UNICHAT
INTRODUCTION
When students first enter the University life they except to instanty meet new people and make friends straigh away. However that is not the
case as you rarely get an social opportunities in lectures, the only to meet new people is through joining University social clubs. Introducing
Unichat, This app takes advantage of modern day socialising for example facebook chat and skype, and removes the unknown chat request.
People who use this app will know that they dont know anyone, but thats what so great! Everyone is in the same position and can
communicate effectively through it. The login with specify your major, interests and hobbies and will connect with people who have common
interests. This match will help Auckland University students to interact and gives them an opportunity to socialise with other students.
3. BUSINESS SECTION
3.1 Vision
To make the University of Auckland a more enjoyable environment for students through social media and make better and stronger
connections.
3.2 Industry Analysis: Social media industry
Industry: Social media industry, Unichat belongs in the social media industry and it is an mobile application similar to the likes of facebook
messsage.

so therefore the threat of new entrants is high. It
is easy to entry as it doesnt take much time to
develop an social media application and it doesnt
cost a lot to development the application.

Overall attractiveness of the industry: The social media industry overall is a unattractive industry as Customers/ Students of the University of
Auckland has many options to choose from. It is a very easy industry to join so therefore the competition within the industry would be fierce.
3.3 Customers and Thei r Needs
Unichats customers are students who study at the University of Auckland. When students first enter University most students will say that
they are excited to meet new people and make new friends, however that is not the case as students realize that there is no real interaction
during lectures. The only chance to really socialise is through joining clubs and through social media. The students needs a social media

application specifically purposed to make new friends at University which could lead to form study groups and make the University life more
enjoyable and socieable.
3.4 THE PRODUCT AND SERVICE
Unichat is a social media application for designed to connect students to make new friends, form study groups and avoid being left out. The
application is similar to facebook messenger as it allows students to communicate with each other easily and instantly. It allows students to
communicate with other students that studies the same paper. For example a student who studies Statistic 101 can log into Unichat and
instantly find another student who also studies the paper, the two students can communicate through Unichat and form a study group
together or assist each other with their learning. Unichat will fulfil the needs of Students who wants to make new friends at the University of
Auckland but will also make learning more enjoyable and socieable.
3.5 Suppliers and Partners
The suppliers of Unichat would be anyone who assists creating and developing the application such as various programming developing
companies. The partner of Unichat would be the University of Auckland as the application must connect data base with the Universities system
to access what students study. The programmers supply the application to Unichat as they develop the application and will partner up with the
University to connect database. Another potential supplier of Unichat could be web designers as Unichat could also be an web application to
service more students who doesn't own a smart phone that can access applications.

The business strategy employed by Unichat is Focused Low Cost. Unichat's competitive scope focuses on the students from the University of
Auckland which is a narrow market. The cost strategy employed by Unichat is low cost as it will be free of access for students, similar to
facebook.
3.7 Value Chain Activity: Value chai n for Unichat
The most important value chain activity for Unichat would be technology development and research and development. For Unichat to
function, the application must research and gather data of what students studies so the application can make connections between students
who studies the same course or have similar hobbies or interest. After gathering data, it must be processed. The information will be used to
developed so it'll make the application easy to use for students so it'll be more preferred than the likes of facebook. With good research and
development it will make Unichat more user friendly and with the value added it will likely make the University of Auckland an more enjoyable
and social environment.

Decision support system- Unichat will consistent use the decision support system as they constantly need data of students from the University
of Auckland to keep the application updated.
Customer relationship system- Unichat must gather information of what students from the University of Auckland wants from the application
in order to keep them competitive against other social media applications such as facebook and skype.
Customer service system- Unichat wil use this system to ensure that the students from the University of Auckland are satisfied with the
application and it will be a trusted service. This will be measured by key performance indicator to help the system.

CONCLUSION
The overall idea of Unichat is a bright idea for Student from the University of Auckland
however it is not a good business idea as the social media industry is unattractive. The social
media industry already has dominant applications and services such as facebook and skype
to promote communication between students through the social media. Through
information system value has been added to Unichat to provide a high quality product.
