KYLE CARNEY/The Sun
People lined up to get some honey at the Busy Bee Farm stand at the opening of the Burlington County Farmers Market on May 17.
Tori Price, owner of the Busy Bee Farm, runs one of the original stands from eight years ago when the market began. I have been here
every year, and I plan on coming back as long as I can, she said.

town hall
BY KYLE CARNEY
The Sun
It has been nearly seven years
since the Moorestown Township
Council has met in its own cham-
bers. That streak ended May 19,
when the new Moorestown Town
Hall opened its doors for the first
time.
Folks at home, dont adjust
your television, Mayor Chris
Chiacchio joked. Were not in
the IT room anymore. Today is an
extraordinary day. This starts a
new chapter in the history of
Moorestown. The library and
town hall will shape the future of
this town for generations to
come.
Chiacchio was not the only
council member to praise the new
building. In fact, every council
member spoke highly of the
building and what it means for
the town.
This building is the result of
many hands, Councilman Greg
Newcomer said. The residents,

4 THE MOORESTOWN SUN MAY 28-JUNE 3, 2014
Grand opening set for June
the designers, the township staff
and everyone in between have
made this a place to serve our
childrens children.
Council thanked the Ragan De-
sign Group, Sambe Construction
Co. and Greyhawk for their ef-
forts in making this project hap-
pen. The final cost of the build-
ings comes to $16.2 million, which
includes the expenses for the first
design and moving costs.
The township received the tem-
porary certificate of occupancy
on Friday, May 16 for Town Hall,
but is still waiting for the furni-
ture for the new library, which is
delaying that opening.
I began to wonder if it was re-
ally going to happen, Council-
woman Victoria Napolitano said.
It began to feel like a dream, but
today its a reality.
The opening of the new Town
Hall closes a chapter in the histo-
ry of Moorestown. And while the
council was relieved at that time
being over, it did not forget to
thank those who have provided
help along the way.
We couldnt have done this
without the support of our school
board, Chiacchio said. They,
along with our neighboring
towns, provided us with rooms
and buildings to conduct our
business over these past seven
years, and we would like to thank
them all.
Council members were not the
only ones at the meeting who
were impressed and relieved at
the opening of the new Town
Hall. A number of residents took
the opportunity to congratulate
and applaud the new building as
well.
The official grand opening of
the building will not occur until
the library is complete, which
should be sometime in June.
In other news:
The issue of litter at te
Moorestown recreation fields was
discussed. There have been bot-
tles and trash left on the fields
after many of the tournaments
and games. Councilman Phil Gar-
wood suggested the players stay
to clean the fields after the games.
Deputy Mayor Stacey Jordan
is working on a smoking ban
campaign with the Girl Scout
troops.

W
elcome to the beach! Were
so glad you came. I see you
have six people in your
party this afternoon. Will that be
smoking or non-smoking?
Remember that question smoking
or non-smoking? Seems like ages ago
that, every time you went out to eat,
the hostess at your favorite restaurant
would ask you that question.
Would you like to negatively im-
pact your health and those around
you, or would you like to breathe un-
sullied air? Maybe that would have
been a better question.
Now, it seems like that question
might be back again, but at a different
place than you might think outside
of all places, at the beach.
Last week, a state Senate committee
approved a bill that would ban smok-
ing at beaches and public parks
throughout the state. The committee
amended the bill, which the state As-
sembly passed in March, to add a sec-
tion to allow towns to set aside up to 20
percent of a beach or park as a smok-
ing area.
Yep. A smoking area. Outside.
Seems funny, doesnt it?
New Jersey, like the country as a
whole, is taking a major step to control
smoking, even though it isnt a con-
trolled substance. And good for New
Jersey.
Studies continue to show or,
rather, they show even more so how
harmful second-hand smoke is, and as
such, it is right and proper for govern-
ment entities to further control when
and where smoking can occur.
Smoking is still legal in the state, of
course, so basically, New Jersey is tak-
ing the stance that it doesnt care if
you harm yourself as long as you
dont harm others.
Good for New Jersey, and good for
every other place that is passing simi-
lar bills.
People who travel to the beach, a
playground or a park do so to enjoy the
outdoors in all its glory. Nearby smok-
ing, to non-smokers, can ruin that ex-
perience and affect their health. It is
only right and fair, then, that our gov-
ernment protects non-smokers from
that which is harmful to them and in
which they are choosing not to partici-
pate.
Now if only tobacco wasnt such a
big business and didnt bring us so
much tax revenue, we could outlaw it
all together.
Smoking or non-smoking?
Thats a question that you could be asked once again
Your thoughts

