Abstract
The article presents the floristic investigation on some floral regions in the
Bulgarian vascular flora, for the time 1995-2006 year. New chorological data have
been given for the Thracian plain, the Rhodopes and the Black sea coast. Near 98 taxa
collected from the separated regions are presented, some species are new for the flora
of Bulgaria.

in the flora of Bulgaria
CAMPANULACEAE:
4580. 19680. Legousia pentagonia (L.)Thell. The species is new for the flora of
Western Rhodopi, founded by the way for village of Sestrimo on 20.06.2001 l., at 300
m altitude.
LAMIACEAE:
2060.09400. Clinopodium vulgare subsp. arundinarium (Boiss.)Nyman. The
subspecies is new for the flora of Bulgaria and is distributed by Southern slopes of the
Bessapara hills - Kotschagovski bair. The founded specimens possess corolla 17-18
mm length, calyx 11 mm long, lower calyx teeth 4 mm long, upper calyx teeth's c. 2,5
mm long, bracts and calyx covered with long patent hairs. (SO N 100184).
7720.32980. Stachys angustifolia Bieb. - The species is not recorded for the
Central Rhodopi. It is collected from the region between village Scobelevo and town of
Peruschtitza.
7720.33010. Stachys alpina L. New species for the flora of Thracian plain and
Central Rhodopi, along the river of Vatscha. Probably the species is distributed in the
plain places by descending from the Central Rhodopi. (SO N 100202).

the species.

for an irrigation, the town of Stamboliisky.

found only in the East Rhodopes.

2000. Cirsium polycephalum DC. New species for the Bulgarian flora collected
from the sea coast of the town of Sozopol. Up to this moment the species has been
recorded for Europe only from the neighbourhood of Istanbul in European Turkey. (SO
N 100215).
2000. Cirsium palustre (L.)Scop. The species is new for the Bulgarian flora. It is
collected from the Southern sea coast of the town of Sozopol, near moisture places. The
Bulgarian specimens have a sessile capitula and weaklest spines of the outer bracts 0,3-
1 mm to completely reduced spines at the inner bracts. (SO N 100182).

1680. Centaurea montana L. The species is new for the flora of Bulgaria,
distributed in Western Rhodopi, over the town of Peshtera, near the way for the locality
Snejanka, on the limestone rocks and soils. The plats was found also over village of
Jrebichko on the silicate rocks , but the founded specimens had simple and unbrached
stem.

known only for the flora of Pirin mountain. Now the plant was found on the vertical
limestone rocks near the way for village of Trigrad Central Rhodopes, which is
second location of the species in Bulgaria.
1530.6360. Cardamine impatiens L. - New species for the flora of the Thracian
plain. The river of Vatscha is new locality in the plain on 200 m altitude, in the forest
places near the river and coming in this places by descending from the Central
Rhodopi. (SO N 100148).
1530.6361. Cardamine pratensis L. - The species is new for the flora of Western
Rhodopi - the locality Zigovchark, on 1300 m altitude. Up to this moment it is known
only for Stara planina and Black sea coast.
1530.06340. Cardamine graeca L. New species for the flora of Central Rhodopi,
along the valley of Vatcha river, over town of Kritchim, on 200-700 m altitude.
0380.01770. Alyssoides bulgarica (Sagor.)Assen. The valley of Vatscha river
over the town of Kritchim is new locality of this Balcan endemic in Central Rhodopi. It
is ound near to the autoway for Devin, on 700-800 m altitude. Up to this moment the
species is known for the follwing localities in Central Rhodopi: near Assenovgrad,

Narechen, Batchkovo and Hvoina. The plant was found over village of Sapareva banja,
on 600 m altitude. The specimens from rocks over town of Assenovgrad have glabrous
stem and glabrous upper leaves. Var. Delipavlovii D.Georg. var.n. Descriptio: Caules
glabrescens. Folia superiora glabrata. Sepala setosa. In rupestribus calcareis supra urb.

