The damp grass and the moun- tains make it one of the hardest places to travel through and live in. Hazy clouds shroud the foothills, into an innocuously peaceful place. As these clouds shower the land with a light mist, the sun nale On this towering landscape a civilization like no other will be built. Introduction 1 Snyder, Bennett Thursday, June 5, 2014 11:21:09 AM Pacic Daylight Time 70:56:81:af:e1:3f burns throws and shows an array of after- noon oranges and ashen purples. Pine smells and soggy grass journey through the air making the land feel like paradise. Mooing cows, squawking geese, and bark- ing prairie dogs put the life in the verdant landscape. As the meadows and the mountains get their last bits of light, dan- ger starts to strike. Although not bitten by frostbite, gray wolves come out to stalk their prey. It is in this favorable geographic environ- ment that the civilization of Limbodia will be founded. It is a civilization whose design takes its inspiration from the study of other civilizations such as the Ar- abs, the Aztecs, the Greeks, the Mayans, the Mesopotamians, and the Romans, among others. This book will document the necessary steps to take in order to cre- ate a successful civilization. 2 Snyder, Bennett Thursday, June 5, 2014 11:21:09 AM Pacic Daylight Time 70:56:81:af:e1:3f People are children of there environment - Shinichi Suzuki CHAPTER 1 3 Modifications http://blog.ecoagriculture.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Safe-food-Farm-e1362772094683.jpg Snyder, Bennett Thursday, June 5, 2014 11:21:09 AM Pacic Daylight Time 70:56:81:af:e1:3f SECTION 1 Part 1 Analysis of the Problem The rst step in building a civilization is to secure human basic needs such as food and water. Due to its geography, the ma- jor challenges the civilization of the Lim- bodians face in achieving a basic food and water supply. Human Changes to the land 4 http://www.omniplan.hu/2004-SA/Day25-Pilgrim-Macmac/ Snyder, Bennett Thursday, June 5, 2014 11:21:09 AM Pacic Daylight Time 70:56:81:af:e1:3f The brisk, varied-temperature climate of the foothills make it one of the hardest places to live in. Below-zero temperatures at night and scalding daytime temperatures are its features. Lack of a clear-water source is by far the most signi- cant. First of all nd- ing a fresh spring source is a challenge. Although there is prolic rain over the mountains, and although there are prominent waterfalls on their faces, few springs intersperse the pastures. For a Limbodian to hike to the mountain each day he endangers himself with the possi- bility of injury and dehydration. The few lakes and rivers that are close to my em- pire are not drinkable be- cause of animal waste. Thus, the Limbodians will not survive or thrive unless these problems and their en- suing consequences are identied, addressed and re- solved. The next challenge for the Limbodians is controlling and taking care of the Lim- bodians cattle. Wolves are the main predators of cattle. Not protecting these cattle could result in starvation and even 5 http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-m6Ubg9X8JIY/TsPJhyXyfnI/AA AAAAAABZQ/LQHkH-x2psk/s1600/P1020287.JPG Snyder, Bennett Thursday, June 5, 2014 11:21:09 AM Pacic Daylight Time 70:56:81:af:e1:3f death. This dare will change the future of their civilization. Part 2- Proposed Solutions Adaptations. Adaptations are key to sur- vival. Adaptations occur when a human, animal or plant changes the way it lives because of the environment that it lives in. Modications on the other hand are when a human being changes the land- scape to survive better. Modications and adaptations will help my empire grow be- yond any other. For example humans might adapt wearing thicker clothes in a cold environment. On the other hand the landscape might need to be modied by building earth steps if there is no at land
Being that the Limbodians live in an envi-
