Please send along with this form copies of recommendations from churches which will encourage
other churches to support your missionary work. There are churches which will not allow a
visiting missionary to speak unless a church recommendation can be shown. Since it is impos
sible for any one person to know all Christians in the world, this recommendation by a respon
sible New Testament church is a vital help in persuading others of your worthiness and the value
of your mission. Mission Services stands ready to help you inform HORIZONS readers about
your church recommendations. Since the church is sending you to the mission field (Acts 13:1-3)
and will help provide the necessary needs on the field, naturally the church should share the
credit in your missionary ministry. One of the ways that the church can do this is to share their
conviction regarding your missionary ministry with others. Certainly, their words will help
convince others regarding the worthiness of your work. Please help MKSION SERVICES to
spread your news through HORIZONS, Packets and Slide library by sending your church recom
mendations as soon as possible. Thanks. Send what you have now, and the others later.

NEWS VRITE-UP for MISSION SER7ICES, JOLIET, ILLINOIS.
Derrence & Donna Smaage have terminated their ministry with the Orchard Street
Christian Church, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and announced their decision to go as
missionaries to South Africa. They will he working with the Wynherg church in
Capetown and also with the Gordon Nelson family who sailed Bor Capetown last
March and with John Pulford who will sail for Capetown this
tative plans of the 3 missionary families will be to establish New Testament
churches in the larger cities of South Africa, a task which has been neglected
perhaps because it is less glamourous and adventurous than the native work
which has|( prospered in South Africa.
Mm
The Smaages are well suited for this type of missionary endeavor having had
ministerial experience in both large and small churches, rural and city.
Bro. Smaage is a graduate of Minnesota Bible College and has done graduate
work at Lincoln Christian Seminary, Lincoln, 111. and also Trinity Seminary
Deerfield, Illinois. He has held ministries in Albert Lea, Minnesota, Worth-
ington, Indiana and Milwaukee, Wisconsin^ and comes to the mission field
highly recommended by the churches he and his wife have served. Donna also
attended Minnesota Bible College but her academic career was cut short when
the two were married August 25, 195^. Gracious, and always charming she has
excelled in the service of Christ in the most difficult role of all; that of
a minister's wife. The Smaages have been blessed with 5 children, Timothy
who died in childbirth in Cheryl who is now 6 years old and Kevin who
is k, 1957
Derrence claims the Church of Christ at Storm Lake, Iowa as his home church
where he was baptized by Brother Herman Kooy, minister of the church at that
time. DoggaJSj^home church is the church at Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin where
her father^is a deacon and her mother serves as Sunday School treasurer.
Ralph Michaels is the present minister.
The Smaage's desire is simply to serve Christ to the best of their ability
and because of this have decided to use an airplane to hasten the work of
evangelism in South Africa. Brother Smaage is not only an able minister but
also an experienced commercial pilot. He turned down an opportunity to fly
for the largest Airline company in the U.S.A. (American Airlines) in order
to respond to God's call to the ministry. He freely admits that this^^^ the
best decision he has ever made and has never ceased to wonder at the blessings
and goodness God has given to XXX/XXXX/ this life.
The Smaage family hopes to sail for Capetown this coming January, 1966. They
are available for speaking dates now through December and are in need of
living-link and service-link support. They may be contacted directly at
7315 West Orchard Street, Milwaukee, Wise. 5521^ or through their forwarding
agents, Mr-Mrs Fred Crawford, 1279 Martha Washington Bpive, Milwaukee, Wis
consin 55213 Tour prayers are earnestly sought on their behalf as they
seek support which will enable them to preach to the countless thousands
outside of Christ in South Africa.
