Specific details of the project/s to be delivered, with any
associated milestones and targets.

The final production in our current NPO artistic plan.
Thanks to an Arts Council England Exceptional Award, in
Spring 2015 Birmingham Opera Company will join forces
with the CBSO to mount Michael Tippetts The Ice Break.
A piece about intergenerational and inter racial identity,
fragmentation of society and the ultimate cohesion of
humanity across all boundaries we believe its time has
come. We are one of only 4 companies given this award
which is to create work of national and international
profile and significance.

The work will carry an associated programme of
engagement and activity BREAKING THE ICE Festival
partnering other arts and community organisations
across Birmingham. This January-April 2015

In association with the

Coordination of BREAKING THE ICE Festival Conference
(working title: Opera, Tippett and Culture), which will
make up part of the associated programme of events.

Administration assistance and co-ordination for
BREAKING THE ICE associated events across
Birmingham.


Purpose of the placement What will the intern gain from the placement, to be
described in terms of skills, knowledge, experience ,
competencies and networks to be developed.

Wide exposure to artistic management hands on.
Wide exposure to event curation, funding, delivery and
documentation.
Flexibility to mould/weight the internship to suit
successful candidate preferred direction.
Excellent engagement with wider Birmingham and arts
organisation in nationally profiled project.
Training and delivery of discreet project beginning to end.

Each candidate contributes greatly to the work of
Birmingham Opera Company. We are a very small team
(Executive Director, Company Administrator and Artistic
Director) and as such there is much opportunity for the
candidate to contribute directly to company outputs
listed above.

We have the opportunity to run an additional strand of
BREAKING THE ICE festival in 2014-2015. The intern
would be instrumental in the delivery of this additional
strand.