ronment that is in the foothills of a large mountain range fresh water only collects in springs high up in the mountains sur- rounding the Limbodians empire. This is why the Limbodians have come to build aqueducts from the mountains to the Lim- bodians city. Limbodians will achieve this by gathering a group of people will- 6 http://images.summitpost.org/original/545762.jpg Snyder, Bennett Thursday, June 5, 2014 11:21:09 AM Pacic Daylight Time 70:56:81:af:e1:3f ing to work. These men and women will have to move rock for months on end. Al- though this work is tough the Limbodi- ans will be rewarded with a supply of wa- ter. Copying the Aztecs genius idea of making a twin-piped water system in 1325 C.E. Twin pipes ran from Chapulte- pec springs, three miles away (Frey 275) will make it so that the harmless citizens of Limbodia will not have to deal with climbing a monstrous mountain every day to retrieve water. Having wild cows already waiting for the Limbodians in the main pasture is a giant advantage, but protecting these cows will be a cosmic responsibility for the Limbodi- ans. Living in the mountains, there will be lots of predators such as wolves. The Limbodians will have to protect these cows by building a stonewall around them. This will happen by again forming a group of individuals to collect and pile stone over greenish areas. Unlike Mesopo- tamias mud walls built in 3000 B.C.E. The walls were made of mud bricks that were baked in the sun until it was hard (Frey 38) mine will be made out of stone 7 http://pcdn.500px.net/32554175/90ec17bc2a53a46762431b2 495dcf0b431f29901/2048.jpg Snyder, Bennett Thursday, June 5, 2014 11:21:09 AM Pacic Daylight Time 70:56:81:af:e1:3f brick. CHAPTER 2 9 Ideas http://rappingmanual.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/BrightIdea.jpeg -John F. kennedy Snyder, Bennett Thursday, June 5, 2014 11:21:09 AM Pacic Daylight Time 70:56:81:af:e1:3f SECTION 1 How can a Humanist mindset promote new ideas and make for a successful civi- lization? Humanist have shaped the world in many ways, the biggest achievements by humanist were in literature and painting. Humanist lived during the renaissance Power of Ideas 10 http://pas-wordpress-media.s3.amazonaws.com/content/uploads/2014/04/Ideas-Make-or-Break-Your-Business.jpg Snyder, Bennett Thursday, June 5, 2014 11:21:09 AM Pacic Daylight Time 70:56:81:af:e1:3f period (1300-1600). These men and women believed in a balance between relig- ion and daily life. Hu- manists had a very dif- ferent mindset from the people in the medie- val times. They were the rst to start asking question and nding the answer to that ques- tion if no one knows the answer. Human- ist also affected they way people think, Such as in Literature and painting. In Lit- erature writers and poets started writing about personal experiences, feelings, and ctional stories instead of religious topics. Writing about secular, or non religious topics became more popular. Painting had also advanced a lot. Artists were now starting to paint more realistic paintings. These paintings also had 3-D objects and de- tailed backgrounds. Artists used perspec- tive and shading, this created the realistic looks. The paint- ing had gone from at boring paintings in the medieval times, to detailed and realist paintings in the renaissance. The human- ist mindset changed the way in which many people thought during the renais- sance. For Example one Humanist named 11 http://bscheff22.les.wordpress.com/2013/10/s This is a picture of a famous painting called School of athens done by Raffaello Sanzio Snyder, Bennett Thursday, June 5, 2014 11:21:09 AM Pacic Daylight Time 70:56:81:af:e1:3f Leonardo de Vinci has created many fa- mous painting that are still famous today. Over all Humanist have inspire us to ask questions and be curious. How can questions and new ideas threaten traditional beliefs or institutions of power? Through out the middle ages the Catholic Church controlled all of Western Europe, but once humanists started questioning the church, people began to believe that the church was very corrupt. People be- lieved that the church was corrupt be- cause the church was asking for money to be relieved of your sins. This is called an indulgence. This is wrong because the tra- ditional why was to confess your sins to a priest for free. This was threatening the church a lot. The church was afraid of los- ing its power so they started getting rid of the people that questioned them and their beliefs. Over time, popes and bish- ops began selling indulgences as a way of raising money(Frey 348). One example of a humanist that questioned the Catho- 12 http://www.lutheranhistory.org/melanchthon/ A priest selling indulgences to a township Snyder, Bennett Thursday, June 5, 2014 11:21:09 AM Pacic Daylight Time 70:56:81:af:e1:3f lic Churchs beliefs is a priest named Martin Luther. Martin Luther believed that you could only receive salvation as a gift from god by he or shes faith, not your good works. The Catholic Church on the other hand believed that you could receive salva- tion by faith, good works, and following the sacra- ments. Martin urged the church to start teaching what he believed in. After lots of arguing Mar- tin Luther started his own church. Surpris- ing, Luthers church grew very large. Several princes, however, sported Luther, and Lutheranism continued to grow.