PRODUCT FEATURES: Hi-temperature properties (Thermally stable 900F) Protects against STYRENE attack and maximizes performance of the TR-900, 920 & 930 Liquid Semi-permanent Release agents Aids break-in release and seals porosity Moisture cure which adheres well to the mould surface with no transfer Compatible with most release agents SUGGESTED USES: A Base coat or Sealer applied to Fiberglass, metal or Composite tooling prior to application of the TR-900, 920 & 930 Releases. Recommended for all types of POLYESTER moulding, EPOXY moulding and other THERMOSET MOULDED fiberglass or Graphite Reinforced applications. Clean MOULD SURFACE thoroughly of all previous sealers and release agents using TR-905 Mould Prep SOLVENT. Light abrasive compounding may be necessary to remove the various types of release agents or sealers previously used. After compounding, first water wash and wipe dry to remove any compound residue. Then completely clean the mould surface with the TR-905 Mould Prep Solvent. See 905 Product Data Sheet. Apply the TR-910 Sealer to a small area (approx 3 x 3) in a thin wet continuous film. While still wet, gently wipe dry with a clean, lint free cotton cloth. Start at one end of mould surface and continue until entire mould has been sealed. Apply a second coat to ensure uniform coverage or for more porous surfaces. Allow mould to stand or sealer to cure a minimum of 20-30 minutes between application or before using the TR-900, 920 or 930 release agents. For maximum high temperature moulding performance cure sealer at 250F for 1 hour or allow longer ambient temperature cure of 2-3 hours. When spraying, use a dry air source or airless spray, applying in a thin continuous smooth film, avoiding excess flooding or runs. Keep spray tip approximately 10-15 inches from mould surface. While still wet, gently wipe dry with a clean lint free cotton cloth as noted in wipe application.

Plastrene No. 5
PVA MOULD RELEASE AGENT
Description:
Plastrene No 5
Plastrene No. 5 is a water/alcohol solution of Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) film forming materials. It has been formulated for use as a parting layer, for separation between unsaturated polyester or epoxy based composites and various mould surfaces. Plastrene No. 5 is available in clear or blue dyed grades, and can be applied by brush, sponge or spray application. The material is water-soluble and is not recommended for use with resins containing or liberating water during cure (eg: Phenolics).
Features
Low viscosity Rapid film formation Water soluble
Benefits
Excellent sprayability/application characteristics Reduced mould cycle times Mould release/film removal able to be assisted by application of water.
Application:
Residues of other PVC films or any silicone containing release agents should be removed from the mould surface before application. Any solvent wipes should be followed by cleaning with detergent/water solutions, rinsing and then thorough drying of the mould surface. Plastrene No. 5 can be applied to the mould surface using brush, wipe or spray techniques, to give typical film thickness of 510 microns (0.2-0.4 thou). Approximately 20-30 minutes drying time (depending on humidity) should be allowed before starting part fabrication on the PVA film. Pre-heating the mould surface or application of hot air will speed drying time.
Standard Packaging:

