Spring 2014 SPECIAL HONDURAS REPORT
Dear Friends:
The heart of our ministry has always been on the mission field helping, encouraging our missionaries as they carry
out the great commission of the church to reach the world with the Gospel! When I have the opportunity to travel to
and immerse myself in the mission field I am most aware of the ministry that God as placed in our hands.
We had a truly wonderful visit to the country of Honduras. It has been our intention to visit Honduras for several
years, but the Lord never allowed the TRIP to take place - I believe I understand a little of how Paul felt when he was
forbidden to go to Asia. This year, I was able to spend 12 days in the Central American Country. I organized the trip
at the request of Pastor Curt Thomason (Calvary Baptist Church). He wanted to visit a missionary out of his church,
Bro. Marcial Pavon, and also visit a new work in which his church was making an investment. In addition, I planned
an overdue visit to our friends Trent and Wendy Horton who have a church and childrens home near LaPaz.
The capital city of Tegucigalpa is a relatively modern city with a clearly defined cast system (the very wealthy and the
very poor). The people are kind and welcoming. The airport is said to be the most dangerous in the world because of
the shorten runway and nearby mountains. Catholicism has a strong hold on these Hondurans although in reality to
many it is just a tradition and not a heart conviction. It seemed to me that many in Tegus see no need for the Gospel as
they enjoy their conveniences. Tegucigalpa has the highest per capita murder rate in the world. Although difficult and
costly, much potential remains in this capital city for church planting and evangelism. A great battle rages here and
across the country trying to keep the doctrine of the church and believers in line with the Word of God. The
charismatic movement has a strong hold in Honduras. PLEASE PRAY FOR THOSE MISSIONARIES LABORING
IN HONDURAS!
The Hortons are located more in the country and Bro. Trent has a working farm complete with cows, pigs, turkeys,
chickens and more. Their Childrens home had 13 children I believe when we visited. I really wanted to put a couple
of the little girls in my bag and bring them home with me. The nearby town of LaJamani was friendly and inviting. La
Paz and Comayagua were relatively close and much larger. Neither La Paz or Comayagua have a Baptist Church
proclaiming the Gospel. There is a nearby US Air base which allows you to see a few more Americans than other
places in the country. We visited a catholic church there that is several hundred years old. I was impressed with a
working clock and bell chimes that is over 900 years old still working, still chiming right on time. Isnt that how the
Gospel is always on time, always chiming!! Even when the world thinks it is outdated its really RIGHT ON TIME
and JUST WHAT THEY NEED! Honduras needs the GOSPEL!!
I see a great potential for future trips to the area with much opportunity for evangelism. Schools and communities in
the nearby mountains are open to preaching. We visited a school with about 600 students (split sessions) and were
invited back to have classroom time and assembly time. I would like to take a group in to evangelize the schools during
the day and hold tent/brush arbor meetings at night. Please be praying as we consider ways to walk through these
open doors.
