CENTRE FOR RAILWAY INFORMATION SYSTEMS

Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) is an autonomous organization of the

Ministry of Railways, Government of India, engaged in development, implementation and
maintenance of large online computer applications such as Freight Operations Information
System (FOIS) and Passenger Reservation System (PRS) of Indian Railways.

FOIS is a system for management and control of freight movement that assists managers
to optimize asset utilization. It is a mission critical system having three tier Client-Server
architecture. The operating system is Unix Tru-64 with 9i Real Applications cluster and
the middleware is TUXEDO.

PRS is an on line passenger reservation ticketing system on Indian Railways and the
largest online reservation application in the world. CONCERT (Country-wide Network of
Computerized Enhanced Reservation and Ticketing) developed and maintained by CRIS is
a complex online distributed client server application developed in C on OVMS using
RTR (Reliable Transaction Router) as a middleware. Besides CRIS also handles several
exciting Projects.

CRIS REQUIRES I.T. PROFESSIONALS FOR THEIR PROJECTS

CRIS invites applications for the post of Assistant Software Engineers (ASE) in scale Rs. 6500-
10500 for working in these projects on contractual basis for a period of five years. Total
emoluments work out to Rs. 2 Lakhs per annum (Approximately). In addition, they will be
entitled to LTC, Medical reimbursement, Leave Encashment, Gratuity and personal insurance as
per rules of CRIS. The selected candidates will be on probation for a period of one year.
Vacancies exist at Delhi, but candidates can be posted at other Centres of CRIS at Kolkata,
Chennai, Mumbai and Secunderabad.

Qualifications: BE/B.Tech in Computer Science or MCA or MS/M.Tech./M.Sc. in Computer
Science from any recognized Institute/University. Candidates with B.E./B.Tech. of disciplines
other than Computer Science should possess additional qualification like MCSE, MCSD, Sun
Certified Professional, Red Hat Certified Engineer, Oracle Certified Professional.

Experience: One-year experience after completion of the qualification prescribed above in one
or more of the areas mentioned below:

C, C++, Fortran, RDBMS, UNIX (VMS, Tru 64, Solaris), Data Base Administrators (Oracle,
Sybase), Web Technology (J2EE/CGI or DOT Net Technology), Data Warehousing (COGNOS
or Business Object), Designers (Rational, Rose/UML Tools), Testers (Automated Testing Tools
like Win/Runner, Load Runner/Rational ROBOT), Quality Assurance (ISO Standards and
Practices), TUXEDO (Middleware, Web logic), System Administrators (UNIX/Windows Server,
OVMS/Linux/Mail Server /Web Server/Firewall/SAN RAID Management), Visual Basic, XML,
JAVA, D2K, SQL, PL/SQL.

Age: Upto 28 years as on 30.04.2004, relaxation upto 5 years for SC/ST Candidates & 3 years
for OBC Candidates. Application on plain paper indicating name, fathers name, age, address,

Written test is proposed to be conducted in Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai
depending on the number of candidates. Choice of Centre in order of preference may be
given. CRIS will have the final right for allocation of Centre for written examination. No
