AGRIMEC was founded

in 1979. At once
it made interesting
experiences in the
design and installation
of greenhouses
destined to flower
and vegetable-growing,
as in Italy like abroad,
under the guide
of Spelgatti family
administration.
The property
(8.000 m
2
) is located
in Casazza,
a small village at 70 km
from Milan, just in the
middle of a beautiful
valley, where for a long
time an industrial zone
is growing over and
over. The building
consists in several
sectors, destined
to management,
production, warehouse
and exposition.
1. The company
THE COMPANY
From the beginning
the company involved
its products, helped
by its team's
old experience,
technological
innovation (numerical
control machines) and
computer design
(drawing and FEM
static calculation).
After 30 years
AGRIMEC built a brand
today very well known
all around in Italy.
Agents and dealers
support AGRIMEC
staff in the sale of its
products offering to
the customers a full
assistance since the
first contact (quoting,
advising, financing,
designing) up to
after-sale supervision
(installation,
maintenance).
AGRIMEC usually
delivers its
greenhouses quickly
and cheaply in Italy
and abroad using the
service of professional
transport companies
good connected with
all European countries.
EQUIPMENTS AND TECNOLOGY
Equipments and tecnology 2.
AGRIMEC employs
qualified workers
for every kind
of installation.
The installation is one
of primary importance
aspects in the
purchase of one
greenhouse.
Only a special team
can install a such
structure help
by experience,
specific tools
and organization.
If requested by the
buyer AGRIMEC can
assume the direction
of the work and
provide greenhouses
and structures
in turnkey way.
TURNKEY INSTALLATIONS
3. Turnkey installations
In the last few years
design activity has
been dedicated to the
energy matter, very
importing question in
flower-growing market
too.
AGRIMEC offers its
experience in the
installation of
photovoltaic systems
integrated with its
greenhouses.
Since November 2006
a photovoltaic solar
system of 19,2 power
kW is operating at its
headquarter.
Its a pilot project
which is shown to the
customers as a model
to be followed, an
invitation to use new
energy forms for the
greenhouse
management.

AGRIMECs
greenhouses are built
with high-quality
European raw
materials and with
such technical details
to ensure bigger
efficiency and more
easy assembling.
These structures
assure a wide use
flexibility, a long
useful life with low
operating costs,
a competitive price
thanks to the adoption
of modular standard
solution, an high
structural resistance
according to technical
standards.
AGRIMEC produces
small and big
greenhouses thanks
to a full range of sizes
which satisfies every
demand.

flexibility/ modularity
7. Technical and structural characteristics
AGRIMEC
greenhouses are
designed and built
using the semicircle arc
as shape of the vault.
For several years
AGRIMEC tested
and kept till now
this configuration
on the base of the
following benefits:
- wind effect: lift
(vertical lifting) and
less transversal push
- less covering surface,
less heat dispersion
- more useful
height (H) at same
maximum height
- best film inflating
- less film deterioration
- good unloading of
snow at same time
Agrimec advises to
build the greenhouse
"when admitted" using
a square layout, the
layout that - at volume
equality - reduces to
the minimum the
dispersant surfaces.
Studies on greenhouses
(T. Foulard and H. Fatnassi,
INRA-Unit URIH (France),
New models help optimise
greenhouse design, in
FlowerTECH 2006, vol. 9/n.6)
have verified the
importance of the
height of a greenhouse
and, also in this case,
AGRIMEC models
satisfy the required
parameters at best.
These studies have
indeed shown that the
internal air temperature
decreases when the
height increases up to
4 meters and that after
such quote the
improvements become
not very significant as
the following diagram
shows.
Agrimec section profile:
semicircle arc vault

or double flap vault
DESIGN CRITERIA
Recommended optimum height (H)
between 3 and 4 m.
An high greenhouse is able to create
a fresher and more accessible site.
It requires just a little higher heating cost.
ATTENTION: too much height,
useless investment
Available height: from 2,35 up 4 m
Maximum width: up to 10,5 m
Length: free, thanks to modularity

Actions transmitted to the ground require
underground foundations built with
cement plinths. The anchorage system
is however practical and allows the total
disassembling thanks to these alternatives ways:
1) separation between pipe drowned
in the plinth and pillar or 2) use of a metal plate
fixed by screw anchors on the concrete base.
Executed
the excavation,
do a first concrete
underground layer
just to have
a datum plane.
At this point insert the anchorage
pipe in the excavation oriented
in the correct way. This pipe has
an hole at its base which can be
used to insert an iron rod,
so to be strongly linked to the plinth.
Complete filling the excavation
with the cement. At finished work,
the male end of the pipe - on which
the greenhouse pillar will be bolted
must emerge beyond
the countryside plan.

