The Brian Webb Dance Company is a unique organization, not only because of their presenting of world premier performances, but also because they are recognized as the largest complete season of contemporary dance west of Toronto. The BWDC has the resources to help develop contemporary dance; and in addition, promoting local and emerging artists within the Edmonton dance community. Through the companys residencies and their youth initiative program the BWDC has the ability to really extend themselves into the dance community and reach fresh audiences. The BWDC needs to fundraise because it is a not-for-profit organization and solely relies on the generous donations from their members, donors, sponsors and the government. With sponsor support the BWDC can maintain and build upon the legacy of the companys commitment to producing and developing contemporary dance for Edmonton youth. Audience members who attend the BWDCs shows come for the appreciation of dance and to experience the power, freedom and originality of contemporary dance expression. Developing dance appreciation in high school students as young adults will benefit the youth initiative program by continually revealing contemporary visual performances to the youth. Students will undergo emotional, cultural and artistic exposure through contemporary dance; therefore, providing the young dance supporters with opportunities to become involved in the dance community. Donating to the youth initiative program Giving Back the Experience will benefit the BWDC by allowing high school students to have the ability to attend dance shows, pre- show and post-show talks, and workshops.

Project Giving Back the Experience The project Giving Back the Experience is to collect donations to support the purchasing of all the tickets for the youth initiative program. The cost of hosting 600 high school students throughout the season will cost $21,000, and supporting accessibility to the art for youth is one aspect of what the BWDC is about. The youth initiative program is about providing a rich contemporary dance experience to these younger dance supporters. The program offers much more than just the dace experience the student will also be involved in the pre-show and post-show talks, and the workshops available.
Purpose and Objectives The main purpose of the project Giving Back the Experience is to obtain funding through corporate donation to support the youth initiative program. The BWDC is requesting a donation of $21,000 to cover the costs of all the students tickets for this years season. Donations will enrich the lives of these youth in hopes of creating a stronger appreciation for the arts. As individuals art can be a powerful force that impacts a person on a psychological and emotional level that that is determined by ones perceptions. In society our insights of what beauty is, is influenced by the general publics definition; and by that definition art becomes a narrow subject that is overly simplified. The BWDC strives to demolish those conceptions of art, and allow high school students to develop their own understanding through the youth initiative program. The BWDC wants to actively convey to the public a positive difference that the arts make in the individual and collective lives of youth in Edmonton. One step would be to establish and build relationship opportunities with the high school student between artists, artisans, and arts organizations will generate more involvement. Communication of these groups throughout the season will establish communication, understanding, appreciation, and relationships. Another stage would be to build supportive relationships with high school students, in a way that provides a rich dance experience for the purpose of giving the students access to contemporary dance that will enable them to feel engaged and communicated towards. Accomplishing this goal the BWDC will work with the faculty of the high schools to create effective programing that helps the students develop an appreciation for art.

Appendix Vision Dance celebrates our aliveness in the moment and dance is always about the dancing; the dancing that is taking place right before the audience. The dancing body feels its senses totally engaged and communicates this aliveness to the viewing public. The dance is not complete until it is received by the audience. This exchange between the dancer and the viewer is what makes contemporary dance alive in the here and now. The Brian Webb Dance Company is a producer and presenter of contemporary dance. The BWDC is a community-minded, dynamic, artistic builder: a team builder. We build our work through collaboration - the democratic exchange of ideas to create something new. Mission The mission of the BWDC is to foster dialogue between dance artists and audiences. As well as, building bridges between established and emerging artists and encouraging communication between professional artists is the commitment of the BWDC. The organizing interaction between the professional arts and educational institutions is a part of the programming that the BWDC offers and takes huge pride in.
