World Environment Day (WED) is a monthly/ an annual event that is aimed at being

the biggest and most widely celebrated global day for positive environmental
action/inactivity. WED activities take place every month / all year round but climax on
5 June every year/ on day 5 of every month , involving everyone from everywhere.
WED celebration began in 1972/ 1982 and has grown to become the one of the main
vehicles through which the UN impedes / stimulates worldwide awareness/ ignorance
of the environment and discourages/ encourages political attention and action.
WED is also a day for people from different age groups /all walks of life to come
together to ensure a cleaner/ dirtier, bluer/ greener and brighter/ darker direction for
themselves and future generations.
No one/ Everyone counts in this initiative and WED relies on you to make this happen!
We call for action /inactivity organize a neighborhood clean-up, stop using plastic bags
and get your community to do the same, plant a tree or better yet organize a collective tree
planting effort, walk to work, start a recycling drive . . . the possibilities are endless.

5 JUNE 2014
The UN General Assembly declared 2014 as the International Year of Small Island Developing
States (SIDS). Therefore, World Environment Day 2014 will shine the spotlight on SIDS.
Climate change is a major _challenge for SIDS, as global warming is causing ocean levels to rise
Due to their small size and isolation ,SIDS are more vulnerable to natural and environmental
disasters, climate change and sea-level rise.

The global sea level has risen by about 10 to 25 cm. over the last 100 years.
Sea level rise is attributable to global warming. Humanity's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
are leading to changes in climatic patterns. The most harmful GHG emitted by human activity
carbon dioxide -- accounts for 85% of the increase in the Earths temperature in the past ten
years.
When you save energy you reduce the use of fossil fuels coal oil and gas-- the greatest
source of human carbon dioxide output. Simple steps to reduce your carbon footprintlike
turning off lights and appliances when not in use, switching to compact fluorescents,
carpooling or biking-- can help.
UNEP Goodwill Ambassadors Gisele Bndchen, Don Cheadle, Ian Somerhalder and Yaya
Tour are sending an SOS to the world on behalf of Small Island Developing States.
Their message in the bottle: "We are all connected. The challenges faced by
islands will face us all. So, every action we take to reduce waste and mitigate climate
change counts. Join one of our teams and pledge to make a difference by taking action for
WED."

Just a castaway
An island lost at sea
Another lonely.. day
With no one here but me
More loneliness..
Than any man could bear
Rescue me before I fall into despair..

I'll send an SOS to the world
I'll send an SOS to the world
I hope that someone gets my
Message in a bottle [x2]

A year has passed since I wrote my note.
But I should have known this right from the start
Only hope. can keep me together
Love can mend your life.
But love can break your heart..

I'll send an SOS to the world
I'll send an SOS..to the world
I hope that someone gets my [x3]
Message in a bottle [x2]

Walked out this morning
Don't believe what I saw
A hundred billion bottles.
Washed up on the shore
Seems I'm notalone at being alone
A hundred billion castaways..
Looking for a home..

I'll send an SOS to the world
I'll send an SOS. to the world
I hope that someone gets my [x3]
Message in a bottle [x2]

Sending out an SOS
