SELF REFLEXION ABOUT THE PRINCIPLES OF GOOD TEACHING
PRACTICE

This self-reflection is about the principles of good teaching practice in
order to make teacher to think over about what they had done when teaching?
What they will improve in this process of learning? And also, whether they have
developed the principles of good teacher? Is very important to bring back in
mind, whether our teaching practice or even teaching as a professional we have
achieve the principles of a good teaching practice and also how will we
improved the things we have done in years ago, and finally this self-reflection
will help me to point myself up at the map where am I, where I am going to, and
how to arrive there. In this case this Self-reflection will help me to improve in my
teaching practice because I will found what are may fouls, my breakdown as
well as the principles of good practice that I have to improve.
In order to develop this self-reflection I focused myself into the following
guideline:

1. In a chart, using the concepts of the PRINCIPLES OF GOOD TEACHING
PRACTICE describe an explain what and how you will develop each
principle in your TP taking into account the previous Teaching Experience
that you have.

2. Explain how you are going to design your TP based on the approaches,
methodology, methods, strategies and techniques that it will be defined your
teaching style.

3. In your teaching designing include IT or how to teach English on-line. Define
e-learning and blended learning.

1-In a chart, using the concepts of the PRINCIPLES OF GOOD TEACHING PRACTICE describe an explain what and
how you will develop each principle in your TP taking into account the previous Teaching Experience that you have
Principles Of teaching Practice Description What and How will I developed this principle?
1-Good practice encourages
interaction between students
and faculty
Frequent student-faculty
contact in and out of class is a
most important factor in
student motivation and
involvement.
Is very important to take into a count Student interaction with
the faculty because they need to be motivate in the learning
process, because of that teacher are responsible of students
changes in behavior as well as stimulate them to be a part of
this learning process. What I will try to do is engage students to
solve their problems with the interaction between the faculties
because they can improve what they have already developed.
2-Good practice encourages
interaction and collaboration
between students
Learning is enhanced when it
is more like a team effort than a
solo race. Good learning, like
good work, is collaborative and
social, not competitive and
isolated.
As teacher, is important to stimulate collaboration among
students because they learn much better by interaction with
each other than working alone. So, also developing this
principles involved good relation between students, they learn
how to interact in social context and also they feel comfortable
as well as learning at the same time as a whole group. In this
case to encourage them to work in group will facilitated the task
they will develop during the lesson and also they will exchange
what they learn in group.

3-Good practice uses active
learning techniques
Learning is not a spectator
sport. Students do not learn
much just sitting in classes
listening to teachers,
memorizing prepackaged
assignments, and spitting out
answers.
In order to develop this principle we have to know that, the
learning process is not only stay in front of the class, giving
instructions, memorizing and so on, rather than being an static
process active learning involve a series of technique which help
student to learn by experienced, by touching and interaction
with. So, thats mean active learning, is teach using the
technology whit a creative class involving student attention as
meaningful learning too. In this case, make students feel
comfortable and make them feel as a part of the learning
process and finally the active learning involve students
interaction they can participate in the lesson because of that I
will divided the class into Teacher-students time.
4- Good practice gives prompt
feedback
Knowing what you know and
don't know focuses your
learning. In getting started,
students need help in assessing
their existing knowledge and
competence.
Good practice always is in share. I meant teacher have to give
prompt when students need reinforce, when they do not know
how to do something else within the classroom or task, there is
not selfish because good practice have to teach what they know,
they have to help each other when needed. Give feedback when
task is complicate or even when students mind has the
presence of doubt about anything that they dont know how to
develop. In short practice is always there to answer questions
and doubt about the previewed activities.
5-Good practice emphasizes
time on task
Time plus energy equals
learning. Learning to use one's
time well is critical for students
and professionals alike.
Allocating realistic amounts of
time means effective learning
This is one of the most problem faced when teaching because
sometimes we do not know how to divide time on task,
everything goes in a wrong way because we dont know how to
encourage with time, maybe the task is too extended or even to
short but we dont stimulate student interaction with energy.
Base on that is important to pacing time and task in order to

