Let`s say you want to crochet a really cute Mary Jane.
or a ballet slipper.

or any baby shoe that`s NOT a boot. Well, you`d need a pattern, right? One that is simple, all purpose,
and never fails to have that WOW factor when you`re finished.
Never fear! I have you covered!
In order to begin, you need to start with the basic pattern for the sole of your bootie.
Basic Baby Shoe Sole
Materials Needed:
Size F (3.750mm) crochet hook (Newborn)
Size G (4.00mm) crochet hook (0-3 months)
Size G (4.25mm) crochet hook (3-6 months)
Worsted weight yarn in any color
Rnd 1: Ch 12, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 7, hdc in next, 2 hdc in next, 5 hdc in end ch.
Working down opposite side of starting ch, 2 hdc in next, hdc in next, sc in next 7, 2 sc in next.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in first sc of last rnd, sc in next 10 sts, (2 sc in next, sc in next) 3 times, sc in next 9, 2 sc in
next, sc in next.
Rnd 3: 2 sc in next, sc in next 11, (2 sc in next, sc in next) twice, (sc in next, 2 sc in next) twice, sc in
next 11, 2 sc in next, sc in next, sl st in first sc of rnd, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 4: Working in Back Loops only for this rnd, 1 sc in each st around, sl st in first sc. Fasten off if
working another color for the instep. If you are working these all in the same color, move to the next
step.

When you have completed the sole, you have four more rounds between you and absolute
adorableness!
If you have been following this blog for any length of time-then you know already I HATE TO
COUNT. That said, my pattern is a little off the rails as far as traditional patterns` go. But once you
get it down and practice it a few times you shouldn`t have any problems at all pulling off your own
show stoppers!
So let`s get started!
Decrease stitches used:
*yo, insert the hook into the first stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw
through 2 loops on the hook, repeat from * for next stitch, yarn over and draw through all remaining
loops on hook.
*Insert hook into the first stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, repeat from * for next stitch,
yarn over and draw through the remaining loops on the hook.

When you finish row 4, sc back to the heel and then simply finish off and you`re done!
Add embellishments such as flowers or faces (OR BOTH!) to turn up the cute factor.

If you have your eye on making Mary Jane`s, they will require a strap.
To attach a strap, find your center point once again from the toe top and count back 5 or 6 stitches.
Attach your yarn with a slip stitch and chain 1.
Sc in the next stitch, ch 1
7 fhdc (Foundation Half Double Crochet: yo, insert hook into 1st sc, yo, pull up a loop, yo, draw
through 1 loop, yo, draw through all three loops on hook.)
Chain 4, sl st to create a loop for a button and finish off.
Don't forget to alternate sides when making the straps so you don't end up making two left shoes or two
right shoes!

How do you get the back higher? (the heel)

If you wanted to get the back of the shoe higher you could crochet another three rounds
along with the strap.
Attach your yarn in the same place as where you want your strap to go (approximately 5 or
6 stitches back from the center of the toe top).
Chain 1, sc around the heel until you get to the same stitch on the opposite side of the shoe.
Chain an appropriate amount to make a strap. (Remember, you will crochet on a loop for
the button later.)
Sc in the second chain from the hook and all the way back around the heel to the opposite
side of the shoe. Stop when you get to the place where you joined. Ch 1 and turn.
Sc all the way back across the heel and up your strap. When you come to the end of the
strap, chain enough to make the button loop and then slip stitch and finish off.
Weave in your ends and there you have it-a shoe with a higher back!

Sorry about that. I posted each of those videos on the same page so they go in order from

These will fit infants. Depending on how tightly you crochet, they should fit a 0-6 month
range.