CONFORMITY
- European norm EN 13031-1 dated 01-11-2004
Greenhouses: Design and construction
One of the most important news of these rules
is the greenhouse classification based
on the following table:
Category Useful project life
15 years 10 years 5 years
Class A
Greenhouses covered
by rigid materials
which dont bear A15 A10 -
big deformations
under load
Class B
Greenhouses covered
by materials
- as plastic films -
B15 B10 B5
which can bear
big deformations
under load
The useful project life is the period during which
buildings, subject to the ordinary maintenance,
must be used for the purpose they are destined to.
Technical and structural characteristics 10.
What authorizations to build?
Authorisation is one of the core issues
on that depends the decision of customer to go
on in investing money in greenhouse installation.
For this reason AGRIMEC recommends its
own customers to inform themselves
on which local government organization has
the authority to give the permission to build
and which kind of authorization is requested.
AGRIMEC wants to specify that a greenhouse
is a construction very different from a civil
or industrial building. The most important
difference is due to the short useful life
of a greenhouse compared with the long life
of a building used for people-life or manufacturing
activity: these buildings are characterized
by high safety guarantee, high cost and long life.
A greenhouse contrary is a building designed
for short-term activities (from 5 up to 15 years);
it must give less insurance relate security
and resistance performace than civil
and industrial constructions.
Usually the process to obtain a such authorization
is linked with the followings aspects:
1) destination: flower or vegetable-growing (real
greenhouse) better than garaging (storage
rooms more similar to industrial building);
2) measurements: in Europe some municipality
is inclined to authorized when the top height
of the greenhouse doesnt exceed a quote,
usually 4 m;
3) anchorage: disassembling is a quality almost
always pretended; concrete foundations
sometimes are not admitted because
they contradict a such requirement.
AGRIMEC recommends to anchor the building
to the ground with solutions able to assure
the respect of the level of safety for what
the greenhouse is designed.

An high greenhouse requires a smaller number of
air replacements - comparing with a low
greenhouse - to obtain the same airing effect.

The front frame is very important
for the following reasons:
- it must be enough strong so to transfer
to the main structure all the actions coming
from outside, especially those one due
to strong wind;
- it must be covered by long life materials
since it's so easy to damage them beating
with tools or tractors;
- it's the site where doors and entrances
to the greenhouse are usually allocated;
these doors can be made of various types:
Sliding door system
- solution admitted for NM, HM and TN model
- elegant solution
- very ideal for pedestrian access and
for small transport motorvehicle access

thanks to the big airing obtained opening
the total front surface;
- pedestrian access very comfortable
thanks to the shutter door (1,45x2,3 m)
incorporated in the frame;
- entrance for tractor admitted (<2,35 m)
at same time;
- covering: only polyethylene film
Sliding tarpaulin
- solution admitted for NM and HM model;
- PVC tarpaulin supplied - on above site -
with trolleys that let sliding along suitable rail
and - at the bottom - with practical belts
to pull the tarpaulin when its shut;
- ideal solution if its requested a so much
wide access as the total greenhouse width
and an height more than 2,30 m at same time;
- in very high greenhouses it can become
very hard to slide the tarpaulin.
Coverings are a very important choice because
they represent the location where maintenance
costs are concentrated.
For these reasons they must be:
1. long life
2. efficient
3. resistant

European norm: EN 13206:2001
Film duration: it's determined following
the procedure described in the European norm
EN13206, exposing plastic film in suitable
machines equipped with specific lamps (those
lamps irradiate a radiation similar to solar type).
To determine film duration, the adopted criterion
only considers material degradation obtained
in laboratory through the quick artificial ageing
(Weather-o-meter or Wom).
The duration of a covering material is proportional
to the period of exposure to the artificial ageing
after which mechanical properties
are not considered as more sufficient.

for film fixing.
TOP COVERING
AGRIMEC recommends double film for the top
covering: two films separeted by air inflated
by small fan into the space between two films.
Benefits of double inflated film:
- significant energy saving (30-40%)
- best resistance against hail falling
- longer duration
- easy assembling
- optimal tension of film