for students and effective
teaching for faculty.
make student motivate, as teacher we have to show a kind of
energy by using different techniques according to the activity,
on the other side, timing is very important because we have to
fallow time in task in order to maintain student working
together with enthusiasm.
6-Good practice communicates
high expectations
Expect more and you will get
it. High expectations are
important for everyone - for
the poorly prepared, for those
unwilling to exert themselves,
and for the bright and well
motivated. Expecting students
to perform well becomes a self-
fulfilling prophecy.
The more expectations we have about the practice, the more
expectation we will communicate in classroom. This mean to be
prepared day a day, been update, innovating each classroom
because when we plan a lesson we expected what are the goals,
the purpose, to whom is the activities planned and finally how
to apply what we planned for teaching. Is important to expected
day a day what is going to be teaching next, what was not work
well and how to improve it. Being prepared is been always in
advanced, always expecting what to do next. Because of that I
will developed this principle by doing what I had said before.
7-Good practice respects
diversity---talents, experience,
and ways of learning
Many roads lead to learning.
Different students bring
different talents and styles to
college.
Respect, this is a keyword because wherever students diversity
in talents do we find in classroom we have to respect them as
individual, diversity characteristic, competences and also
different learning style within the classroom, So that mean
teachers need to motivate students to learn according to their
talents. We have to create a good learning environment when
practice because what we do in teaching is what we earn at the
end, good teacher good learning and vice versa.

(Brown, 2007)

2-Explain how you are going to design your TP based on the approaches,
methodology, methods, strategies and techniques that it will be defined your
teaching style.
In order to explain this part, I need to take in consideration the approach in
which my teaching practice will be develop and also the appropriate methodology as
well as the methods which define the strategies to use in teaching practices and finally
to find the Techniques which define my own teaching style in real life work. (Larsen-
Freeman, 200)
First, I focused myself in the approach of my teaching practice because before
planning my practice I need to know in what approach is the curriculum oriented, if
communicative approach or even SLA, SFL wherever of those approach. Well, once I
have the MINED (MINED, 2011) Program I realized about real purpose of this program
is to teach English in the communicative approach. All in all of this MNED program
reflect a hard working designed plan because it was carefully designed in order to make
student learn the language since first grade to high school, in high school students are
suppose to be able to speak the language, to interview people, make suggestions and so
on. Now, I figure up what the approach is and what competences are needed to
increase or develop in this teaching practice.
Communicative Approach, because my teaching practice is going to be develop
in here el Salvador, I link up my practice with the MINED program, here I found that
the mayor objective is to achieve the communicative competence but also take into
account the linguistic as extra linguistic dimension of language, when I talk about
communicative competences, I am referring to the ability to use vocabulary, grammar
as well as the ability to form appropriate utterances and using it appropriately in real
life. Now, that I have found the approach in my teaching practice I will based my
practice in the principle of this approach because the whole MINED program is based
in communicative competence because of that I have to follow the same approach in
order to achieve the main goal of this one which is to improve and increase students
ability to communicate through the language, and also following the program but I will
make change in it, I mean I have to create my own teaching style ,otherwise I will not
succeed in teaching practice. Whereas the student does not have the competence
requirement I have to adapt myself into their position in that way engaging them to
learn the language, maybe the basis thing in order to make them to communicate
themselves, in this way I will be arrived to the goals of communicative competences.
However, in despite of the communicative approach and also based in MINED
program its little hard or maybe easy to find up the appropriately methodology to use
in this program because as many teaching practice as experimented teacher know what
to use and how to use in a lesson. The methodology is a mixed of method to use in
order to establish a good learning process, its a series of method, materials, principles,

