't is apparent that the (se of Buffy%Xander based fanfiction is these days mostly a #ay to
attempt to remo$e the disgust of the later seasons from the minds of the )oyal Xander fan
and more than often fans of the series before it*s slide into disrepute during the later
season" although this is also usually ta+en up by alternate uni$erse fics such as
,enha#+*s -ourney$erse" .hite .ere#olf*s /hoeni 0isings and the #or+s of 1 2cott

Buffy%Xander parings became pre$alent during the seasons t#o and three mainly around
the time of the return of Angelus and the time soon after the return of Buffy after her
escape to )A and her subse4uent return soon after the beginning of season 5" these come
into the section of 6riendship%romance follo#ed by possibilities of long term relationship"

,his time of 1999 to 2000 became the real pea+ of Buffy%Xander fandom #ith o$er se$en
hundred members of the BX<fanfic list and the increase of said fanfic at multiple #ebsite
many of #hich are no# defunct" this is also the time that the 6anfic genre became more
than the Bubbly BX fic that had been the basis of the fandom" this #as the time of the
B%X X%=ther angst fanfiction; best described in the 6iction 7'nto ,he >ight* by

.ith the decline of B@X fiction o$er the last fe# years the B%X fanfiction has reached a
ne# classification that of the Anti Buffy fanfics of B%X !ate%Angst based fanfictions"

,he !ate%Angst fanfictions mainly stem from the same positions that the Buffy%Xander
fluff fanfiction come from that of the )ie during the 3pisode Becoming from the end of
2eason ,#o" ,he /ushing out of Xander during the start of 2eason 6our and most
recently the Alternate uni$erses built around 2easons si and se$en attempting to remo$e
the disgust many people sa# #ith the Buffy%2pi+e 7relationship* of those seasons"

2o as it is ob$ious the change in the characters of Both main characters for these fiction
types has changed the #riting style of many #riters in$ol$ed in the Xander based
Xander?one as #ell as the #riting of many at the 6anfiction&net #ebsite" the disgust
at the treatment of Xander and the production of the character of Buffy has made
many #riters gi$e up completely of Bust not care anymore; #hile others do still #rite
fanfiction base on the series it is not 4uite the pull it once #as&
