(PVOP)
focused on developing a pool of volunteers
trained in Total Disaster Risk Management
and exposed in the area of humanitarian
relief efforts for communities stricken by
disasters
aimed at inculcating the spirit of
volunteerism
providing a platform for PETRONAS
employees to contribute their time, skills
and experience for the benefit of the
community through specialised
humanitarian relief programmes conducted
by partners such as Mercy Malaysia
testament of PETRONAS commitment
towards sustainable development of the
global communities

STATISTICS
Since its launch on April 1 2005 , the PVOP has:
enlisted over 350 members of PETRONAS
staff
deployed or trained volunteers via
programmes conducted by PVOP or in
collaboration with MERCY Malaysia
Over 100 PVOP members deployed on
various humanitarian missions, locally and
internationally
Approximately 150 volunteers have also
undergone specialized trainings

Proposed School Preparedness Programme
The objectives of the SPP are to:
Promote a culture of disaster preparedness
Increase capacity of schools and students to respond to disasters
Target beneficiaries
Secondary school students
Teachers (primary & secondary schools) (also includes School
Counsellors and lecturers from Teachers College)
The SPP activities are:
School Watching Workshops
School Response Preparedness Workshops
The activities are implemented by the School Preparedness Team a
team of MERCY Malaysia staff and volunteers.

School Preparedness Programme
School Watching Workshops raise awareness about disasters and disaster preparedness
using the school watching technique (a hands-on risk assessment methodology)
School Response Preparedness Workshops form and train student taskforces to respond
in the event of a disaster or emergency.
PVOP involvement
A member of the PVOP participated as a trainer in the pilot School Watching Workshop in
Muar (November 2007).
However MERCY Malaysia has conducted:
6 SWW for students
8 SWW Training of Trainers for teachers
The total number of participants
Students 297 Teachers 406 Total 703
