During my Pilgrimage to Guatemala with Grand Elder Don Alejandro Perez Oxlaj, I learned new meanings
behind the twenty days of the tzolkin, or as he correctly said, TZOL’QIJ.

First some new definitions and spellings:

Tzolqij – The Kakchikel Mayan word for the twenty day cycle called tzolkin in Yucatec Maya. Don Alejandro
says this is the Constitution of the Ancestors and is intended as a daily guide.

Aj’ki – A Mayan shaman who speaks of his own culture.

Long Count – 5200 year period that will end when the Earth passes through the Magnetic Axis of the
Universe. Sunlight cannot pass through when the Earth is in this Axis, this will cause a period of about 24 to
60 hours of darkness. When this period happens, otherwise known as the 3 days of Darkness, we will know
the real date of the calendar. Don Alejandro calls this Day Zero. To him it will be like December 31st, but I
get the feeling for most other human beings it will be a rather intense experience!

Here is the count of 20 days according to Don Alejandro Perez Oxlaj:

Oxlaj:

Imox – “The Hypnotist” Use this day’s energy to attract things to you that you lost or would like to
manifest. It is the day of healers, therapists, medics and midwives.

Iq – Lightning, Storms, The spirit of the air. This is the most important day of the tzol’qij. It is the day of
Telepathy and Lightning-in-the-Blood. Crying tears out of the left eye signifies female, the right eye for the
male.

Aqabal – This is the day of the future, of dreaming the future. It is the spirit of the water and foredawn.

Kat -- Entanglements. Use the energy of this day to release yourself from entanglements involving family
and friends. Solve misunderstandings before they begin to involve neighbors and the community. Don’t
make mountains of molehills.

Kan – The Feathered Serpent, Kulkukan, also known as Tepeo or Gugumatz. Tornadoes are serpents of
the air. At the time of Creation, Kulkukan took on four different forms. He spent 7 days as and eagle, 7
days as a serpent, 7 days as a lion and 7 days as blood. As an eagle he nourished all animals with feathers, as
a serpent he nourished all serpents, as a lion he nourished all four-legged animals and as blood he nourished
all living creatures. Use the energy of this day to be free of paralysis and other physical impediments and ask
for answers and success in your endeavors. (Note: this is the same spelling as the Yucatec word for the
previous day known as Lizard, or Net)

Keme – This is the day for communication between the dead with the living and the living to communicate
with the dead. This is the day of the four elements – sun, air, water (night) and the earth.

Kiej – This is the day for all four-legged animals and the four directions.

Qanil – Semen, the seed of humans, animals and fish.

Toj – To Pay, all wealth. Give thanks for all Creator’s gifts – your brain for science and telepathy, your ears
to hear good and bad, your eyes to see all the beauty of the Earth and the day and night, your nose to smell,
your mouth to speak and sing, the gift of expression, your hands to work and your feet to walk, for the man
and the woman and all beauty on Earth.

Tzi – Guardian. Authority should defend the territory and the people as a dog fights to save his owner.

Batz – Thread. The veins, nerves and bones are threads. The magnetic lines of the Earth, the umbilical
cord between mother and child, our clothes. Also, the 5200 years of the Long-count.

E – The day of Destiny.

Aj – The cross of authority between the laws of God and the laws of men.

Ix – Mother Earth gives water and nourishment. This is the day of all women and mothers.

Tzi’kin – A good day to ask for money for all your needs. If you have no money, ask that your basic needs
be fulfilled.

Ajmac – Reconciliation. Use this day’s energy to make up with whom you have disagreements. You may
need that person’s help some day!

Noj – Thought. The 6th and 7th senses, the third eye to see what is in front of us and what is behind us.

Tijax – Cut out the bad. Bad thoughts, incurable diseases or bad court cases. This is the day for invisible
surgery.

Kawuk – Family and Community, authorities, elders and teachers.

Aj’pu – Artists are workers and deserve to be paid well! This is a day of clarity, the Sun, and the Moon and
stars that illuminate the night.

We did not get to learn about the numbers 1-13 from Don Alejandro during this trip. He said that there
were 260 good days and 260 bad days and that it would take years to learn them all.