RANUNCULACEAE
6790.27711. Ranunculus stojanovii Delip. The monarch properties near the town
of Stamboliisky are new secondary locality of this Bulgarian endemic. The
neighbourhood of the town of Stamboliisky by Vatscha river is new and new record of
this Bulgarian endemic species. Up to this moment the species was known only for
Western Rhodopi on 1150 m altitude. It meets on the ruderal communities, in
association with Crepis dobrogica Babck. The population have much density, but the

specimens are spread in very slightly area. The pasture and trampling exert a negative
influence.
6790.27920. Ranunculus psilostachys Grsb. - The species is unknown up to this
moment for Thracian plain an is new for the flora of the region. It meets along the river
of Vatscha, around the the village Kurtovo Konare and the neighbourhood of the town
of Stamboliisky on 200 m altitude. The specimens have atypic characteristic: var.
svetlensis D. Georg.: achenia pubescentia. (SO N 100142).This species is also new for
the flora of Central Rhodopi. Ranunculus sprunerianus Boissier is new for the flora of
Western Rhodopes, near village of Debrashtitza.
2650.2590. Delphinium albiflorum DC. This species is new for the flora of
Central Rhodopi - over town of Kritschim by the way for Devin. That is the second
locality of this Balkan endemic species in Bulgaria.

robust up to 2,2 m high, possessing (2) 3-10 in each fascicle of inflorescence. Thats
why the specimens are related to Verbascum pseudonobile Stoj. & Stef. independently
from the habitual resemblance to Verbascum nobile Vel. Probably these species are
result from a polyploidy. These observations as well as the rest chorological
information show close related connection between V. nobile and V. pseudonobile.

; tubus calycis 1,5-2 mm lg., glabrus vel raro subglabrus; dentes calycis tubi duplo-
triplo longiores, appresso pubescentia, ad apicem subglabres. Corolla 6-8 mm lg., albo-
rosea, roseo-nervata, glabra; vexillum carinae 1,5-2 mm longior; allae carinae duplo

Typus: In rupestribus calcareis supra urb. Assenovgrad, 300 m. a. 3.06.2003 l. More
characteristic features of the subspecies are: 1. Clearly glabrous calyx tube, rarely
subglabrous. 2. Standard 1,5-2 mm longer than the keel. 3. Teeth of legumen up to 0,5
mm long or tubercules. 4. Calyx 4-4,5, at the legume 5 mm long. 5. The middle tooth of
the lower calyx lip is shorter than the rest.
At subspecies miniata the corolla is pink or red with purple veins, tube and teeth
of the calyx (5-7 mm lg.) are with numerous erectopatent hairs and the standard is
equalling keel.

subsp. glandulosa (Vel.)D.Georg. st.n. The plant was found on Djendem tepe, Southern
slopes, town of Plovdiv. Subspecies arvensis also have ocasionally and very rare
glandular hairs upon the stem and leaves, that why densely glandular specimens
described as Buglossoides glandulosa (Vel.)R. Fern. may best treated as a geographic

stribrnyi Vel. - New species for Western Rhodopi - Kotshagovski bair. The plant was
found also over village of Kozarsko on the 700-800 m altitude, on limestone rocks, on
the hills between the villages Kozarsko and Jrebichko with very high density of the
populations. The specimens from villages of Novo selo and Curtovo conare have
completely glabrous corolla - var. Velenovskyi D. Georg. var.n. Tota corolla glabra.
0700.03230. Argusia sibirica (L.)Dandy. The species was found in a new locality of
Bulgaria southern from town of Varna, on maritime sands.

Rhodopi - near Peshtera and near to village of Radilovo.

Thracian plain, near village of Sinitevo and village Ognianovo, on 300-450 m altitude.
(SO N 100160). 2400.10310. Crocus olivieri J.Gay. The species is found on Northern
slopes of Bessapara hills, near village of Sinitevo, on 350 m altitude, but the local
people use the plant from the native environment as horticultural and decorative plant.
(SO N 100161). 4260.18330. Iris reichenbachii Heuff. The species is new for the
Thracian plain, near Kurtovo Konare, up to the quarry. (SO N 100158). 4260.18330.
Iris suaveolens Boiss. % Reut. - new species for Western Rhodopi.

0820.03750. Asphodeline lutea (L.)Reichenb. - New species for Central Rhodopi. It is
meet on all Northern slopes of Rhodopes - town of Krichim, town of Perustitza.

