This document provides calculations to check the design of a spreader beam and lifting plates used to lift a 286,000 kg load. The spreader beam pipe properties and material are specified. Stress calculations are shown to check that the induced compressive and axial stresses in the spreader beam are less than the allowable values. Additionally, calculations are presented to check that the induced shear, tensile, bending and combined stresses in the lifting plates are less than the allowable values based on the plate material properties. Finally, the weld size and strength are checked to verify it can withstand the load.
