American Express:

Period: Current

Role: Director BigData ( Infrastructure, Architecture and Engineering)

Responsibilities:

- Lead and direct, architecture, design and implementation teams
- Managed and designed execution environment running 800 nodes
on MapRs M5 distribution
- Designed, structure consisting of more than 200 ecosystem compenents
- Direction and creation of standards around appropriate stress testing and
performance testing of nodes.
- Responsible for overall security assurance of the cluster
- Design of infrastructural architecture of large splunk cluster
- Appropriating methodologies for interaction with downstream and upstream systems
in American Express.
- Recruitment and interviewing of appropriate big data talent.
- Research and development activities, around the technology stack.
- Designing reference architecture around newer products and their applicability for
business.
- Guiding teams for performance tuning and optimization.

Important Achievements:

- While building and testing one of the environments here at American Express,
consisting 256 nodes, I guided my team towards achieving a World record feat.
we were able to break Terasort and MinuteSort records by miles. We achieved 1 TB
sort in 44 seconds and sorted 1.65 TB of data in 59 seconds. These remain
unpublished owing to corporate policy at American Express.

Responsibilities:

- Implement standardized development processes
- Reduce Technology related costs
- Train and hire technologiests
- Design and implementation of an architecture consisting LAMP, solr and Hadoop
- Design systems for efficient crawl, analyse and report efficiently from the internet.

Achievements:

- Desined an highly efficient system architecture, which was able to bring down report
load time from 120 seconds to sub seconds. This also reduced the operating costs by
around two thirds of the original cost incurred.






Channel Intelligence:

Period: April 2005 May 2012

Role: Director IT and Chief Security Officer

Responsibilities:

- Managing IT resources and staff
- Developed, implemented and managed PCI level 2 compliance
- Implemented technology portion of SAS70 compliance
- Managed maintained and migrated 7 datacenters with more than 600 servers on east
and west coast as well as an Asian and European office connected by private layer 2
networks.
- Personally managed linux servers and network resources.
- Managed QA and Release Engineering to prevent unplanned production outages due
to code release.
- Managed high volume clients web sites, fulfillment processes, and advertising
intelligence for Cisco, MTV, Comedy Central, BJ's Wholesale, Target, McGraw-Hill,
Sun, GE, etc.
- Designed and implemented a 720 Core Hadoop cluster for processing data for google
marketplace, tracking user clicks, etc.

Achievements:

- Reduced technology related costs by 50% through contract negotiations and moving
to higher quality/lower cost facilities.
- Helped in transition of the technology once Google acquired CI in Feb 2013.