0340.01340. Allium atropurpureum W. & K. - new for the flora of Central and Western
Rhodopi.

6550.26510. Potentilla detommasii Ten. The species is new for the flora of the
Rodopes mountain - Western Rhodopi, near village of Debrastitza, on 400 m altitude.
The specimens have some different marks: subsp. kelvinia D. Georg. ssp.n. Descriptio:
Tota planta glanduloso villosa. Folia palmata cum 5 foliolis. Sepala externa longiora
sepala interna. - All plant densely glandular hairy together with eglandular silvery hairs.
(SO N 100210). 6550.26720. Potentilla supina L. New species for the flora of Western
Rhodopi, near a dam lake of Batak with very high density of the populations.
6550.26450. Potentilla astracanica Jacq. New species for the flora of Western Rhodopi

(Borb.)Stank. The species is presented on Djendem tepe in town of Plovdiv.

Saxifraga rotundifolia L. subsp. chrysosplenifolia (Boiss.)D.Webb. var. rhodopaea
(Vel.)D.Webb. The species and subspecies is new for the Thracian plain. (SO N
100214). CRASSULACEAE 7360.31270. Sedum ochroleucum Chaix. New species for
the flora of the Thracian plain, near village Ognianovo and village Sinitevo, near 450 m
altitude.
APIACEAE:
5680.23020. Oenanthe millefolia Janka. New species for the Western Rhodopi
flora, near Debrastitza, on 600 m altitude. (SO N 100146). 7430.31710. Seseli
tortuosum L. - New species for Central and Western Rhodopes: near town of Perustitza
and village Kozarsko. The species was found also for the hills between the villages
Banja and Pesnopoi. This is one of the latest flowering species of Apiaceae family in
the Bulgarian flora. 3300.13490. Ferulago campestris (Bess.)Grec. The species is new
for the flora of Central Rhodopi, near village of Brestovitza and town of Perustitza, on
400 m altitude. 5780.23490. Opopanax hispidus (Friv.)Grsb. New locality in the
Thracian plain of this species is Djendem tepe - Plovdiv, but the specimens are peculiar.
New species for Western Rhodopi - near Debrastitza. Opopanax hispidus (Friv.)Grsb.
var. longiala D. Georg. var. nova. Diagnosis: Ala fructus (1,2) 2 mm lata; var. hispidus
- Ala fructus 0,9-1,1 mm lata. 1810.08560. Chaerophyllum bysantinicum Boiss. The
species is new for floral region of the Black sea coast. The plant is collected from the
town of Michurin, in forest places. Bifora testiculata (L.)Roth. The species is collected
from limestone near Novo selo, Thracian plain. (SO N 100141). 6070.24550. Pastinaca
umbrosa Stev. New species for the flora of Western and Central Rhodopes and
Thracian plain (Town of Plovdiv, Stamboliiski) along the river sides of Vatsha.
Introductory plants: Impatiens glandulifera Royle - New for the flora of Western
Rhodopi - Sestrimo.
Note: The rare species are deposited like herbariums samples in the Herbarium
of Sofia University SO and Berlin herbarium - B.

II. New plant species reporting for the flora of Bulgaria
1. Ornithogalum oreoides Zahar. The species have being reported in Flora
Europaea for N. E. Bulgaria. In Bulgarian botanical references lack data for the exact
distribution of the species in the country. Up to this moment there is no data about real
presence of the species in the flora of the country: lack of the concrete locality. The
considered species has being confirmed for the Bulgarian flora, because it has being
collected in South Bulgaria, on the Bessapara hills, Thracian plain. The plant grows
upon carbonate soils on limestone terrains, on 350 m s. l.: Alanchal locality,
30.04.2000.
2. Leontodon taraxacoides (Vill.) Merat. subsp. taraxacoides. The species is new
for the Bulgarian flora. Up to this moment it has being not reported in the specialized
references for the country. The species has being found in the golf of Burgas, near town
of Burgas, on 50 m s. l., (collected on 09.08.2000).
3. Campanula persicifolia L. subsp. subpyrenaica (Timb.-Lagr.)Fedorov The
subspecies is new for the flora of Bulgaria. It has being found on the carbonate soils,
limestone terrains, Glavinishki rid locality, Bessapara hills, Thracian plain, 350 m s. l.

