DESCRIPTION OF YOUR DUTIES
Develop with government counterparts at central and governorate/District levels (5 provincial offices) and other partners, health,
nutrition and water and sanitation strategies and support agreed Plan of actions addressing Yemen priorities to
promote women and child rights in related fields of cooperation. My main achievements during my assignment in
Yemen is my contribution to the control of Polio outbreak and Measles endemic through very successful NIDs reaching
coverage above 95%. I brought mother and child malnutrition on the top priorities agenda of the MOPH&P and
partners. Furthermore, I initiated, with UNFPA and GTZ partners, the setting up of The RH Technical Group bringing
together all National and international RH Stakeholders. This tool for harmonisation and alignment is fully operational
and is meeting monthly.
Currently, my main challenge is to mobilise National decision makers and international development partners for full involvement
in the Acceleration of Child Survival Initiative to achieve Millennium Goals.
My main fields of interest are: Decentralisation, Quality assurance, Monitoring and Evaluation of mother and child health
programs (EPI, CDD, ARI, IMCI, Malaria, ECD, HIV/AIDS…), Maternal and Neonatal Health (Home based maternal and
neonatal care, EmOC and Neonatal care); Nutrition (acute child malnutrition, Micronutrients); Hygiene practices; Community
based strategies; System Analysis; Health Policies; Child protection; Dev-info data base; harmonisation of UNICEF
interventions' package, joint programming...
I participated twice to a training on Human rights based approach to programming, facilitated by Urban Jonsson (January 2005
in Morocco, February 2006 in Yemen) and to Learning Policy advocacy and partnerships for children’s rights with Maastricht
University (from May 06 to date). Our Policy paper is selected to be published on line at UNICEF Intranet web site.

DESCRIPTION OF YOUR DUTIES
Developing with government counterparts, strategies and support the implementation of activities to ensure and sustain Mid-
Decade and Decade goals.
Since twelve years as health officer in UNICEF Tunis Office, I contributed to the preparation, execution, monitoring and
evaluation of health programs aiming to reduce infant and maternal morbidity and mortality. During this period, many
achievements could reported: reduction by more than half of IMR and under five MR (21%o and 30%o) and MMR by 1/3
(40/100000 LB), no more acute malnutrition, no Polio cases since 1992, NN Tetanus eliminated, Measles is under control,
Iodised salt is consumed by all households, reported morbidity and mortality by diarrhea diseases are no more significant .
Related to EPI, we performed very high EPI coverage, through a strong and well organized routine immunization system, very
effective social mobilization strategies, adequate and timely mass campaigns: NIDs (1987 and 1988), Maghrebian immunization
days (since 1989), Polio eradication campaigns (1995-97), Measles campaign 7-16 years of age (1998). I was involved in all these
interventions, mainly at programming, implementation and evaluation steps.
From October2001-january 02, I performed 3 months emergency mission to Pakistan during the Afghani war. I was assigned to
Islamabad UNICEF CO. My duties were to coordinate emergency operations between UNICEF sub-offices in Quetta and
Peshawar and partners (WHO, Médecins sans frontiers, save the children, UNHCR, WFP…). Less than one months following my
arrival to Islamabad, all Emergency preparedness interventions were fully achieved: new refugees camps installed with sanitation
commodities, shelters, school in boxes, health Kits, blankets, water tanks… As we worked on the base of a hypothesis of a
minimum one million refugees, most of installations were not used as Government of Pakistan didn’t open its borders to young
adult males. On my departure early January, the total number of refugees did not exceed 30.000 people.
In May 2002, I undertook a three week mission to Dakar UNICEF CO to assist in the design of a World Bank project aiming to
accelerate Infant mortality reduction.
