Kajang has transformed itself from a small old town to a big modern town by designing and
developing new township such as Bandar Baru Bangi and Bandar Seri Putra as well as extending
its CBD (central business district) such as extension to Sungai Chua. However, its centre is
inadequately transformed and most of its residences are working in Kuala Lumpur and other
external areas. Write your vision and plan for Kajang to transform its town centre and to be a self
reliance town. You may use sketches to enhance your vision and plan.
Answer:
Introduction
The Kajang city centre can be renewed by fully utilized by reviving the Langat River which flow
near the city centre. The Langat River can be transform into major tourist attraction and elite
residential and business area. Premium condominium can be built they to increase the land value
and attract more people there. Commercial area can also been built to cater the need of the high
income individual that migrate in that area.

One of the major problems in Kajang is the heavy traffic in the city center especially at the peak
hour. The road inside the city center is not enough to supply the traffic volume. The mitigation to
overcome this problem is to encouraged people to use the public transport. However, the local
authorities needs to upgrades the service of the public transport so it would be more comfortable
and less delayed to attract people to use it.
The major cause of heavy traffic during peak hour is the amount of people going back to home
from work. Most of the Kajang inhabitants work at Kuala Lumpur. This problem can be
overcome by creating more high-income work inside the Kajang area itself. One of the way to
create more job inside Kajang is by creating more commercial area and industrial in Kajang.
With high-income job and low residential value compared to Kuala Lumpur, the Kajang area can
be attractive to the eyes of many skilled employers. This would create more migration to the
Kajang town thus increase the productivity and economy status of Kajang itself.



Vision And Mission
Sustainable and green city

A sustainable city and green city is a better vision for Kajang according to the condition of
Kajang which getting worse if no any development being made. Kajang were dense with
population years by years. A sustainable development will solve the problem of any pollution
occur in Kajang city by implementation of more green infrastructures and services.

Enabling effective use of transportation

The existing system of transportation in Kajang needs to be enhanced. The public transport
management can be improved by relocate the place for bus stop so that it will not disturbing
traffic in Kajang.

Urban Renewal

Solution for traffic congestion.
Kajang is a compact city with higher population and also problems in traffic congestion.
Proposed urban renewal for Kajang is by organizing the city to facilitate the populations because
all the facilities are provided within a closed distance. Strengthening the city limit can be done
through provision of building schematic colour, building texture and lightning of buildings. It
can distinguish clearly the urban area. To solve the traffic congestion issue, only public transport
has permission to enter the city. Thus, outside the city, more interchange station and parking
space shall be built. Better service such as improve the service level, waiting time and travel time
of public transportation should be offered to attract the user.

Privatization
Privatization also can played important role in Kajang as it plays it role in the development of
Kuala Lumpur. However, the number of privatization needs to be controlled because it can cause
a steep increase in the land and property value. Increasing land and property value would
decrease the attractiveness of Kajang in terms of cost of living. Outsourcing can also be one of
the major ways in transforming Kajang into a self-reliable city. The Kajang Municipality can
make co-operation with major company around the world for them to outsourcing their
production. This can save the company production and at the same time increase the job
oppurtinity in Kajang.

Waste management

In terms of solid waste management, Kajang have a few sanitary landfill. However the volume of
the landfill cannot cater the amount of solid waste generated daily from the Kajang inhabitant.
Hence new sanitary landfills need to be built to reduce the cost of hauling waste to the Bukit
Tagar Sanitay Landfill.

Public transportation

In kajang, the main public transportation is by using trains, buses and taxi. Within kajang
city, there are Rapid KL, mini bus and taxi. The main existing road connecting Kajang with
expressway such as Cheras-Kajang Expressway, North South Expressway and many more. Due
to higher population of community and abundant vehicle movement in Kajang city, lot of
emission green gas occurs. Thus, the usage of modern public transport facilities can reduce the
emission of green gas house. It is because, modern public transport are using hydrogen fuel that
generate electricity. Modern transport facilities such as tramline can be implemented in Kajang
city. The usage of tramline facilities can encourage people to use public transport to travel
around Kajang and at the same time can reduce the traffic congestion. Tramline system utilizing
the electric energy power movement and the sources are renewable energy and more
environmental friendly.

Park and ride systems can help to implement the tramline systems. Community around
kajang who want to enter Kajang city can park their private vehicles outside the city. They can
access to Kajang center by using tramline. Since the building orientation is centered, they can
just walking or by using the tramline. Besides, we can also promote community to cycling and
also use tramline to fetch people from one point to another point in city.

River Problem

At Kajang city, the only river basin that connecting Kajang is Langat River basin. Rapid
development in Kajan affecting water quality of Kajang and also disturbs the ecosystems in
Langat Basin. Several large federal government project are located along Langat River and it
will affect the price of land and also contribute to human settlements, landscape and ecology of
river basin. We can applying project River of Life to make Langat river basin vibrant and
livable. The transformation is based on river cleaning, beautification and river development.

River cleaning: we can clean and improve the water quality from its current class III to
class V water quality that not suitable for body contact to become class IIb that is suitable
for body contact recreational usage.

Beautification : we can make Langat River look beautiful to increase the economic
viability of area.

River development: The beautification works will spur economic investments into the
areas immediately surrounding the river corridor. To catalyst development along the
corridor, potential government land will be identified and tendered out to private
developers through competitive bidding.

To make Langat river livable and attracted to the tourism, we can have a new development along
the river. We can proposed to build Kajang business hall fro convention, construct hotels along
the river and develop some commercial area along the river. It can contribute to economical
income for kajang city.