(collected on 13.06. 1997). Central Rhodopes (over town of Kritchim, 500 m s. l.) are
reported as second locality of this subspecies in the country.
4. Chenopodium ambrosioides L. The distribution of the species has being
placed under question on the territory of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast (near town of
Varna). The same species has not being marked for Bulgaria in Flora Europaea. The
species has being confirmed for Bulgaria, but it has being found along the riversides of
Vatscha: the Thracian plain (collected on 27.07.2000). The plant grows upon alluvial
soils and river sands. The plant inhabits only the riversides of Vatscha.
5. Solidago gigantea Ait. This introductory plant has being marked for Bulgaria
in Flora Europaea, but there is no information about concrete localities of the species
in the country. The species has being found along the river Vatscha between town of
Kritchim and village of Kurtovo Konare in Thracian plain and also near village of
Sestrimo together with Impatiens glandulifera also an introductory plant, Western
Rhodopes, 500 m s. l., (collected on 26.09.2000).

III. New taxonomic reports for the Balkan flora
1. Cerastium brachypetalum Pers. subsp. tenoreanum (Ser.) Soo. The revision of
the materials from the Herbarium of the Sofia University (SO) and collection of this
subspecies in the Tracian plain, near the Vatsha river and the village of Kurtovo
Konare, show that C. tenoreanum is characteristic for the Southern part of the Bulgarian
flora. The subspecies is new for the region of Western Rhodopi, near the village of
Debrastitza. The materials of this species collected by V. Stribrnyi are included in the
collection of SO (Herbarium of Sofia University).
2. Plants intermediate between Aremonia agrimonoides (L.)DC. subsp. pouzarri
Skalicky and subsp. agrimonoides occur in South Bulgaria. The morphological
transience of diagnostical features is very significant. Probably subspecies pouzarii is
best regarded as a variety: var. pouzarii (Skalicky) D.Georg. st.n.
3. Campanula persicifolia L. var. subpyrenaica (Timb.-Lagr.) D.Georg. st.n. (C.
s. Timb.-Lagr.). The plants similar to var. subpyrenaica with setulose ovary and
pedicels 2-10 mm long are distributed on limestone in South Bulgaria - Bessapara hills,
near the village of Glavinitza. On the Balkan peninsula var. sessiliflora
(C.Koch)D.Georg. st.n. (C.s. C. Koch) is being distributed on the same places as var.
subpyrenaica.
4. Lathyrus filiformis (Lam.)Gay from village of Ravnogor is new for the flora
of the Balkans.
5. Valerianella pelvica D. Georgieff sp. nova Holotype: [Bulgaria], Thracian
plain, village of Kapitan Dimitrievo, Bessapara hills, Alanchal rid locality, limestone,
350 m, UTM - KG- 76, 77, 30.04.2000, D. Georgieff; B 10 0000 292; Diagnosis:
Caules ad 10(-20) cm alti, hirsuti. Folia caulinaria basalia ad 17 mm lg. et ad 3 mm lt.,
spathulato-lanceolata, integerrima, obtusa; folia media lanceolata; folia caulinaria
superiora linearilanceolata, tota. Fructus circus 2 mm lg. et circus 1,5 mm lt.,
oblongovatus, quadriquatrus, dense hirsuti; loculi steriles bene evolutes; fructus calyce
duplo longior. Calyx pelviformis, ad 2 mm diam., sparse brevihirsutus, cum 6 dentes
multobreves et reducti ad marginem dentatum vel sepae incospicui; dentes calycis saepe
cum 1 pilo apicale vel cum aliquot pilis marginalibus; dens oppositus sulcus fructus

debiliter elevatus. Afiinitas: A specie proxima -Valerianella coronata (L.) DC.,
morphologia calycis et dentes reducti bene differt.
6. Valerianella pumila (L.)DC. Subsp. Brachystephana (Ten.) D.Georg. st.n.
(V.b. Ten.) The subspecies is new for the flora of the Thracian plain. The plant was
found southern from town of Stamboliisky.
