COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Research Methodology course introduces students to the principles of social research
and the relation with creative arts: literary writing, theatre, performance, dance, visual art,
film and other art medium. Particular attention will be placed on art-based methodologies.
Topics that will be covered include the formulation of research design, problem statement,
research objectives, literature reviews, theoretical framework, data collection and analysis
issues of design and conceptualisation.

COURSE OUTCOMES
At the end of the course, students should be able to:

1. Demonstrate the fundamentals of art-based research methodologies. (C3)
2. Formulate the conceptual research design. (A4)
3. Produce research proposal with sound understanding of the fundamentals of learned
research methods (P4)

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:

A. Attendance

1. Class

ABSENTEEISM Please refer to UiTM Academic Regulations [2003] that state: Students who do not
attend classes up to 80% of contact hours WILL NOT BE ALLOWED to sit for Final Exams, or their Final
Coursework will not be assessed.

Class CTF 532: Attendance is COMPULSORY. Absence is not allowed in this class unless you have a
sensible reason supported by a black and white document: Medical leave, official letters or any other
evidence. Thus, 2 marks will be deducted from your overall marks.

Attendance is COMPULSORY. Absence is not allowed unless you have a sensible reason supported by a
black and white document: Medical leave, official letters or any other evidence. Thus, 5 marks will be
deducted from your overall marks.

2. Punctuality

Punctuality is a must for CTF 532. Those who fail to comply, will not allow to enter the class. Thus, will be
considered as absence.


B. Dress code

Please comply to UiTM dress code. Those who fail to do so, will be requested to leave the class or go
back and change. Thus, for those who fail to come back to class, will be considered as absence.

C. Plagiarism

Plagiarism is defined as copying or imitating sentences, phrases or languages and ideas of another
author (s), hence presenting them as your own work, and includes submitting the same work to more
than one lecturer for credit in different courses without prior written permission from the lecturers.

Plagiarism is therefore, a serious academic offence, which will result in appropriate penalties, to be
determined at the discretion of the course lecturer, in consultation with the facultys divisional chair. It is
recommended that students consult the Policy on Plagiarism published by the Academic Affairs
Division.

Indeed, it is a common process in an essay writing to refer and summerised the work or ideas of others.
Eventually, the aim of an essay, is to present the student original academic argumentation and
discussion. Therefore, to avoid plagiarism, please do quote or cite the source (s), and do not present
them as your own sentences, phrases or ideas. It is important to note, that plagiarism is totally
unacceptable as it is a form of intellectual dishonesty.

Penalties will range from failure of an assignment to possible failure of the course.


D. Datelines

Datelines given are a serious matter. Therefore, its has to be taken seriously. All coursework should be
submitted on time: on the given date and time. Assignments submitted after the datelines of the given
DATE and TIME, 5 marks will be deducted from the student overall marks. If there is/ are any problems in
completing or submitting your assignment, please contact the lecturer (in advance) to discuss the
situation: at least a week before the datelines. Last minute information or reasons will not be
entertained