activities, and all those things which are involve in it. In my own, the right
methodology is that one, which facilitates students interaction between them, teacher
student in classroom. The whole activities that I will use it have to be focus in the
communicative approach, the techniques, and methods have to be dealing with the
competences that I need to develop. The MINED program figured out a least of unit to
develop during the whole process of learning there is a guide whit its objectives to gain
at the end of the course but, its up to the teacher how to apply the program as well as
how accomplish with the main goal of the approach and its objectives.
On the other hand, we need to consider what method will work whit the
previews unit or topic to be develop in the classroom, if there the needed of use audio-
lingual method, direct method, TPR which involve interaction in order to understand
the language and its meaning, Silent way, and all the methods which lead us as a
teacher how to give instructions, develop of the lesson, and also what kind of strategies
to use in the lesson according to the method that I will use it, now if my class is
completely of smart students or event specials case with a low learning I have to
include the best methods in the methodology which best appeal whit that kind of
student in my classroom. Because of the method it is a series of step which lead us to
accomplished a specific things in this case the appropriately mixed of method will
guide me how to treat or manage with different learning style as well as different
learning purpose within the teaching practice. And finally, to conclude whit this part I
can say that the right method it has to do with the kind of activities and strategies that I
will use in the lesson, depend on the unit requirement the proper method and principle
to use it in the lesson.
Once we have the specific method or even a mixed of method is easy to identify
the importance of the strategies and techniques to use within the lesson because the
method gave us the step, tools, and principle about the coming activities, the methods
lead us how to do the activities and what kind of strategies and techniques would most
likely with our students and also the program too. I realized about the importance of
the good strategies when teaching because according to my methodology, a blended of
method describe the proper way to teach. I cannot teach without methods, without
strategies and techniques because I will lost in the procedure, otherwise I will be
teaching in a wrong way because I will be doing anything else but not teaching, thats
way I will lead my TP by following the appropriate methodology, my own principles,
my on teaching style and finally I will be always in search about what to do next, if
there is the needed of reinforcement and finally try to engage student to work in
collaboration with the right kind of strategies which energized the learning
environment through the collaboration in the classroom. In short, the right method, the
right strategies and techniques I will use in the lesson.

3- In your teaching designing include IT or how to teach English on-line. Define e-
learning and blended learning.
E-Learning and Blended learning
E-learning is known as virtual learning because active learning it is involve in it
through the use of the technology, nowadays we teacher are wrapped, rounded of new
technology, we teacher are updating day a day because we can use the technology
resources in teaching practice by making test online, interacting whit each other,
making debate online, and also sharing with other people around the world about
what we have done but also e-learning mean to use all those technology resources in the
lesson in order to be innovating day by day because we are interacting in a world whit
the best tool which is the technology. In addition, e-learning in the classroom facilitate
the way students learn and acquired the language because we can use a varieties of
resources in order to establish a good learning environment, furthermore the use of
instructional technology help teachers how to energized the lessons plus enthusiasm
within the classroom.
The other side of the coin, blended learning in teaching practice play an
important role because as usually we teacher sometimes prefer the traditional way,
teaching without innovation, just doing things in a systematic way of teaching for
instance there are teacher who gave his/her class just reading material, dictate the
class, or even just stand in the same place without movement around the room but they
never innovate the lesson because what they teach is already known for them, because
of that they can manage the lesson and even though traditional learning do not require
to be in search about what to do next because its simple to use the same things that
they have already used in last practice. However, the blend learning in this case mean
to be up date teachers because whether we have the resources on hands we have to use
in lesson, it is a mixed of learning because we sometimes can use traditional learning
but also e-learning at the same time in order to be innovate as teacher, making class
active learning through the students interaction in this leaning process.
All in all, I have arrived at the conclusion reflecting on my own about teaching
practice that I am about to performed, and I realized that teaching is more than
planning a lesson or even just put a series of activities to follow in order to grade
student as simple as like that students will learn, but teaching goes dipper because it is
involve more than planning, as a teacher we have to be in advanced, we need to know
what to do? What to do next? And how we will achieve the goals of the program? But
also there are principles to follow, method, methodology, strategies and at least the
techniques to use in order to define our teaching style because as a teacher I cannot
teach if I do not have define my teaching philosophy, what do I believe because
principles tell us what to do and how. Now, in my teaching practice I would like to
improve the teaching principles by practicing and also I will define my methodology

and method and strategies according to my students needs but first of all I have to
oriented my lesson to the approach in which my practice is linked up. And finally I do
not like the traditional method of teaching because Ive been working with technology
and I think its the best way to teach by, and also the learning process its in
continuously changes, is always up dating day a day thats way I will use instructional
technology in order to emphasized the e-learning in the lesson.
About my teaching style, I can say that I have to define my own teaching style
because I can follow the program, but its up to me how to apply it, how to invest my
time planning a good methodology which will lead me at the main goal of the approach
but also my teaching philosophy is the one which will defined my teaching progress,
style and belief during my practice, in addition to blended learning I will try to improve
the traditional way of teaching because I will use all the technological resources in order
to make the lesson more appropriate to the English environment and at least to achieve
the main goal of the approach.
