This essay is concerned with the issue of legalize illegal drugs as marijuana or heroine.

It is an
important issue and there are strong feelings on both sides of the argument. But in my opinion, I
will consider to legalize only of marijuana.
Firstly, most governments around the world have committed to spend more resources and
threaten the liberties of the citizens in a futile effort to stop the illegal drug trade. If drugs were
legalized in countries that have these problems as the case of Colombia and Mexico, the result
would be that the government would stop wasting millions of dollars on the war on drugs. These
resources would be earmarked to fight the real criminals: murderers, rapists, thieves or terrorists.
In addition, prison would not be filled by people whose only crime was use substances that are
prohibited by law. Also, reducing violence and number of dead in the fight against drug trafficking.
In a society where marijuana is legal, as is the case of Uruguay, people have four ways to access
marijuana. One is through the Ministry of Public Health for medical, domestic cultivation of up to
six plants, clubs similar to those found in Spain membership and license to sell to adults at
pharmacies. In this case, society learns to live with marijuana, as it has done with other substances
such as alcohol and the tobacco.
There are many positive effects of marijuana to our body. According to research sponsored by Yale
University concluded that smoking marijuana is not associated with the development of
emphysema and other diseases of this type that suffer by smokers of ordinary cigarettes. Also,
marijuana has health benefits; The American Association for Cancer Research has found the
marijuana actually works to slow down tumor growth in the lungs, breasts and brain considerably.
Based on utilitarianism according Mill tells us that the purpose of human action, especially
happiness that is achieved through this action, is linked to the performance of useful actions. And
to make it a moral act must calculate the consequences of the action, if the good outweighs the
bad, then it is moral. The legalization of marijuana has positive consequences, and supports the
principle of the greatest happiness because it is a useful moral act and it makes everyones happy.
To summarize, I feel that the legalization of marijuana is a problem that involves everyone. Many
governments spend money, time and lives to eradicate drug trafficking and not think about all the
benefits that legalization would bring.
