ManIS is a real-time production (factory shop floor)
inventory tracking system for manufacturing industry.
ManIS achieves that by enabling or supporting these
capabilities:
1. On-the-spot data collection - provides an automated
and simplified data entry method for registering
inventory movement using barcode tag
2. Immediate data reporting - provides a collection of
tailored reports in various formats based on the same
collected data
ManIS was installed in a garment company with
production output of over 100.000 pieces per month.
The system has been operational since Jan 2008.
ManIS was deployed covering 4 areas
of production processes, namely:
bundling, sewing, inspecting and
finishing.
Data entry (i.e. barcode scanning)
using ManIS at bundling and sewing is
done at bundle level (max 20 pieces)
while at inspecting and finishing is
done at piece level to increase
operational efficiency.
Garment repair is treated at piece
level while allowing the flexibility of
moving the garment from one process
to every other processes directly.
ManIS helps to quickly find the original
tailor responsible for garment repair.
Garment grading up (e.g. grade B to
A) is supported.
Garment reclassification from one
production order to another is
supported.
Marketing and PPIC monitor
production output through ManIS.
ManIS allows production team to get real-time actual
production output information (manual and error-prone
reporting vs. accurate and real-time reporting).
ManIS enables accountability and traceability of all
inventory up to a single piece level if required (who
does what and when to any inventory piece).
ManIS provides insight that can potentially reduce
inventory lost and waste (accurate basis for physical
stock-take).
ManIS is capable of delivering productivity information
useful for benchmarking and reward (how many
inventory pieces by whom).
ManIS reduces overhead in manual reporting and
provides consistent information across departments
within the company (paper based vs. online).
All those benefits, ultimately positions ManIS to facilitate
cost-saving efforts by the company.
ManIS data collection function makes use of low-cost
and widely utilized barcoding technology (adjusted with
other technology if required).
ManIS reporting function is web-based and can be
opened up for the internet access.
ManIS system allows the production process or
inventory flow to be configured based on company need
(flexibility regardles of manufacturing industry type).
ManIS system can be enhanced to feed data into other
systems, such as ERP.
Future roadmap includes alert or notification sending to
mobile handset.
