The document outlines Reliance Industries' procedures for noise level monitoring. It describes conducting biannual noise level surveys within plants and at the plant periphery using a sound level meter. Noise mapping is done for existing plants and recommendations are made for new areas/equipment. Exposure limits and permissible durations for different noise levels are also provided.

Procedure Manual Page No. 1 of !."#" N$ISE LE%EL M$NI&$RIN' Introduction( The purpose is to identify the high noise areas and recommend necessary corrective actions to overcome the unhealthy conditions. Noise level survey within plant after commissioning of new plant or equipments is done once in six months for three times. After this noise mapping of the area is done and regular survey is stopped. Noise level survey on the periphery of factory is done once in six month to ensure the compliance with the statutory norms. Procedure ( Noise level survey is carried with the help of sound level meter Optel or any other reputed make. And report is issued in the form described in 2.!"A#. $ound level meter is calibrated at %&'(%) *ombay once in a year. $ound level meter has measurement range ! to +! d* and frequency range +., to -!!! ./. %t has four indication ranges i.e. ! to -!) ,! to +!! 0 -! to +! d*. Noise levels are measured in d*A scale. (onitoring is done at (ax. hold position with wind screen on the microphone. All readings are taken at +1(eter distance from the source.
2or existing plant) noise mapping is done and noise contour diagrams are prepared. These are displayed in the plant for reference and identification of high noise level area. 2or new area3equipments noise level monitoring reports are prepared and engineering and administrative recommendations are worked out wherever feasible. 4opy of report is sent to plant .O& of respective plant for necessary action like) intallation of caution board) demarkation of area or control of noise at source through engineering measures at their end. %n case if noise in peripheral area is found higher than the norms) the source will be investigated by 'nv. 4ell and concerned plant .O& will be informed to take corrective measure.
