Easter, which coincides with Springtime, always comes with the goodness of growth and harvest, whether in nature or in spiritual life. After the resur- rection of Jesus Christ, the community of believers grew in number and in faith in God. The book of the Acts of the Apostles relate to us how the first commu- nity of faith grew through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the preaching and witnessing of the apostles and the loving way of life of the believers. Their num- ber increased everyday and the Christian way of life spread from the small community in Israel to a worldwide phenomenon.
In our own time we also see the growth, in numbers and in the way of life, of those who receive the Lord in the sacraments and in actively participating in spiri- tual activities. During this Easter season, we rejoice as a parish as we celebrate the many important events that bring great spiritual harvests, such as the adults from RCIA who received the sacraments during Easter Vigil. Joy is more intensified with the celebra- tion of the First Communion for some of our children in the parish. Jesus, who loves the little children, gives Himself to them in a very special way, through His Body and Blood, and desires to make His home in their hearts. This Sunday, the gift of the Holy Spirit will be received by some of our young people through the Sacrament of Confirmation. These young people have made a personal decision to receive the grace of the Spirit and take their faith more seriously and maturely.
All of these are spiritual blessings of Easter harvest. But the best manifestation of Easter blessing is the increase of personal faith in the Risen Lord in each one of us, the enjoyment of the gift of peace through forgiveness and the beauty of life shown in our love for one another. THIRD WINDOWSt. James the Greater, another of Christs apostles, is credited with bringing the faith to Spain in 36 AD. The lightning shaft, cloud and star recall the title conferred on James and John by our Lord Himself: Sons of Thunder. James is shown in pilgrims garb, with staff and knapsack, be- cause his shrine at Compostella, Spain, near the sea, rep- resented by a fish, was one of Europes most celebrated places of pilgrimage. He died by the sword at Jerusalem. (Italicized words refer to the symbols seen in the win- dow.) Stained Glass Windows Memorial Day Mass Memorial Day Monday, May 26th
