Tortuga Gigante de Galpagos (Geochelone elephantophus)
Tal vez es la especie smbolo de Galpagos, se
estima hay una poblacin de 15.000 individuos aproximadamente, mide hasta 1.5 metros sobre su caparazn y puede pesar sobre los 250 kg. Esta gran especie tiene alrededor de 14 sub especies de las cuales 3 estn extintas ya. Las especies sobrevivientes por subespecies vara desde la tortuga de La Pinta representada por su ltimo individuo el solitario George que actualmente vive en cautiverio, hasta la Tortuga Alcedo de la cul hay ms de 5.000 individuos. El ciclo reproductivo de estas tortugas es determinado en gran parte por el clima, la mayora de tortugas habitan islas con reas hmedas donde viven la mayor parte del ao. El apareamiento se da principalmente en la poca clida (entre Marzo y Abril), la cpula es lenta y puede durar varias horas y es acompaada por varios sonidos como rugidos por parte del macho. Las hembras pueden poner alrededor de 20 huevos similares a una pelota de ping pong, ellas cubren el nido de arena o tierra y lo orinan a manera de proteccin. La incubacin de huevos toma entre 120 y 140 das y despus de luchar por salir a la superficie, las tortugas bebes buscan un lugar cerrado para evitar ser predadas por culebras, gavilanes, bhos, algunas aves y animales domsticos introducidos por el hombre. Se estima que una tortuga de este tipo puede vivir 150 aos, a los 20 o 25 aos es la edad hbil para reproducirse, el crecimiento de las tortugas depende de la disponibilidad de comida.

Pingino de Galpagos (Spheniscus mendiculus)
Una ave adicional en el lista de las nicas del Archipilago. Su color es negro con blanco, normalmente viven en colonias grandes en las islas del occidente (Fernandina, Isabela, tambin algo de Santiagoy Bartolom) donde el agua es ms fra, hay una poblacin entre 1000 y 3000 parejas. Anidan en huecos dentro de las rocas cerca de la costa, ponen 2 huevos de los cuales normalmente uno sobrevive, la incubacin del huevo dura ms o menos 40 das y una vez que la cra nace, deben pasar 60 das para que el juvenil sea capaz de defenderse y vivir por si mismo. Estas aves son buena nadadoras como los cormoranes.
Galapagos Penguin (Spheniscus mendiculus)
