Summary

Symptom
This note contains frequently asked questions for the consumption of planned
independent requirements. If the consumption works as you want it to but problems
still occur when you reduce the independent requirements AFTERWARDS, refer
toNote 772857.
The questions dealt with here are as follows:
1. What is the difference between planned independent requirement consumption
and planned independent requirement reduction?
2. Which consumption parameters (Consumption mode/consumption period) are
taken into account?
3. Where can I check whether a planned independent requirement is consumed or
against which requirements it is consumed?
4. Why is a change to the strategy group or a consumption-relevant change in
Customizing ineffective?
5. Which settings are required to consume calls for stock transfers with planned
independent requirements?
6. How I can flexibly define against which material requirements planning (MRP)
elements planned independent requirements are consumed?
7. The availability check against planned independent requirement returns an
unexpected result. What has to be checked?
8. Why are monthly or weekly requirements not consumed even though the
assignment requirement is in the same period?
9. I am using several active planned independent requirement items. Can I control
the order in which they are consumed?
10. Why is a planned independent requirement not consumed against a customer
requirement even though it is in the consumption period?
11. What should I do if customer requirements are not consumed because they
are not transferred to the material requirements planning or they have an incorrect
assignment indicator?
12. Why are planned independent requirements not consumed against
requirements in storage locations that are planned separately or that are excluded
from the material requirements planning?
13. Can I ensure that customer requirements are consumed only with planned
independent requirements if the respective requirements types are linked using/by
the strategy (Transaction OPPS)?
14. I am using the MD_PIR_FLEX_CONS BAdI. Why is an MRP element not
consumed with a planned independent requirement even though this should occur
according to the implementation?

Reason and Prerequisites
FAQ
Solution
1.Question:
What is the difference between planned independent requirement consumption
and planned independent requirement reduction ?
Answer:
The consumption reduces planned independent requirements dynamically,
whereas the reduction physically reduces the planning quantity and increases the
withdrawal quantity accordingly.
For example:You create a planned independent requirement with 100 pieces.
This planned independent requirement is consumed against a sales order with 10
pieces. The planning quantity and withdrawal quantity remain the same (see
MD63) but the planned independent requirement is displayed in the
stock/requirements list (MD04) with the quantity 90. The independent
requirements reduction occurs when you post the goods movement, in this case,
with the goods issue for the sales order. The planning quantity of the planned
independent requirement is reduced to 90 pieces and the withdrawal quantity is
increased from 0 to 10 (see MD63). In the stock/requirements list, the planned
independent requirement is still displayed with 90 pieces despite the reduced
planning quantity because when you post the goods issue, the customer
requirement against which the planned independent requirements had been
consumed also disappears.
2.Question:
Which consumption parameters (Consumption mode/consumption period) are
taken into account?
Answer:
The parameters maintained in the material master (material requirements planning
view 3) have the highest priority. If you do not specify a consumption mode, the
system uses the consumption parameters from the MRP group that is assigned to
the material. If a consumption mode is not specified there, the consumption mode
is set to '1' by default (backward consumption only) with a (backward)
consumption period of 999 days. This means that the consumption cannot be
deactivated because the consumption parameters have not been maintained. The
consumption periods are calculated in workdays.
3.Question:
Where can I check whether a planned independent requirement is consumed or
against which requirements it is consumed?
Answer:
a) In the total requirements display (MD73), you can display details about which
assignment requirements (customer requirements, dependent requirements,
reservations, calls for stock transfers) are used to consume a planned
independent requirement.
b) In the stock/requirements list (MD04) or the MRP list (MD05), planned
independent requirements are displayed with their planning quantity minus the
consumed quantities. Planned independent requirements that have been
completely consumed are not displayed.
c) In the planned independent requirements maintenance (MD61, MD62, MD63),
you can display the consumed quantities on the 'Schedule lines' tab page (Menu
path 'Settings' -> 'Consumed quantity').
4.Question:
Why is a change to the strategy group or a consumption-relevant change in
Customizing ineffective?
Answer:
When you create a new planned independent requirements item, Customizing
data is stored in the corresponding database table (PBIM or PBID) and not
adjusted later. When you delete and recreate a planned independent
requirements item in Transaction MD62, the changed Customizing data is not
taken into account either because the existing data record receives only a deletion
indicator and is then reactivated. To physically delete the data record, you must
completely reorganize an existing planned independent requirements item
(Transactions MD74, MD75, MD76). With the new entry, a new data record is
created with the current Customizing settings (see Note 166267).
Changes to the consumption mode and consumption periods are immediately
effective.
5.Question:
Which settings are required to consume calls for stock transfers with planned
independent requirements?
Answer:
a) For the consumption of a planned independent requirement with final
assembly, the 'Mixed MRP' indicator must be set to '1' in the material master.
