do with what people do in their different

professions from day to day. Another great person who exemplifies the healing ministry

is a financial consultant I know named Teresa Johnson. This woman’s main job is to go

into churches and other Christian organizations, assess their monetary situation, and then

fix it with her knowledge of money and understanding of how it works. She has brought

countless peoples families and ministries into financial order after being in complete

disarray. Everybody needs to have a healthy and sustainable financial situation in his or

her lives, without it life becomes a struggle of great proportions. A short story of how this

woman used her financial healing ministry is when she visited a ministry in Flint,

Michigan. This ministry was being ravaged financially by unstable staff who would take
money from the church and spend it on things for their personnel gain. Pastor Kelso went

and attended the church ministry for seven years as their personal consulted. With her

business savvy skills and saving techniques she turned around the ministry completely

and held evangelism crusades in the process. This church is now one of the biggest

ministries in Flint, Michigan. After she finished her work there she came to work with

my spiritual father at his church to revise their financial situation. The church at one point

was having some deficit problems that needed to be fixed promptly. She came and totally

revolutionized the way the church took care of their finances. Their deficit is now gone

and the church is growing now more than ever. As a Christians I’ve been taught to be a

good steward of the gifts that have been given. Among those gifts is my body and to be a

good steward in the eyes of our Creator, we are called to treat our bodies with respect,

dignity and care. Healing was an important part of the early church's ministry. As

described in the Bible and lived in the ministry of the early church, health is seen as

something basic and important in its physical, mental and spiritual dimensions. Paul

describes healing as one of the gifts of the spirit (I Corinthians 12:9), In the Letter of

James we are told to have the church leaders pray over the sick and anoint the person

with oil in the name of God, and God "will raise them up." (James 5:14-15). "For surely

I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to

give you a future with hope. Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I

will hear you. When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your

heart, I will let you find me, says the Lord..."Jeremiah 29: 11-14. I believe that everyone

is called to the healing ministry in some form or fashion. Like President Robert’s stated

we are called to the healing ministry in whatever field we are to go out into. God's call on

my life is first of all to follow Christ and be the person he has intended me to be. Since I
have been blessed with the ability to create music I believe that’s where I am to go into

my healing ministry. Since I am musically inclined the area for me to share my healing

ministry is very broad, but it exceeds just being able to play or sing a couple of songs.

There are many ways to share the healing to God’s people. Even if I didn’t have those

tools available to help me win souls to Christ and to help those who have the faith get

healed, there is still the power of prayer. Are any among you sick? They should call for

the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the

name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up;

and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven James 5:15. For I know that this

shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus

Christ, Philippians 1:19. I believe my role in the healing ministry is to create an

atmosphere of worship, speak the prophetic word of the lord, as well as pray so that

others may receive their healing. I believe that healing is a gift from God. Mark 16:17-18

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name . . . they shall lay hands on

the sick, and they shall recover. So since I believe then I know that the signs should

follow me. I do believe that God has called me to be in the pulpit, but just not at this point

in time in my life. Right now I am called into the music ministry. I will continue to get

my education so I can go out and further myself in the music ministry, and I will continue

to pray because I know that prayer changes things and anybody can do it.

Anyone can pray with another for healing. James 5:16 says "that the effectual fervent

prayer of a righteous man avails much." And anyone can see that healing takes place

because God's love for us is so great. However, his knowledge and wisdom is very great

and he sees things differently then us. So we shall not always know why a particular

healing does not happen. We need to love those we pray with enough to spend whatever
amount of time is necessary to get to the root of their problem and pray effectively for

them. Failure here is an important cause of non- healing. Yet Jesus has commanded us

that: anyone who loves God must also love his brother. John 4:20 Mark 11:24 "Therefore

I say to you whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and

you will have them."
