The Expander

System is fitted directly into the worn pivot.

When the fasteners are tightened, the tension washers press
the slotted collets up the tapered ends of the pin axle. The
collets expand, conform to the wear pattern and lock the
System in the pivot lugs. The System is easy to disassemble
and re-install.
After replacing the bushing or bear-
ing, the Expander System is fitted
directly into the worn pivot.
When the fasteners are tightened,
the tension washers press the slotted
sleeves up the tapered ends of the
pin axle.
The sleeves expand, conform with the
wear pattern and lock the System in
the pivot lugs.

1950
In 1987 Expander was honored with the Alfred
Nobel Development Award.
In the commendation for the award the
significance of the Expander

System was
compared with the world famous invention,
the ball bearing.
It started in the 1950s, when the twin brothers Everth and
Gerhard Svensson built roads across the Swedish countryside.
They had become tired of the expensive, constantly recurring
problem of pivot wear. One day when a pivot pin was coming
loose, Everth tried fixing the pin in the lughole using a rusty
nail, which he wedged into the worn pivot lug. The solution
worked! Only temporary of course, but the idea was born and
soon turned into practical reality. The present company group,
Expander, was founded in 1986 on the initiative of his son
Roger.
