PURPOSE CINEMACHNA aims to use student-created short videos 1) to promote knowledge and understanding of Chinese language and culture to the Ateneo de Manila University community 2) to encourage the use of the Chinese language to promote knowledge and understanding of the Philippines to Chinese-speaking audiences
PARTICIPANT GUIDELINES Participating groups should be composed of three (3) to five (5) students enrolled in any of the Chinese language classes offered during the First Semester of Academic Year 2012-2013.
ENTRY GUIDELINES There will be two categories: Music Video Category (for Basic 1 students)
Participants must interpret a Chinese pop song from a pre-selected list (for the complete list, visit the Chinese Studies Program) Participants may choose other songs not on the list or translate non-Chinese songs into Chinese subject to the approval of the Chinese Studies Program. The song must be sung by the participants themselves. No lip-synching of the original version is allowed. All members must have singing parts, but there is no limit to how much a member of the group may sing. Travel Documentary Category (for Basic 2 and up)
Participants must produce a travel documentary on a Philippine historical/scenic spot for the complete list, visit the Chinese Studies Program) Participants may choose other travel destinations in the Philippines subject to the approval of the Chinese Studies Program. Presenters must deliver the program entirely in Mandarin Chinese. Speaking parts by non-Mandarin speaking persons must be dubbed or subtitled in Chinese. Videos must be 5 minutes at most
Entries must be short videos dubbed in the Mandarin Chinese of the students and accompanied by English and Chinese subtitles. For music video entries, pinyin subtitles must also be included. Entries must begin and end with the official CinemaChina 2012 title screen (to be provided) Entries must be in AVI or MP4 format and must be optimized for upload to Youtube. Entries must have a title. Groups may consult anyone for advice and feedback on their entries prior to submission. Filming, audio recording, and editing, however, must be performed solely by the groups. Once an entry has been submitted, it may not be edited further. Entries containing profane and/or discriminatory elements will automatically be disqualified. Entries must not contain blooper reels. Any stock photos, music, footage, and/or animation to be used must be in the public domain. Otherwise, participants must own the copyrights or have the written permission from the copyright holders. The winning entries become the property of the Ricardo Leong Center for Chinese Studies and the Chinese Studies Program and may be distributed and used for their purposes. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES Each group must submit one (1) copy each of their entry on CD/DVD to the Chinese Studies Program (Room LH 200, 2/F, Leong Hall). The CD/DVD must be labeled with the class name and section, instructor, and list of group members. All entries must be in by 5:00 PM on September 14, 2012.
COMPETITION PROPER Entries shall be uploaded to Youtube under the official CinemaChina 2012 account and shall be available for public viewing. Winners will be announced during the CINEMACHNA Awards Night on September 28, 2012, 4:30-6:30 PM (Faura AVR)
