Course Description

Algebra 2 is a continuation of the mastery of the standards of calculating using algebraic rules introduced in
Algebra 1. This also includes connecting mathematical concepts, reasoning, problem solving, and
communicating mathematical concepts.

The student will solve inequalities, use formulas, write equations of lines, graph lines, and solve systems of
equations. They will work further with polynomials using exponent rules, factoring, and solving. Students will
use scientific notation, learn how to add/subtract/multiply/divide rational algebraic expressions, and solve
fractional equations. They will use basic properties of radicals and imaginary numbers. Students will solve
equations the quadratic formula and completing the square. Students will analyze and evaluate statistical data.
They will problem-solve using basic probability concepts. They will use basic trigonometric functions and
Pythagorean theorem to solve right triangle and story problems.

Domain Standards

1. Students will use numbers, number sense, and number relationships.

2. Students will use a variety of tools and techniques of measurement in a problem-solving situation.
3. Students will use algebraic methods to investigate, model, and interpret patterns involving numbers and
graphs.

Performance Standards

Advanced. In a complex problem-solving situation, using appropriate tools and technology, 11th-grade students
work independently to write, model, graph, and evaluate functions, equations, inequalities, and systems to reach
a solution or make connections. Students analyze and represent information. They provide extensive evidence
for inferences justifications of solutions.

Proficient. In a problem-solving situation, using appropriate tools and technology, 11th-grade students work
independently to write, model, graph, and evaluate functions, equations, inequalities, and systems to reach a
solution or make connections.
