BERNE!KNOX!WESTERLO HIGH SCHOOL ! MOCK DWI CRASH
May also marks the month of
proms for high schools all over the
region. In past years, high schools
have teamed with rst responder
a genci es to demons t r ate a
simulated DWI crash to give
students an up#close view of the
devastating results of a DWI
crash. This year Berne#Knox#
Westerlo High School teamed
with Berne Fire Department,
Albany County Sheri%s Office,
Albany County EMS, Helderberg
Ambul ance, and Fredendal l s
Funeral Home to pl ay thei r
respective rolls. The simulation
was conducted in front of the
BKW High School. Students were
selected to be victims of the
crash while the re department
conducted an extradition, EMS
stabilized a patient whom was
transported via ambul ance, a
deputy arrested the driver for
DWI, and a fatal victim was
driven away in a funeral hurst.
Entirely realistic from the
lights and sirens, chain saws,
victims pleads and screams for
hel p, f i el d s obr i et y tes t s ,
handcuffs, and a DWI arrest.
Students stood behind crime scene
DO NOT CROSS tape to have a
front seat view of the accident.
The dramati c i mpact of the
simulation sends a bold message:
DO NOT DRINK AND
DRIVE.

POLICE MEMORIAL
The Police Officers Memorial and the annual
Remembrance Ceremony was held in the City of
Albany on Tuesday May 6th. A Memorial Mass was
held at St. Marys Church honoring the memory and
sacrice of law enforcement o"cers that died in the
line of duty. Law enforcement agencies from across
the state attended the ceremony and took part in the
Procession to the Memorial Wall which is located at
the Empire State Plaza. The granite memorial lists
the names of more that 1,300 fallen police o"cers
and law enforcement personnel. This year the names
of 27 o"cers were added to the wall.
The Memorial was dedicated in 1991 based on a
design concept submitted by Col leen Dil lon
Bergman, the daughter of New York State Trooper
Emerson J. Dillon, JR, who was killed in the line of
duty in 1974. Engraved on the name plate on the wall
is a quote from Mrs. Bergman: It doesnt matter !o$
%hich agency they came, the feeling and loss is experienced
the sam&. The names of the fallen o"cers are
engraved on the wall in random order regardless of
rank.
