Network Manager, an advanced network management system for
managing the entire network and all of its connections and services.
Thanks to its small size, the Tellabs 8605 switch is optimal for
service providers access networks at small traffic aggregation
points or cell sites. A diverse set of different access and uplink
interfaces offer cost-efficient alternatives for backhaul and provide
flexibility for the future mobile evolution. Versatile service
capabilities, including support for TDM, ATM, HDLC and Ethernet
connections as well as IP routing, enable the migration of 2G TDM
and 3G ATM, Ethernet or IP based networks into a single network
infrastructure. The Tellabs 8605 switch has packet based
forwarding with QoS support enabling network optimization for voice
and data services.
Features and Benefits
Small size
The height of the unit is 1RU, which enables cost-effective
installations in access and cell sites where the rack space is limited.
Wide temperature range
The operating temperature of the Tellabs 8605 switch is -40C to
+65C, allowing installations in cabinets without climate control.
Robust synchronization
Mobile networks are very sensitive to synchronization. Traditionally
synchronization has been delivered using TDM signals, but new
packet based transport requires packet based synchronization
delivery. The Tellabs 8605 switch supports both TDM and packet
based synchronization techniques.
Cost effective migration from E1 and T1 to Ethernet
Most of the existing mobile base stations and Node Bs use E1/T1
interfaces. The Tellabs 8605 switch provides a cost-efficient way of
converting a mobile access network from an E1/T1 TDM network to
an Ethernet based packet network.
Access device for Ethernet and IP networks
The Tellabs 8605 switch provides the necessary features and
interfaces to support Ethernet and IP based packet networking. It is
a future-proof solution providing a transport solution for both the
existing and the future Ethernet and IP-based mobile networks.
Multi-Service support
The Tellabs 8605 switch supports the transport of voice and data
services in GSM, CDMA, CDMA-2000 EV-DO and WCDMA R99/R5
networks. Advanced quality of service features enable the
differentiation of real-time voice and video services from premium
and best effort data services.
Multi-Protocol support
GSM, CDMA, CDMA-2000 EV-DO and WCDMA R99/R5 use TDM,
HDLC, ATM, Ethernet and IP protocols for carrying user and
signaling traffic. The Tellabs 8605 switch supports all these
alternatives, enabling the convergence of existing networks into a
single Ethernet and IP infrastructure.
Quality of Service testing in packet networks
The Tellabs 8600 system has a unique packet loop test feature that
enables the testing of quality of service parameters including delay,
jitter, throughput and connectivity. Delay and jitter testing is non-
intrusive, therefore it can be performed even if the service is alive.
Test endpoints are selected using the Tellabs 8000 manager
without the need for additional hardware or site visits. The Packet
Loop Test feature allows the user to confirm that the packet network
meets the QoS requirements of voice, video and data services.
Advanced packet network management
All Tellabs 8600 system network elements are managed by the
Tellabs 8000 manager. The Tellabs 8000 manager provides GUI-
based tools for network and element configuration, multi-service
connection provisioning, performance monitoring, fault
management and QoS testing. The network and services are
documented in an open database that enables the management of
large networks containing thousands of base stations.
