it after 50
years in the
business
SHORTBACK and sides, a num-
ber one or something a little
more elaborate?
One thing is for sure, if foot-
ball superstar David Beckham
visited Barry hed be wise to go
to A&H Asprou, Holton Road,
for the latest on-trend style.
For 50 years A&H Asprou, the
Bassett end of Holton Road,
has been ensuring the men of
Barry look good about town.
For generations the barber-
shop has served as a social hub
where patrons swap and learn
the towns stories while solv-
ing the worlds problems from
a barbers chair.
Former owner and award-
winner Andreas Asprou, 69,
said: It was fantastic in those
days because we were very
busy. The styles changed a lot
and the good thing about it was
that we did a lot of shaves. We
used proper cut throats not
blades.
Andreas added: The best
time of my life was when I won
the cup youve proved to the
public you know your job and
youve made them happy.
The barbershop has served
all walks of life, from promi-
nent professionals such as
doctors, lawyers and judges to
everyday folk.
The family business has, for
half a century, been making it
their business to ensure males,
from young children to senior
citizens, look the business
when they depart the shop.
Mop tops and mohawks
theyve seen it all. The team
can do whatever style you
want putting their expert
skills to the test while engag-
ing in some friendly chat.
The team also cater for the
pre-wedding crew with pam-
pering, not exclusively a ladies
domain. Hot shave, a cool hair-
style and some strong coffee
all help with walking up the
aisle.
When Harry took over from
his proud father it was an end
of an era for the shop.
It has grown into a tradi-
tional gents hairstylist where
customers can feel relaxed in a
friendly atmosphere with am-
bience.
The shop has
gone through many
changes includ-
ing having the well-
known ladies salon
Tangles and then
finally going back
to its roots to be a
traditional gents
hairstylist.
With the shops nostalgia
comes a rich history of people
and stories.
On Friday, February 7, A&H
Asprou Barbers will be cel-
ebrating the 50th anniversary
of trading.
The shop has been a long-
time supporter of Sully-based
family hospice Ty Hafan rais-
ing more than 1,000 over the
years to aid the charity in its
invaluable work.
And the family business has
seen generations of men walk
in and out of the door, also

friends.

43, said:

ing like a different person.
Andreas Asprou, his son
Harry Asprou, family, and