(Frey 353) Luther had successfully created a thriving church, but the catholic church re- sponded violently. Over the next 30 years the Catholic Church was in war with Lu- theranism. After the ghting had ended in 1555, they signed the peace of Augs- burg. This meant that princes inside the Holy Roman Em- pire could determine what re- ligion their kingdom would follow. According to the treaty, each prince within the Holy Roman Empire could determine the religion of his sub- jects. (Frey 353) This treaty created one of the most dramatic changes Europe. Af- 13 http://witnessesuntome.com/ A picture of Martin Luther Snyder, Bennett Thursday, June 5, 2014 11:21:09 AM Pacic Daylight Time 70:56:81:af:e1:3f ter More and more humanists started questioning the church, I feel that church has to start excepting these other teaching and Ideas. This all started with the church sighing the treaty with Lutheranism. The Catholic Church ruled most of Europe during the middle ages, but as more years go by during the renaissance, the church losese more and more power. In the civilization of Limbodia, humanists questioned the transpiration in my civili- zation. The rst thing a humanist would question would be, why doesnt the civili- zation of Limbodia have a major road sys- tem. He or she might think not having a road system will make trade extremely hard. Having a road system would also benet for the people of Limbodia, it would help them by making it easier to travel from place to place. One question the government ofcials of Limbodia had 14 http://lh6.ggpht.com/_xwHJjVj3Ll4/SbLxbSr6xfI/AAA Sixtus IV with four of his nephews. Giuliano della Rovere, third from left, later became Pope Julius II Snyder, Bennett Thursday, June 5, 2014 11:21:09 AM Pacic Daylight Time 70:56:81:af:e1:3f asked me was how the civilization would determine whether accept a new idea or decline it. This decision would be deter- mined by a series testings and votings. First the new idea would go to the top sci- entist and priests. They would determine if the Idea would help the civilization. If the Idea or belief was tested helpful for the civilization, government ofcials and in most cases the public, would vote to see if that law, belief, or improvement to the civilization should be carried through. This strategy will make a very successful civilization. It will do this because people and the government dont only make the choice, but also by the smart scientist and the wise priests that live in Limbodia. Over all, having humanists in Limbodia will benet the environment. However, the bad and threatening Ideas will be re- jected from society. Humanist ideas will help the civilization of Limbodia. Nicolaus Copernicus was a skilled in mathematics and observations. He had many achievements, one was nding that 15 http://encorelearn.org/classes This is a picture that proves the Earth is not the center of the universe Snyder, Bennett Thursday, June 5, 2014 11:21:09 AM Pacic Daylight Time 70:56:81:af:e1:3f the earth was not the center of the uni- verse and that it revolved around the sun on it axis. Nicolaus was smart, hard work- ing, and talented. Nicolaus ideas had beneted other scientist, but threatened the Catholics church beliefs. The idea that had threatened the church the most was how he found that the earth is not the cen- ter of the universe. The church had in- structed the opposite, which the earth was at the center of the universe because god had put humans there. How could Nicolaus improve my civilization? If Nico- laus were to come to my civilization, I would promise him everything he needs to continue his studys if he helps Limbo- dia advance in astronomy. Limbodia want a humanist like Nicolaus because the civilization needs a accrete way of tell- ing time by just looking at the sun posi- tion in the sky. This will be helpful to Lim- bodia because then worker can look up 16 http://s3.timetoast.com/ A picture of Nicolaus Copernicus Snyder, Bennett Thursday, June 5, 2014 11:21:09 AM Pacic Daylight Time 70:56:81:af:e1:3f into the sky and see when there done with there work. Limbodia also needs Ni- colaus to gure out what is beyond the civilization world; the civilization wants to know this just to have more knowl- edge. Nicolaus is a very smart man, and if our civilization didnt take advantage of him, we would not thrive. 17 Snyder, Bennett Thursday, June 5, 2014 11:21:09 AM Pacic Daylight Time 70:56:81:af:e1:3f
