Do Now (3-5 minutes) Silent, short, pen to paper, complete w/out teacher direction, preview or review
Students will label on the map where the Armenian, Guatemalan, Rwandan and Darfur genocides took place. (relates to questions 11-13 on the assessment)
Opening (3-5 minutes) The Hook, Preview Objective, Connection to Prior Knowledge. Students will state the lessons objective. We will review the Genocide: Darfur, Rwanda and Guatemala, and make a claim Armenian genocide handout completed by students.

I will give students an opportunity to read instructions for the reading/handout. (this will correlate to the writer portion of their assessment) I do: 1.Students will listen with 100%. 2. students will follow along reading the directions and asking any questions if they are confused.
1.Cold call students to repeat directions. We do (guided practice): 1.We will read the article silently.
We do (guided practice): 1. Students will read and annotate the article. Cold call students for answers to the example. You do (@ Bats): 1. I will make sure there are no questions and walk with purpose to assure students are on task and completing the assignment correctly. 2. I will call upon students to share their answers to the handout.
You do (@ Bats): 1. Students will silently read and answer the questions from the handout. 2. students will complete a T.P.S. about question six on the handout.
Exit Ticket Students will complete a document analysis handout. (relates to reader portion of assessment) .

We will review the essential question. We will then go over the homework instructions for the Genocide around the world handout (assessment questions 11-13, 15 and writer option 2)
