ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE RECORD GUIDE

Experience Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate at least 48 months of verifiable, acceptable engineering experience, of which at least 12
months must be acquired in a Canadian jurisdiction under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer
!ou ma" be given a maximum of 12 months of experience credit for a post#graduate engineering degree or degrees in
the same engineering discipline as "our undergraduate degree !ou ma" also be eligible for up to 12 months of pre#
graduation engineering experience provided that the experience is acquired after completion of half of "our

Acceptable Engineering Experience
'atisfactor" engineering experience is that which complements "our academic engineering training and builds on the
(nowledge that "ou gained in universit" Activities must involve) engineering design* design review+modifications* or
problem solving that requires engineering anal"sis ,his experience should also provide for the development of
responsibilit", judgment, communication s(ills and self#confidence

exposure to the first two, -Application of ,heor". and -$ractical %xperience. is mandator" while a reasonable exposure
to the remaining elements is sufficient A complete lac( of exposure to an" one of these areas ma" render the
applicant unsuitable for licensure
Application of teor! # anal"sis, design, s"nthesis, devising testing methods, implementation methods
Practical experience / function of components as part of a larger s"stem, limitations of practical engineering,
significance of time in the engineering process, (nowledge and understanding of codes, standards, regulations
and laws
"anagement of engineering # planning, scheduling, budgeting, supervision, project control, ris( assessment
Communication s#ills # written wor(, oral presentations, presentations to the general public
$ocial implications of engineering / determining the value or benefits of the engineering wor( to the public,
putting appropriate safeguards in place, relationship between the engineering activit" and the public, role of
regulator" agencies
All of the above noted factors are ta(en into account when assessing the final %xperience 0ecord and the application
for licensure ,he simple passage of time is not sufficient* the qualit! of the experience is ver" important

Referees
A minimum of three referees is required to verif" "our engineering experience &ne must be "our direct supervisor,

can comment directl" on "our wor( for a minimum of 12 months 6f "ou have wor(ed for more than one emplo"er,
over the applicable wor( period, please suppl" the pertinent information about "our direct supervisor from each place
of emplo"ment and at least one $rofessional %ngineer referee who can comment on a minimum of 12 months of
experience
