examsequence.
Youmustnotrunanypapersback-to-back.Allcandidatesmustsittheexamsimultaneously.

DisplaythecurrentYLE Notice to candidatesinsidetheexamroom.
Removeorcoverallhelpfulmaterial,suchaspostersornoticesinEnglish,
fromtheexamroom(exceptforsafetynotices).
Ensurethereisanaccuratemethodoftimingavailabletoallcandidates,forexamplebyhavingaclockatthe
frontoftheroom.
Writethecentrenumber,thenameoftheexam,andthepaper/componentonaboardoripchart.
Seating arrangements
Candidatesmustsitatadeskortable.

ThereareinstructionsintheIncidentssectionofthisbooklet.Inaddition,talktoyourCEMtoconrmyour
centresproceduresforadmittinglatecandidates,whattodoifacandidateisillduringtheexam,orcheats,orif
thereisanemergency.
Starting each test
Onlycandidates,supervisors,invigilatorsandInspectorsareallowedintheexamroom.Youmustnotallow
anyoneelseintotheexamroom.Inspectorswillalwaysprovideproofofidentity.
Youcantranslateinstructionsintothelocallanguageaslongasallpointsarecoveredandallcandidates
understandthem.
Before each paper:
Ensurethatthemobilephonesofallstafareswitchedof.
Showcandidatestotheirdeskwiththeircandidatenumber.
Tellthemtoswitchoftheirmobilephones,includinganyalarms.Thevibrateorsilentmodeisnotacceptable
asitcouldinterferewithListeningtestequipment.
Tellthemtoswitchofanyotherelectronicitems,includingalarmsontheirwatches.
Tellthemtoputmobilephonesandotherunauthoriseditemsinanareaawayfromtheirdesks.
Checkthattheyhavethenecessarypensorpencils.
Just before the test begins, go through the following points with the candidates.

During each test
Youmustinvigilatetheexamandensurethatthereisnomalpractice.
Invigilating the Listening test
OncetheListeningtesthasstarted,youmustnot
interruptitexceptinanemergency.
Youmustnotallowanybodytoenterorleavethe
roomduringtheListeningtest.
DuringtheListeningtest,youmusthaveagood
viewofallcandidates.
Lookoutforcandidates:
usingcameras,includingpencameras,or
electronicitems
behavingsuspiciously,suchasreadinghidden
notes,etc.
Youmustnotdoanyotheractivityintheexam
room,forexample,readingabookorworkingon
alaptop.
Youmustnotmovearoundtheroomduringthe
testunlessabsolutelynecessaryasitmayafect
candidateshearingofthetest.
Invigilating the Reading & Writing test
Youmustbealertatalltimesandregularlypatrol
theexamroom.
Lookoutforcandidates:
whoneedassistance(suchastoiletbreaks)
usingcameras,includingpencameras,or
electronicitems
behavingsuspiciously,suchasreadinghidden
notes,etc.
Youmustnotdoanyotheractivityintheexam
room,forexample,readingabookorworkingon
alaptop.
Room plans
Youmustcompleteanaccurateroomplanbefore the end of each testwiththefollowinginformation:
thepositionofeachcandidatebycandidatenumber
thedirectiontheyarefacing
thedistancebetweentheirdesks
thenumberandpositionofinvigilators.
ForListeningtests,alsoindicatethepositionofplaybackequipmentandspeakers,andanypillarsorother
featureswhichmightafectthesound.
Attendance registers
AttendanceregisterscanbeprintedfromtheYLEEntriesSysteminadvanceofatest,oryoucancreateyourown.
Completeandsigntheattendanceregisterbefore the end of each test.
Ifacandidateisnotontheattendanceregister,addtheirnameandcandidatenumberandtelltheCEMof
thisadditionassoonaspossible.Ifthereisnospaceavailableontheattendanceregister,attachanotewith
thecandidatesnameandcandidatenumber.YoumustalsomarkSpecialArrangementscandidatesonthe
attendanceregister.
Payparticularattentiontothespellingofcandidatesnamesonalldocumentstoensurethatnomistakesare
made.
Absent candidates
Markacandidatesabsenceontheattendanceregisterintheattendancecolumn.
Removetheabsentcandidatesmaterialsfromthedeskafterallowingenoughtimeforalatearrival.