If the plug has been finished in a gelcoat or similar polyester type product, then the following products may be used. 1. If the plug has 600grit wet & dry scratches or finer, you may start with 3M Marine High Gloss Cutting Compound using a3M 5700 White Compounding buff pad. 2. This should then be followed with the 3M Finesse-it Liquid Finishing Compound, using the 3M 5705 Yellow Polishing buff pad. At this stage the Polyester surface should have a high gloss finish. a) If the plug has been finished with Urethane Paint, it should be allowed to cure for a minimum of seven days before any further work is performed on the paint surface. (May be post cured to save time. Check with the paint manufacturer for specific details). If the finish achieved from spraying is not good enough to mould from, use a fine grade paper to remove any fine orange peel. This should be followed by buffing with 3M Marine High Gloss Cutting Compound, and then finished with 3M Finesse-it Liquid Finishing Compound.
b)
3. Once the desired finish has been achieved, the plug surface should then be washed thoroughly with clean soapy water to remove all polish and dust residue. 4. Wipe the mould over with TR-905 Mould Prep Cleaner. This will remove any traces of solvents from the surface. 5. Apply two coats of TR-910 Semi-permanent sealer. Allow at least 15-20 minutes between each application. (As with all release systems, the longer between coats the better they cure) 6. Following the application of the TR-910 sealer, apply three coats of TR-900 Semi-Permanent Release, allowing a minimum of 5-10 minutes between each coat. (As with all release systems, the longer between coats the better they cure). 7. Follow this up with one coat of TR-102 regular paste wax, or TR-108 Basic Non Silicone Paste Wax. (With intricate or complex shaped plugs, a PVA release agent may be used as insurance against hang-ups. If the customer chooses to use PVA, then TR-108 Basic Paste Wax should be used, as it does not contain silicones.) 8. It is recommended that all such finishes are left for at least 24 hours before proceeding. (except if using PVA. The PVA should be applied and allowed to dry, just prior to gelcoating to ensure no dust is allowed to settle in the PVA film) 9. The Tooling Gelcoat may now be applied.
Mould Preparations
Once the mould has been removed from the plug, the decision needs to be made on which release system is to be used. Large moulds take a long time to laminate. This means that the mould will have gelcoat sitting on it for a day or so, before a tie layer is applied. For this reason, it is not recommended that the semi-permanent systems are used, due to the possibility of Pre-Release in warmer weather.

To the extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any loss, damage, expense, injury or death sustained or incurred by a customer or any other party resulting directly or indirectly out of: (i) the supply, performance or use of any goods or services; (ii) the breach of any agreement between us and a customer; or (iii) our negligence.
Plug & Mould Preparation (cont.) Plug & Mould Preparation (cont.)
5. Apply two coats of TR-910 Semi Permanent Sealer. Allow 15-20 minutes cure between coats and 30 minutes after final coat. (preferably longer if schedule permits) 6. Apply 4-5 coats of TR paste wax. (if using TR-102 regular, or TR-104 Hi Temp, allow to dry (5-10 minutes) and polish with a soft cloth). Note: It is recommended allowing an hour or more between coats, to permit solvent evaporation and the carnauba base to set. Allow to stand for at least 24 hours. Then apply additional coat of paste wax and leave for a minimum of one hour prior to commencing initial layup. If temperatures are below 25C, longer cure time should be allowed. 7. With intricate or complex shaped moulds, a PVA release agent may be used on the first couple of parts as insurance against hang-ups. If the customer chooses to use PVA, then TR-108 Basic paste wax should be used, as it does not contain silicones. 8. Apply 1 coat of TR paste wax between each of the first 4-5 parts to condition the mould. (Then apply as needed. Frequency will vary depending on mould design and materials used) 9. Once the mould is broken in, you may change over to TR-210 Self-Stripping Liquid Wax. This product is applied by cloth, sponge or by spraying. The mould should appear wet when applied. Allow to dry, and polish off with a clean soft cloth. Using TR-210 will keep the mould free of wax build up and provide a high gloss finish. Note: Liquid waxes must be shaken regularly during application, due to separation between the solvents and waxes.
Non-Skid Areas
10. With all non-skid areas apply TR-214 Regular Liquid Mould Release. This produce is less volatile than the TR-210. It is slower drying and will penetrate the deep crevices within the patterns. Work into deep areas with a stiff bristled brush. Allow to dry and buff off with a clean soft cloth. (Repeat treatment to these areas with 3-4 coats). 11. Apply one additional coat of TR-214 Regular Liquid Mould Release between the first 4-5 parts. Note: Liquid waxes must be shaken regularly during application, due to separation between the solvents and waxes. 12. There after apply as necessary or when parts get tight.
Finished Parts
Depending on what state the finished parts are, will depend on what compounds should be used on the finish product. Presuming the products have a good finish from the mould, only a final clean and shine will be necessary. 1. the most universal product that will provide an excellent result is TR Gel Gloss. The larger trade pack is TR-500. The product will clean and shine the surface. 2. For a higher grade finish, use TR-510 Poly Sealant. This product will put a long lasting Polymer Coating over the entire surface. It will leave a high gloss and provide an excellent barrier against UV weathering.
