I wanna try and model my engine in DD for comparative purposes. Also, what is a good figure to use for driveline loss on a 2WD Tahoe auto? Been using 75 percent for a multiplier to figure out what a rear wheel dyno would read and I'd really like that number to be accurate. Course, even if it winds up being 30 percent loss the engines I'm calculating should make at least the same at the rear wheels as my current engine does, based if nothing else on higher compression, better valve timing and headers. Yes, there is a replacement for displacement, until you apply the same tricks to displacement. Thu Sep 29, 2005 5:16 pm JR96CK Joined: 03 Apr 1998 Posts: 974 Location: Texas

These are a little backwards. The 1.5 ratio doesnt work out to the 1.6 ratios listed. I think they are mixed up a bit it should read. intake lift with 1.5 rockers is .414 intake lift with 1.6 rockers is .442 exhaust lift with 1.5 rockers is .428 exhaust lift with 1.6 rockers is .457 these contrast with tyhe 1996 specs I found 96 L31 Camshaft Profile Intake: Opening Closing Duration .004 14 BTDC .004 61.5 ABDC 255 Degrees .050 13 ATDC .050 22.5 ABDC 190 Degrees Inlet Centerline 106.25 Degrees Max Lift .275 X 1.5 = .412 max lift .275 x 1.6 = .440 Exhaust: .004 62 BBDC .004 24 ATDC 266 Degrees .050 31.5 .050 16 BTDC 195 Degrees Exhaust Centerline 115.75 degrees Max Lift .281 X 1.5 = .423 maz lift .281 x 1.6 = ..450 Lobe Separation 111 Degrees maybe these slight differences account for the 5 hp difference between the 1996 being 250 hp and the 1997-2002being 255 hpthus netting a 5 hp difference. How knows?? Why are the Vortec camshaft specs so hard to come by? Is is a secret or something? I would like to know the camshaft specs for the 295hp Vortec 350 marine engine , the 1 with the marine intake. The marine engine and the L31 truck engine have the same heads and run the exact same 60 psi of fuel pressure, what makes the marine engine need the 24 lb/hr injectors and the L31 truck engine get by with the 19 lb/hr injectors?? I would love too know. Paul Thu Sep 29, 2005 8:32 pm JR96CK Joined: 03 Apr 1998 Posts: 974 Location: Texas
I got those a long time ago... don't remember where from, so your figures probably are more accurate. Don't know if they changed cams later on... maybe so. It does seem pretty hard to find the exact specs. No idea on the marine cam, but seems to me like marine engines have different needs. They are normally expected to either run max out or idle. No idea if that makes a difference where the cam is concerned. Fri Sep 30, 2005 4:23 am Hog Joined: 11 Dec 2001 Posts: 3928 Location: 2007 TrailblazerLS 1997 GMC Sierra SLE RCSB, Ontario
I ran into these specs on ebay, they say its out of a Vortec engine for marine use. NEW 350 (5.7) CHEVY ROLLER CAMSHAFT This (NOS) new roller camshaft is out of the vortec engine made for marine applications. It comes with the fuel pump lobe so that it can be used for the fuel injected or carburated applications. This is a new take out camshaft. GM part# 14097395. Specs are a little better than normal Gm stock roller cams. CAMSHAFT SPECS: Lift Int .431 Exh .452 Duration 196 Int. 206 Exh @.150 Tappet lift Centerline 108 degree ATDC Int. 115 degree BTDC Exh. I just checked in my GMPP books and these exact specs are from the cams used in the 350 hp Ramjet 350, the RJ 350 uses the LT4 rollerrockers. 350hp@5200 rpm 400 lb/ft torque at 3500 this same cam is also used in the HT 383 engine 325hp@4500rpm 415 lb/ft torque @ 3500rpm Do you guys think that this is what the Marine intakes used to get 295 hp from the Marine 5.7 and 320hp from the Marine 6.2L Chev V8's? I think it is. pauly Tue Oct 18, 2005 11:04 pm Speeder Joined: 30 Apr 1999 Posts: 8773 Location: 2000 Silverado Z71 4.9L 4L80E Most likely the marine engine needs the larger injectors because I don't think marine engines use O2 sensors, so they have to run off a fuel map, and you usually have to run non-O2 managed engines richer to make sure you don't get a lean condition under any circumstances. Couse, that's a guess on my part. If you think about it though, the aftermarket injection systems that have an optional O2 sensor say you can get 10 percent or so better mileage with an O2 input when the map can be made leaner for economy. I don't think they would purposely set a map-only system to run richer just to sell a 150 dollar O2 sensor when their major claim to selling the whole system to begin with is better fuel economy. They wouldn't sell many if a person sunk 2 grand into aftermarket FI and got no better than their carb. Cool Dirty, I think you would be very happy with the HT 383. Gobs of torque, decent power and GM Engineering. Hog Fri Oct 21, 2005 6:41 pm Display posts from previous: All Posts Oldest First Go GM Performance Forum Index GM Performance Forum L31 cam specs