Candidates who want to leave the room
During the Listening test, candidates must not leave the room at any time.
ForReading&Writing,acandidatecanleaveand
returntotheexamroomunder supervisionatany
time(exceptduringthenal10minutes).Theremust
beabefore-and-aftersearchoftoilets,etc.
Tellthecandidatetoturntheirquestionpaperand
answersheetfacedownontheirdesk.
Remindthecandidatethattheyarestillunderexam
conditionsduringthetimetheyareoutoftheexam
room.
Makesurethecandidateisescortedbyamember
ofstaf.Ifyouaretheonlyinvigilator,youmustask
anothermemberofstaftohelp,asyoumustnot
leavetheexamroom.
Makesurethecandidatedoesnotcommunicate
withanyonewhileoutsidetheroom.
Makesurethatthepapersremainuntoucheduntil
thecandidatereturnsandresumeswork.
IfacandidatehasnishedtheirReading&Writing
testandwantstoleavetheroom:
Checktherearemorethan10minutesremaining.
Tellthecandidatetheymuststayintheirseat.
Collectallquestionpapers,answersheetsand
roughwork.
Tellthecandidatetoleavetheroomquietly.
Youmustnotallowthecandidatetore-enterthe
roomuntiltheendofthepaper.
Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
Youareresponsibleforthesafetyandwelfareofchildrenandyoungpeopleduringtheexam.
Incidents
Malpractice
Submit a Malpractice form within 1 week of the exam day and, if relevant, submit a Special Consideration form as well.
Youmustreportanythingunusual,suchassuspiciousbehaviourofanycandidatesduringtheexam,totheCEM.
Some examples of malpractice:
talking
copying/collusion
usingunauthoriseditems,suchasdictionariesor
notes
usingelectronicitems
impersonation
disruptivebehaviour
notfollowingtheinstructionsofexamstaf
failingtoswitchofmobilephone,mobilephone
ringing,etc.
If you suspect malpractice or have clear evidence of
malpractice:
giveadiscreetbutclearwarningtothecandidate
thattheywillbereported
allowthecandidatetocompleteanyremaining
tests
reporttheincidentusingaMalpracticeform.
Reportsmustcontainspecicandcleardetails
donotaskcandidatestowritestatementsatthe
time
bewareoflocallawswhenyouareremoving
unauthorisedmaterials,forexamplenotesfroma
candidatespocket.
Youmustnotdisqualifycandidatesfromsubsequent
papers.However,inextremecircumstancesyoucan
excludeacandidatefromtheexamroomandfrom
takingtheexamifthecandidatescontinuedpresence
wouldcausedisruptiontoothercandidatesorcould
poseathreattohealthandsafety.
ThedecisiontodisqualifymustbelefttoCambridge
EnglishLanguageAssessment.
Late arrivals
Submit a Late Arrival form within 1 week of the exam day.
You must not allow late arrivals for Listening tests to enter once the test has started.
ForReading&Writingyoucanallowlatearrivalstoenter(withthesupervisorspermission)ifnoothercandidate
hasnishedthetestandlefttheroom.
Youmustreadthefullinstructionstothem(thiscanbedoneoutsideoftheexamroomiftheothercandidates
havealreadystartedthetest).Youmustallowthemthefulltimeofthetest.
Whenthetesthasnishedforeveryoneelse,markthepointreachedbythecandidateonthequestionpaper.

