THE HONEST WOODCUTTER.

Tuck, tuck, tuck, the sound from Pak Halims axe. Once, there was a poor
woodcutter who works hard to make a living for his family. Everyday Pak
Halim would walk into the forest whistling happily with his strong, sharp axe
over his shoulder. With the axe he has, he could earn enough to buy food
for his family.
One day he was cutting a large tree near the riverside. Tuck, tuck, tuck
pieces of wooden flew fast at every stroke. The sound of the axe was heard
loudly throughout the forest.
After a while Pak Halim decided to rest for awhile. He leaned his axe
against the tree and turned to sit down. To his horror, he tripped over a
stone and accidently pushed his axe. His axe slid down the bank and
poops it falls into the river.
Pak Halim tries to look for his axe but the river was far too deep. The river
flowed over the lost treasure just as merrily as before.
What will I do? Pak Halim cried. I have lost my axe! How will I feed my
children now?
Just as he finished speaking, up from the lake rose a beautiful lady. She
was the water fairy of the river, and came to the surface when she heard
Pak Halims sad voice.
Why are you sad? She asked kindly. Pak Halim told her about his lost
axe and at once she sank beneath the surface. Moments later she
reappeared with an axe made of silver.
Is this you lost axe? she asked. Pak Halim thought of all the things he
could buy for his children with the silver! But the axe wasnt his, so he
shook his head, and answered, My axe was only made of metal.
The water fairy placed the silver axe next to Pak Halim and sank into the
river again. Moments later she reappeared with an axe made of gold.
Perhaps this is your lost axe? she asked.
Pak Halim looked at the axe and said loudly, Oh no! This is not my axe. It
is far too expensive than mine.
The water fairy placed the gold axe next to Pak Halim and sank into the
river again. Moments later she reappeared with the lost axe. Perhaps this
is your lost axe? she asked.
This is mine! Pak Halim cried. That is surely my lost axe!
Yes, now all the three axes are yours. They are gifts from the river,
because you have told the truth.
And that evening Pak Halim walked home with all the three axes on his
shoulder. Pak Halim and his family has all the good things now and they
lived happily ever after!
Thank you!!
