INFORMATION BROCHURE

Admission to Two Year B.Ed. (Secondary) and M.Ed. (Elementary Education) Courses
Session: 2014-15

The Regional Institute of Education, Ajmer (formerly known as Regional College of
Education) is a constituent unit of the NCERT, an autonomous body set up by the Ministry of
Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. The Institute is affiliated to Maharshi Dayanand
Saraswati University, Ajmer and caters to the educational needs of Northern Region of the Country.
The Courses offered by this institute are recognized by the NCTE.

1. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
(i) Candidates are advised to read carefully the rules and regulations given in this Information
Brochure and ensure their eligibility for admission to the course before applying.
(ii) Applications received on prescribed form only for the current session (2014-15) will be
considered.
(iii) Incomplete applications and the applications received after the closing date and time will
not be considered.
(iv) No mark-sheet or any other document will be accepted after the last date and time of
the receipt of application.
(v) The admission in this Institute is restricted to the candidates belonging to the States of the
Northern Region comprising Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir,
Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Chandigarh (UT). (For details: Please
see point 4 of this Information Brochure).
(vi) The decision of the Institute regarding admission shall be final and binding on the
candidates.
(vii) Any dispute related to admission shall be under the jurisdiction of the Courts in Ajmer
City.

2. THE COURSES OFFERED FOR ADMISSION

(1) Two Year B.Ed. (Secondary)
The Institute offers following two groups of courses for admission to Two Year B.Ed.
(Secondary) Course
(i) SCIENCE GROUP :
The candidate will be eligible for admission to Science Group if he/she has passed any one
of the following two combinations at least for two years at the graduation level as optional
subjects and has also passed university examination each year:

(a) Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (b) Chemistry, Botany and Zoology

(ii) HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCE GROUP
The candidate will be eligible for admission to the Humanities and Social Science Group if
he/she has passed B.A. or equivalent course with any two subjects (of two different subject
combinations) of the following three subject combinations (a,b,c) for at least two years.

The relevent subject studied at Postgraduate level will also be considered for determining
the eligibility of the candidate if he/she has passed his/her Undergraduate as well as the
Postgraduate examinations from the same faculty.
(a) Any one subject out of Hindi, English and Urdu as optional subject.
(b) Any one subject out of History and Political Science for opting Social Science-I (SS-I)
(c) Any one subject out of Geography and Economics for opting Social Science-II (SS-II)

Hindi/English/Urdu must have been studied as optional or elective and not as
general/compulsory subject

TEACHING SUBJECTS TO BE OPTED

A candidate may opt any one of the following combinations as teaching subjects. The
essential requirement of subjects studied at the Undergraduate and/or Postgraduate level is also
given against the combination offered.

Combination of teaching subjects to be opted Requirements of subjects studied

(i) For Science Group:

1. Content-cum-methodology of Science-I Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
(for Physical Science) and
Content-cum-methodology of Mathematics

2. Content-cum-methodology of Science-II Chemistry, Botany and Zoology
(for Biological Science Group) and
Content-cum-methodology of Chemistry

(ii) For Humanities & Social Science Group:

1. Hindi & SS-I (History & Civics) Hindi & History/Political Science
2. Hindi & SS-II (Geography & Economics) Hindi & Geography/Economics
3. English & SS-I (History & Civics) English & History/Political Science
4. English & SS-II (Geography & Economics) English & Geography/Economics
5. Urdu & SS-I (History & Civics) Urdu & History/Political Science
6. Urdu & SS-II (Geography & Economics) Urdu & Geography/Economics
7. SS-I (History & Civics) and History/Political Science &
SS-II (Geography & Economics) Geography/Economics

No change of teaching subjects will be permitted after the submission of application.
If a candidate desires to be considered for more than one combination of teaching subjects,
he/she should submitt separate application for each combination. Once a candidate is
admitted to a particular combination of subject, his/her fee will not be refunded or
transferred if he gets admission to another combination of subjects.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA :
The candidate must have passed Three Year Degree Course with 50% marks in the
aggregate at Graduation level, relaxable by 5% for SC/ST/PH candidates. Graduates with Two Year
Degree course are not eligible.

SELECTION OF CANDIDATES
Number of seats:
(i) Science Group
(a) Physical Science (25) (b) Biological Science (25)
One seat is reserved in each combination for physically handicapped candidate.
If sufficient candidates are not available either in (a) or in (b) above, the seats will be filled
on merit basis from the other combination.

(ii) Humanities & Social Science Group

(a) Hindi & SS-I/SS-II (12) (b) English & SS-I/SS-II (12)
(c) Urdu & SS-I/SS-II (12) (d) SS-I & SS-II (12)

- Two seats are reserved for Physically Handicapped candidate in addition to
number of seats mentioned above. It would be allotted on the basis of merit of
all the eligible physically handicapped candidates.
- If sufficient candidates are not available in any of the (a), (b), (c) & (d) above, the
seats will be filled on merit basis from the other combinations.
- Selection will be made on the basis of State-wise merit for each combination.
Following criteria will be used for preparing the merit list:
(i) Percentage of marks obtained at Graduate level will be taken as the base marks.
(ii) Credit Marks for Post-Graduate Degree in the relevant subject would be given as
follows:
First Division (6 marks), Second Division (4 marks), Third Division/Pass (2 marks).
(iii) In case, the mark-sheet does not indicate the division, Credit Marks for P.G. Degree
will be awarded as follows:
60% & above (6 marks), 48% & above but less than 60% (4 marks), less than 48%
(2 marks).
(iv)Credit Marks will be added to base marks to obtain the Total Credit Marks
(TCM) and applicant with higher TCM will be placed higher in the merit list.
(v) Amongst the candidates with the same TCM, the one with Postgraduate Degree will be
placed higher in merit.
(vi) Amongst the candidates with the same TCM, and having Postgraduate Degree, the one
who has higher percentage in Postgraduate degree will be placed higher in merit.
(vii) Amongst the candidates with the same TCM, and percentage in the Postgraduate
degree, the one senior in age will be placed higher in merit.