expansion of smoking bans? Share your
thoughts on this, and other topics, in a let-
ter to the editor.
Promise of completion
of Town Hall project was kept
When Stacey Jordan and Chris Chiac-
chio ran for Town Council in 2010, a prom-
ise was made to the voters of Moorestown
that the Town Hall project would finally be
completed after years of waiting.
In 2012, as the process was beginning to
move forward with a final plan for Town
Hall, Phil Garwood and Victoria Napoli-
tano made a promise to the people of our
municipality that they would continue the
work started by Council to see this project
through to completion.
On May 19, these promises were kept.
This day marks a new beginning here in
Moorestown, as the new Town Hall opens
its doors to residents and, for the first time
in seven years, the Moorestown Town
Council held a meeting back on Second
Street.
Residents are now able to pay their prop-
erty tax and water bills at Town Hall, and
our municipal employees are officially
moved into their new offices. This facility
boasts state-of-the-art security and comput-
er systems, utilizes solar panels as a cost-ef-
ficient supplement to the boiler system and
will have a number of sustainability fea-
tures, including a green roof, two rain gar-
dens and an underground cistern to collect
rainwater run-off to be used for lawn irri-
gation. Additionally, the new Council
Chambers are equipped to record, and
eventually broadcast, all meetings to the
public.
Within the next few weeks, the
Moorestown Library will also be moving
into its new home within the new Munici-
pal Complex. Its portion of the building in-
cludes radiant floor heat for areas such as
the childrens library and has a permanent
air-scrubbing system with ultraviolet light
to kill bacteria and prevent odor problems
like those experienced in the old library.
Instead of spending millions to renovate
two aging and damaged structures,
Moorestown was able to turn the unfortu-
nate loss of the old Town Hall into an op-
portunity. We built a new Municipal Com-
plex that brings our town solidly into the
21st century and were able to have the en-
tire project completed on time and under
the original estimated budget. We enter this
building knowing that it is an investment
that will last for years to come, and is one
we are proud to put forward as an example
of the Moorestown spirit.

Stacey Jordan, Councilman Phil Garwood
and Councilwoman Victoria Napolitano

CALENDAR
Continued from page 8
The weekend of May 17
marked a milestone for the boys
eighth-grade lacrosse team, as it
was the last opportunity to play
in the Moorestown Lacrosse Fes-
tival. The team started the compe-
tition against a solid Rumson-
Fair Haven squad. The weather
was cool and the field was wet but
the boys came out on fire with
Trevor Jones recording a hat
trick and Peter LaDelfa and Ryan
Pozega burying two goals apiece.
Josh Fauvell took a great pass
from Steven Weissman to record
his first of many goals of the day
and long-pole defenseman Justin
Ramos got into the scoring with
an impressive bounce shot as the
Quakers mopped up the visitors
by a score of 9-1. Dan "The Man"
Rohrbach stood tall between the
pipes all weekend long, filling in
for the injured Max Blank and
made some highlight saves along
the way.
Next the boys faced a much big-
ger team from Cherry Hill but it
became clear early on in the con-
test that the home team was more
skilled and balanced. Despite a
tough knee injury to Jones mid-
way through the game, the boys
rallied and easily won the contest
by a score of 7-1 with goals by
Jones, Stephen Goralski, Ramos,
Fauvell, JT Lumley and LaDelfa.
Next the squad took on a very
skilled Black Lab team. Although
the Labs scored the first goal of
the game in the first few minutes,
the boys, including long poles
Reid Greer, Jaxon Zaorski and
Frankie Pryor, dug deep. Even
with two goals from LaDelfa off of
pretty assists from Fauvell and
Pozega, time ran out and the
Quakers fell 3-2.
The final game of the festival
was against a very skilled
Crooked Crosse team from Penn-
sylvania. The boys found them-
selves down by two early in the
game until they got a great unas-
sisted bounce shot goal from
Dante Lucarini to cut the margin
in half and give new life to the
team. The two teams traded goals
with Pozega, LaDelfa, Fauvell
and Kevin Travis scoring to make
it 5-5 with less than 10 minutes
left. Despite solid faceoff work by
Sean Carden and Josh Buck and
aggressive midfield play by Max
Haller, the home team wasn't able
to prevail and lost 9-5. A shout out
goes to Kade Chrostowski and
Ryan Finley who have been on
the injured reserve for several
weeks.
On Sunday, the boys were back
in action with the final league
game of the season against Upper
Merion. They ended with an ex-
clamation point winning by the
score of 15-2. Moorestown had 13
different players record at least
one point, including Rohrbach
from his own goal. Ten players
had two points, including defense-
men Bobby Garrison and Judah
Hicks. Lumley, LaDelfa, Pozega
and Fauvell recorded three or
more points each to lead the rout.

Lacrosse captain breaks
goal-scoring record
In a 20-11 Friends Schools
League victory over Westtown on
May 6, Moorestown Friends
School senior captain Noelle
Smith broke the girls lacrosse ca-
reer goal-scoring record. Her
eight goals brought her total to
204, which surpassed the record
of 201 held by Sarah Edwards
Beeson 96.
This is a tremendous accom-
plishment for Noelle, said MFS
coach Paige Dougherty. She has
been a team leader for our pro-
gram, and this record also reflects
the hard work of the teammates
around her.
Smith was named First Team
All-Friends Schools League in
2012 and 2013. As of May 7, the
Foxes are 7-4, 4-3 in the FSL and
have clinched a league playoff
berth. Smith will attend Trinity
College next year. The Bantams
recently won their fourth consec-
utive New England Small College
Athletic Conference champi-
onship and won the NCAA Divi-
sion III championship in 2012.
Moorestown Friends School is
in its 56th year of sponsoring
girls lacrosse. Lacrosse pioneer
and South Jersey coaching leg-
end Floss Brudon introduced the
sport in 1958, the same year
Collingswood, Merchantville and
Moorestown high schools also
began play.
The Moorestown Friends girls
lacrosse program highlights in-
clude one state championship,
four state finals appearances and
eight undefeated seasons.
Noelle Smith, of Moorestown,
is the daughter of Kieran and
Nicole Dryden-Smith.