Takeparticularcareifquestionshavenotbeenansweredinsequence.
Ifacandidateislateforagoodreason(e.g.suddenillnessortransportproblems)andexamsecurityhasnot
beenthreatened,wewillacceptalltheworkcompletedbythecandidate.
Ifacandidateislatebecauseofcarelessness(e.g.oversleepingormisreadingthetimetable)andexamsecurity
hasnotbeenthreatened,wewillaccepttheworkcompletedwithinthenormalexamtimes.
Youcanrefusetoadmitlatearrivalsifthisisyourcentrespolicy.
Special Consideration
Submit a Special Consideration form within 1 week of the exam day.
Ifsomethinghappensthatyouthinkmayhaveafectedtheperformanceofthecandidates,completeaSpecial
Considerationformtoensurethatyourcandidatesarenotdisadvantaged.
SomeexamplesofacceptablereasonsforSpecialConsideration:
Acandidateisunwellduringtheexam.
ThereisaloudnoiseduringtheListeningtest.
ThereareproblemswiththeListeningtestequipment(inthiscasekeepplayingtheCD).
Thereisadelaythatmightdistressthecandidates.
Pleaseconsiderwhethertheissueafectsallthecandidatesintheroom,arangeofcandidatesinanarea,ora
singlecandidate.
Emergencies
Submit a Special Consideration form within 1 week of the exam day.
Ifthereisanemergency,suchasarealarmorbombalert,followtheinstructionsbelow:
Evacuatetheexamroomfollowingtheregulationsofthevenue.
Leavethequestionpapersandanswersheetsintheexamroom.
Supervisethecandidatesascloselyaspossibletomakesuretheydonttalktoeachotherorusemobile
phones/theinternet.
Aftercandidateshavereturnedtotheexamroomandbeforethepaperisresumed,markoneachcandidates
workwheretheinterruptionoccurred.
Notethetimeandlengthoftheinterruption.
Writethenewnishtimesontheboardandallowcandidatesthefullworkingtimeforthepaper.

IfduringthetesttheListeningequipmentortheCDfails,youshoulddothefollowing:

Sealthematerialsintheexamroom,eitherinascriptreturnenvelopeortemporaryA4envelope.Ifyouare
usingtemporaryenvelopes,putyoursignatureacrossthesealaftersealingthem.
PassanynamecorrectionstotheCEM,aswellasreportsforSpecialConsideration,MalpracticeandLate
Arrivals.

Speaking test
TheYLESpeakingtestisaface-to-faceinteractionbetweenoneSpeakingExaminer(SE)andonecandidate.The
only people allowed in the exam room during a Speaking test are SEs, candidates and Team Leaders (TLs can
be in the exam room for monitoring purposes).InspectorsdonotentertheexamroomduringaSpeakingtest.
TheywillchecktheSpeakingtestroombeforeorbetweentests.
For running a Speaking test, you will need:
Supervisor(inthewaitingarea)
Marshal(toescortcandidatesbetweenthewaitingareaandexamrooms.Youmayneedmorethanone.)
SEsoutsidetheUK:providedbythecentre;intheUK:providedbyCambridgeEnglishLanguageAssessment).
TheSEconductstheYLESpeakingtestandassessesthecandidatesperformance.

YourCEMwillgiveyouacopyofthetimetable;makesureyouhaveitwithyouduringallthesessionsasyou
mighthavetoshowittoanSEorInspector.
Speakingtestsessionsshouldbetimetabledtolastamaximumof2hours,andyoumustincludeabreakofat
least30minutesbetweensessions.Sessionsshouldstartontime.

Checkthewaitingareahasenoughchairs

theirSpeakingtestsomethingtooccupy
themduringthistimesothattheydonot
becomerestless,suchasaDVDorother
suitableactivity.
Thewaitingareamustbesupervisedat

Thiscanbeinthewaitingareaorinthe

EachSEwillneedaSpeakingpackandacopyofInstructions to Speaking Examiners.Examinersmustnotassess
candidatesunlesstheyhavebothofthese.YourCEMwillhaveorderedthemandwilleitherhavegiventhem
directlytotheSEs,orgiventhemtoyoutodistribute.IntheUK,theSEswillbringthesematerialswiththem.
YourCEMwillhaveinformedyouaboutarrangementsfortheSEs,forexamplerefreshmentsandcarparking.
CheckthecandidatenameswiththeSEsincasetheyknowanyofthecandidatespersonally,havetaughtthem
inthelast3yearsorexaminedthemintheprevioussixweeks.
CheckyouhaveenoughenvelopesforsealinganswersheetsandgivethemtoyourSEs.
ShowSEstothetestroom,andinformthemofanychangestothetimetable.
Checkthecandidatenameandnumberarecorrectontheanswersheet.

Submit a Malpractice form within 1 week of the exam day and, if relevant, a Special Consideration form.

Some examples of malpractice:
