INTRODUCTION:

Back in 2011, the Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Rendah(KSSR) was introduced.


MOE enlisted the help the British Council(ELTDP, 2013) to run the Native Speakers project in order to
help English teachers with the changes in the curriculum.
The British Council run the Native Speakers project under the title English Language Teacher
Development Project (ELTDP).
one-to-one mentoring, where teachers are not taken out of schools, but the mentors will go to schools
to help them there.
The project is part of the Malaysian governments efforts to up-skill primary English teachers,
particularly in the context of a new English curriculum which stresses communicative approaches and
making learning fun (ELTDP, 2013).

PROBLEM STATEMENT
In Malaysia, professional development activities are often centralised, dominated by cascade-type programmes (top
down) that neglect teachers interest and needs(Bowden, 2014)
"disjointed and poorly coordinated approaches to teachers' professional development can work against genuine
professional development and actual teaching/learning in schools"(Kaplan, 2012)

AIMS OF THE STUDY
To look at the mentees
perception in terms of the
value and impact of the
programme, to find out if
mentees do things differently
in their professional duties
after the program

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY:
To discover what the mentees
learned and gained from the
program
To see if the program benefitted
the mentees, and how if
benefitted them
To investigate what the mentees
do differently as a result

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This evaluation report
will work on gaining
deeper insight on the
issues, workings and
benefits of this ELTDP
program in S.K.
Karamunting and will
thus help upcoming
mentors and mentees
in the school