The consumption indicator of the planned independent requirement must be set
to '3' (see the 'Item' tab page in Transaction MD63). When you create a planned
independent requirement, the system uses the default value from Customizing
Transaction OMP6.
b) For the consumption of a planned independent requirement without final
assembly, the 'Mixed MRP' indicator must be set to '3' in the material master.
The consumption indicator of the planned independent requirement must be set
to '3' (see the 'Item' tab page in Transaction MD63). When you create a planned
independent requirement, the system uses the default value from Customizing
Transaction OMP6.
c) A consumption with planned independent requirements of a planning material
is not possible.
6.Question:
How I can flexibly define against which MRP elements planned independent
requirements are consumed?
Answer:
Use 'Planning consumption indicator' on the item view of the planned independent
requirements maintenance (MD61, MD62, MD63) to determine whether a planned
independent requirement is consumed against customer requirements,
reservations, dependent requirements and calls for stock transfers. The
MD_PIR_FLEX_CONS BAdI, which allows a more detailed differentiation based
on the MRP elements, has been implemented for Release 4.7. In previous
releases, you can implement this BAdI using modification Note 127370.
7.Question:
The availability check against planned independent requirement returns an
unexpected result. What has to be checked?
Answer:
Note 622299 describes the general procedure and also frequently asked
questions.
8.Question:
Why are monthly or weekly requirements not consumed even though the
assignment requirement is in the same period?
Answer:
Planned independent requirements that are created as monthly requirements or
weekly requirements are internally set to the first workday of the period. This is the
requirements date in the stock/requirements list and the relevant date for the
consumption.
For example:In the material master, a 10 days backward consumption is defined.
A monthly requirement for JAN/2005 is created. The first workday of the month is
JAN/03/2005. A customer requirement with the requirements date JAN/20/2005 is
not consumed because there are more than 10 workdays between the customer
requirement and the planned independent requirement. For consumption and
reduction, it does not make any difference whether the planned independent
requirement was created as the JAN/2005 monthly requirement or as the
JAN/03/2005 daily requirement.
9.Question:
I am using several active planned independent requirement items. Can I control
the order in which they are consumed?
Answer:
No. Schedule lines for planned independent requirements items with the same
consumption-relevant settings, which only differ in 'Version' or 'Requirement plan
number' for example, are both used for consumption and reduction at the same
time.
10.Question:
Why is a planned independent requirement not consumed against a customer
requirement even though it is in the consumption period?
Answer:
It is a prerequisite that the 'Consumption indicator' of the planned independent
requirement (ZUVKZ) corresponds to the 'Assignment indicator' of the customer
requirement (VPZUO) and provides the consumption (values '1', '2' or '3'). You can
check these values by calling the detailed dialog box for the corresponding MRP
element in the stock/requirements list. The field is not displayed for customer
requirements that do not provide any consumption (VPZUO = ' '). The values are
copied to the corresponding database tables (PBIM/ PBID, VBBE/VBBS) when
you create the planned independent requirements item or the customer
requirement and they are not adjusted if the planning strategy or Customizing
settings are changed (see question 4)
You must also ensure that the 'Planning consumption indicator' (VERVP) provides
a consumption with customer requirements. You can display this on the detail
dialog box for the planned independent requirements in the stock/requirements list
(MD04) or in the item view of the independent requirements maintenance (MD61,
MD62, MD63). Any changes to this indicator affect the consumption immediately.
11.Question:
What should I do if customer requirements are not consumed because they are
not transferred to the material requirements planning or they have an incorrect
assignment indicator?
Answer:
The settings of the requirements class that is found (Transaction OVZG) control
the transfer of requirements to the material requirements planning. If customer
requirements are not create as you want them to be, refer to point 7 of Note
547277 and also to Note 207942. These notes describe how the requirements
class is determined.
12.Question:
Why are planned independent requirements not consumed against requirements
in storage locations that are planned separately or that are excluded from the
material requirements planning?
Answer:
See Note 545327.
13.Question:
Can I ensure that customer requirements are consumed only with planned
independent requirements if the respective requirements types are linked by the
strategy (Transaction OPPS)?
Answer:
No. The consumption indicator and the assignment indicator that are derived from
the respective requirements type are relevant for the consumption (see question
10).
For example:You have assigned two strategies with different planned
independent requirements and customer requirement types to the planning
strategy group that is used. However, if all requirements types provide a
consumption of a planned independent requirement with final assembly, the
planned independent requirements and customer requirements are both used for
the consumption at the same time.
14.Question:
I am using the MD_PIR_FLEX_CONS BAdI. Why is an MRP element not
consumed with a planned independent requirement even though this should occur
according to the implementation?
Answer:
The BAdI allows you to determine in greater detail than you can using the previous
values of 'Planning consumption indicator' which requirements should be
consumed. However, other consumption-relevant settings must also be fulfilled
(for example, consumption indicator = assignment indicator for customer
requirements; Mixed MRP for stock transfers).