Friends of mine had been looking for a home in Moorestown for nearly a year w/ very specific criteria. A home
walking distance fromdowntown they could customize to make their own. I knew there was a possibility the owner
might want to sell this home, so I made contact to let them know I had a potential buyer. When we through we
could see the home could suit their needs. They had the vision to see what this home had the potential to be & fell
in love with it. We began negotiations while Canton Custom Homes began pricing renovations. Everything was
worked out, and now we get to save a beautiful home on Moorestowns Main St by restoring this gemto its original
glory w/ all the modern bells & whistles.

The Moorestown Board of Edu-
cation meeting on May 20 served
as a time to reflect and recognize.
New Superintendent Timothy
Rehm began the meeting by dis-
cussing his new contract and vi-
sion for the future. This was the
first meeting held since Rehm
was named the permanent super-
intendent.
I am honored that the Board
of Education and the community
have selected me as the superin-
tendent for the district, Rehm
said. I am committed to continu-
ing the educational excellence
this community has come to ex-
pect, and I am pleased that the
community has put their faith in
me to do the job.
Rehms contract is a standard
A5, three-year agreement that
will commence July 1. The execu-
tive county superintendent ap-
proved the contract before the
board approved it.
We wanted to secure his con-
tract expeditiously, said Don
Mishler, president of the board.
A lot of towns are looking for su-
perintendents, and we knew
Rehm fit in perfectly with what
we wanted.
In keeping with the theme of
the meeting, the board also ac-
knowledged staff members who
will be retiring this year. Nearly
all retirees were present to accept
their certificates, along with the
applause of those in attendance.
It was important to us to show
our gratitude to the teachers and
staff members who were retiring
this year, Mishler said. They
have all done a wonderful job in
their careers at Moorestown, and
they deserved all the praise and
applause they got.
The last bit of recognition
went to student achievements.
The board recognized the various
clubs and teams that received
honors this year, including the
state champion boys swimming
team and robotics team.
The robotics team was present
at the meeting and gave a brief
demonstration of some of the
work it has been doing in the hall
before the meeting. Board mem-
bers and attendees alike were
able to play with the gadgets.
I had a blast with the robotics
team, Mishler said. The gadgets
they brought showcase just how
hard the students have worked
this year.
In other news:
The board approved the sum-
mer programs issued by the
Moorestown Township Public
School District.
The board approved changes
to the student lunch programs in
private schools for disabled stu-
dents. Schools included Yale
School Southeast, Garfield Park
Academy and Archway Schools.
The next Board of Education
meeting will take place on Tues-
day, June 24.

Students invited to Senior
Scholars Program at school
This summer, students enter-
ing grades seven, eight and nine
are invited to be a part of the Sen-
ior Scholars Program at
Moorestown Friends School. The
Senior Scholars Program is de-
signed to give students, both from
MFS and other area schools, the
opportunity to engage in a fun,
creative and academically rich
experience during the summers
leading up to high school.
For students interested in the
performing arts, Senior Scholars
opportunities include Singer-
Songwriter Workshop and Musi-
cal Theatre Audition Preparation
Workshop. Both are taught by
Martha Howard, a professional
voice coach who has worked with
performers for more than 25
years.
In collaboration with the
Singer-Songwriter Workshop, stu-
dents enrolled in the Video and
Audio Production Workshop will
spend three weeks with MFS Arts
Department Chair Brian Howard,
producing a music video using
Pro Tools, Logic Pro and iMovie.
For students with a passion for
writing, publishing or photogra-
phy, Senior Scholars offers Jour-
nalism and Publishing: Making
an Online Magazine with English
teacher Andrea Martin. Another
creative arts program, Exploring
Three-Dimensional Art, invites
young artists to spend a week
building a 3D art portfolio with
MFS ceramics teacher David
Gamber, who is also a teaching
artist at Perkins Center for the
Arts and holds an M.F.A. in ce-
ramics from Temple Universitys
Tyler School of Art.
Two other programs offer
preparation and practice for pop-
ular high school competitions:
mock trial and robotics. Under
the direction of MFS history
teacher Clark Thomson, mock
trial scholars will have the oppor-
tunity to learn about the legal
system and participate in a com-
prehensive mock trial simula-
tion. Similarly, the Science, Robot-
ics and Engineering program pro-
vides students with significant
experience competing on a high
school-level team.
Students will receive a recom-
mendation letter from their pro-
gram teacher that can be sent to
the middle school or high school
of their choice.
For more information about
these and other programs, please