2. M.Ed. (Elementary Education)
Number of Seats: 30 (One seat is reserved for physically handicapped candidates)

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

(i) Only those candidates will be eligible who have passed three year degree course and B.Ed.
(One Year B.Ed. or Two Year B.Ed. course) from a recognized institution.
(ii) The admission to M.Ed. (Ele.Edu.) shall also be open to candidates who have passed Four-
year B.Sc.B.Ed./B.A.B.Ed course from any recognized institution.

Candidates with 50% marks and above both in aggregate and in Education Theory Papers in
the above mentioned examination will only be eligible for applying to this course, relaxable by
5% for SC/ST/PH candidates.

Following criteria will be used for preparing the merit list:
1. Percentage of qualifying examination will be taken as base marks.
2. In case grades awarded to a candidate in qualifying examination, he/she must attach the
grade conversion formula duly authenticated by the university under reference.
3. In case mark-sheets of the qualifying examination and Part I & II of P.G. Degree
Examination do not indicate maximum and aggregate marks, the candidate should submit a
certificate from the Principal of the concerned College or Registrar of the concerned
University indicating Maximum marks Year-wise and aggregate marks.
4. Credit Marks for Post-Graduate Degree in School subject would be given as follows:
First Division (6 marks), Second Division (4 marks), Third Division/Pass (2 marks).
5. In case, the mark-sheet does not indicate the division, Credit Marks for P.G. Degree will be
awarded as follows:
60% & above (6 marks), 48% & above but less than 60% (4 marks), less than 48%
(2 marks).
6. Credit Marks will be added to base marks to obtain the Total Credit Marks (TCM).
(i) Applicant with higher TCM will be placed higher in the merit list.
(ii) Amongst the candidates with the same TCM, the one with Post-Graduate Degree will
be placed higher in merit.
(iii)Amongst the candidates with the same TCM, and having Post-Graduate Degree, the one
who has higher percentage in Post-Graduate degree will be placed higher in merit.
(iv)Amongst the candidates with the same TCM, and percentage in the Postgraduate
degree, the one senior in age will be placed higher in merit.

Candidates who have passed Four Year B.Sc. B.Ed./B.A. B.Ed. Examination must submit
their Marks-sheets of I, II, III & IV Year and candidates having passed two year B.Ed.
(Secondary), must submit their mark sheet for both the years. The candidates having Post
Graduate Degree will have to submit the Marksheets of both the years.

3. SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION FORM

Filled in application Forms alongwith all the required documents including Indian Postal
Order or Bank Draft worth Rs.300/-(GEN & OBC) and Rs.200/- (SC,ST&PH) in favour of
Principal, Regional Institute of Education, Ajmer payable at Ajmer should reach the Administrative
Officer, Regional Institute of Education, Capt. D. P .Chaudhary Marg, Ajmer 305004 latest by
5.00 p.m. on 30
th
June, 2014. Application Fee is not refundable in any case.
The Institute remains closed on Saturday, Sunday & other holidays.

4. CRITERIA FOR DETERMINING STATE/UT ELIGIBLITIY:
(i) For the candidates who have passed qualifyig examination from any of the States/UT
of Northern Region.
(a) State-wise quota for admission to different courses is fixed. Eligibility for admission
under State quota would be adjudged on the basis of passing of qualifying examination
only from the concerned State/UT. The information is to be invariably filled up in the
relevant column of the Application Form. The qualifying examination for determining
the State/UT is given below: -

(b) In case of a candidate, who has passed the qualifying examination through distance
education, the State/UT will be determined by the location of the examination center.
If Marks Sheet or Certificate does not indicate the name of the State/UT where
Examination Center is located, the candidate will have to submit a proof of the same.

(ii) For candidates who have passed qualifying examination from other than the
States/UT of Northern Region.

If he/she is a domicile from any of the State/UT of Northern Region, certificate
issued from competent authority will have to be submitted with the Application Form
in its support.
OR
If he/she is the son/daughter/wife /husband of a person belonging to the Central
Govt./Autonomous Institution/Central Government Undertaking and those services are
transferrable all over India and at present posted in any of the States of the Northern
Region. Certificate to this effect should be signed by the Head of the concerned
Institution/Department in the format given below:

NOTES:
a) Candidates applying under reservation quota will be considered only on the basis of the lists
notified by the Government of India and the category certificate/PH certificate in the format
approved by the Government and issued by the competent authority. OBC candidates will have
to attach a certificate from competent authority stating that he/ she does not belong to creamy
layer.
b) Employed candidate, whether in teaching or otherwise, must apply through their Employer and
will have to submit relieving certificate from the employer before joining, in case of selection.
Those, who are not employed, will have to give an undertaking that on getting admission he/she
will not undertake any employment.

5. HOSTEL
The Institute has separate hostel for boys and girls. However, it is not obligatory on the
part of the Institute to provide hostel facilities to all the students.

6. RESERVATION OF SEATS
SC-15%, ST-7.5%, OBC-27% & Physically Handicapped-3%

7. SCHOLARSHIPS
All SC, ST, PH and 50% of remaining students will be awarded scholarship as per NCERT
rules. Staying in hostel is compulsory for scholarship holders.
